I remember you talking, Huub, several times about looking back at your life without the regret of having ignored it's value or having lived it the way you choose. I think it is built into your "hard drive" as well as Daniela's. Otherwise you both would not be working so hard on the mutual dream. The other 'blessing' is the gift of each other and having no regrets about giving all to one another. You're both remembering these things it appears. Stay safe both of you.
I just sanded my boat bottom down to gelcoat and it was days of agony. Now I am watching someone else face the same endless task lol. Cheers, stay positive 😂
I’m so thankful that I found you guys on TH-cam and I’ve been following you Huub about 6 months before you met Daniela. I see your faith in God and it blesses me to see you both living the dream together now. Keep up the faith in God and each other! It’s good to see how hard you both work to achieve your dreams. I feel like if I put half the effort your guys have in working on this dream of a better life on the seas, I could achieve some more of my dreams. You are both so incredibly inspiring! I will try to be a Finacial blessing to y’all as soon as possible! Because the value of your videos far exceeds watching movies and tv shows etc!
I know the scrapping and the soon to be sanding is hard and tedious, but you can take pride in all you do. I like when you say that you are going to do it right and make the dream boat. Just do not get in a hurry, even though you have done 3 episodes on the scrapping at least it is done right and with blood, sweat and tears. Just a few extra minutes on any project to do it right and make it look nice will be your PRIDE in the months ahead. Daniela, you have a wonderful girl, cherish her and support her. This is a time for both of you to grow together because you are doing this restore of your home, make it nice inside for her so she takes pride in it. Remember also that less is better. Amazing how you work on these boats. Saw you do the same on Limonada and now on this one. Mr Miyagi would have great respect for you. 😎👍
For all my years in boat building and knowledge, I can not get bottom paint on me. I'm very reactive to it. I would strongly suggest repairing the cracks from the inside of the boat before aggressively moving in and making HOME out of the boat. From what I have seen so far. There are some extensive levels of repair you will have to deal with to fix the structure of the boat.
I like that cat , nothing too extreme either on the fast or cruising side , the saldrives are protected and so are the rudders by the skeg . They did not try to cram too much into the interior either . Looks to be pretty decent . Not sure of the build quality but I am sure we will find out as you dig into the repairs of the keel. Going to need more opening windows , but that will come later .
Huub can you get someone to sponsor you with a Bluetti Solar generator like the ones being used by Mark on " Wildlings" channel on TH-cam? They have extra batteries that stack for extra power. You could really use that now. 💖😊⛵🐬🐕 S/V Cork~Texas 🇺🇸
Hi Huub and Daniela. Down here in Nz, we were able to get an antifoul softener. Like an acid. It softened the antifoul, so that we could remove it easily. Sorry I can't remember the product brand name, but it was great. Obviously we had to wear protective gear. Surely the local yacht chandlery will stock something.? Looking forward to the day you sail away. Thank you for sharing. Atb.
Huub & Daniella: Wow, your taking care of the bottom in record time. I'm wondering, where are you heading to after the refit? Who designed and built this catamaran? Thanks again, excellent amount of labor in this episode!
Great videos! Only thing I’m worried about is both are not wearing some kind of respirator while sanding/scraping the bottom of that catamaran….heavy metals in that bottom paint that you may be breathing in! Please be cautious and careful because we all care about you! Safeward and onward!!!
They make products to brighten gel coat which takes off the yellow and turns it back to white. Teak Bright is a power that you mix with water and does an excellent job.
You should have kept the crab. They dont eat much, never need exercise and would have been great company on your travels. It could have had it's own blog !
Thx for the video , dunno why your using scrapers , maybe no electricity ? you could take that down to gelcoat in a day easy with 40 grit an move on , Wonderful effort though 🙂
Using a hooked paint scraper? Sharpen the blade with a file, cut straight across the edge to turn up a burr. Sharpen with a few strokes every 10 minutes or so. You’ll be amazed how long a blade lasts, and how effective it is when sharp. I scraped my entire 28’ Islander with one blade.
repairing the keel is a big job as it is structural and they set the entire weight of the boat on it . I am sure you will do fine with it but remove all the interior where it is , grind it all back and glass it back in stronger than it was . Oh and make certain it is square to the boat and other keel
