    Motorbike looking inlet ports... good sign. For the record that’s the first time I’ve seen a 5 valve TT port... My first job was in a motorcycle shop when I was 13.. Yz80 in for a freshen up.... scored a job... Sweeping dust every Saturday morning for three hours($30) as they were one ring pistons.😂 limited life time lessons😐.

  • @stevesloan6775
    @stevesloan6775 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Foook I’m around head porting every day, but all the ports are max four valves. The five valve look like a different volume/shape. 5 valve ports have a better shape for airspeed and cushioning effects. Throwing clay around a corner isn’t easy. 🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀🍀🍀😎🤓

    Hi mate, awesome build and very informative.
    My only question is where have you purchased the timing belt from?
    I’m building a T4 with a Audi AAN 2.5 20 valve turbo 5 pot and given the amount of work that I’m putting into the engine I desperately need to ensure that I have a good quality belt to go with the rest of custom parts.

    • @SpeedingTube

    The steep angle of turbo doesn't cause problems with the bearings? 🤔🤔
    As an engineer I prefer that the shaft of the turbo has to be kept parallel to the crankshaft so the bearings can handle the strain of road and engine vibrations etc. better.
    In OEM installations this is also the rule (in general).

      @SpeedingTube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would prefer to have the turbo and crank axials parallel but for getting it in and running for a few years its fine. The issue I had was that until I had the engine and box on the custom mounts I didn't know what options I'd have. Now everything is in I think it's possible to use the Gravituned top mount manifold so this will likely be a swap in future.

      20VT are good engines but need a lot of money to make decent power. Plus 250bhp+ per litre is always going to reduce longevity. You'll need Pro Race rods and CP/JE etc stroker pistons. 1.8T crank is 86.4mm stroke, TFSi/FSi cranks have a 92.8mm stroke, therefore the pistons need to be 6.4mm shorter at TDC to keep things equal 😎👍

      MFnDahk show me a car that does 10k rpm at 80 mph. That’s ridiculous. This wagon of mine is completely stock and at 140 I’m doing maybe 5k. Still has plenty of boost, gearing, and rpm to make it to 158 and I’ll still have more room to rev the motor. This stock 1.8t has 240,000 miles still the original pistons and rods after a timing belt broke and I rebuilt the head because it bent all 20 valves, it has 40,000 miles since then and it still revs through every gear and can see over 120 on a daily. Changing oil regularly goes a looong way. Still has full compression, no boost leaks, she’s as tight as she can get for being 15 yo and 240k miles.

      Wow, totally missed that in the video, looked like it didnt have one. Those arp bolts are a god send, I have broke 2 brand new stock crank bolts, one time it cost me about 100x the cost of the arp bolt. Upon inspection Both OEM vw crank bolts had hairline cracks from the factory running halfway threw the bolt, right where the shaft meets the flange, with rust expanding the crack, and then it sheared the rest of the way threw, with a clean break. One bolt was only on the car for 2 weeks, so it did not crack, and then rust in 2 weeks, but just in case i now silicone the back of the bolt head where it meets the pulley to ensure no water gets behind it. With a 200hp 2.2 liter NA aba stroker, i should not be breaking crank bolts, lol

    Is the FSI crank forged as well?

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont think so, its cast and heavier. People still use them for upto 500bhp I believe.

    • @anthonycollingridge970
      @anthonycollingridge970 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      speedingtube Thanks and thought that might be the case as the moulding lines are much smaller on the FSI crank which you get from casting, versus the larger mould line you get from the forged process. Still good to know it’s ok to 500bhp as I’m only looking for a nice stable 400 figure for my TT build.

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonycollingridge970 Ideal, the FSI crank with some stroker pistons will add some torque. Make sure you use ARP bolts for the caps. Matt at Umbrella has lots of engine specs
