Good to see original headlights back on the van, looks a lot better than with the other ones, you made the right decision. Looking forward to the next part, your attention to detail really does set this project apart from others I have seen, it is a joy to watch it all coming together.
Hi bud really nice to see it again bean waiting for updates coming together now more videos please keep up the great work really interesting to watch bud
Thanks bud, I've already been following you guys! I saw the DVLA vid as I'm trying to re-register from PLG and I also saw the rear seat install a few weeks back. I am installing a "quick release" double seat in the back for the child seat for my son and after watching your video I'm going to use removable captive plates underneath to ensure a good spread under the floor to give the same effect as the C section in the kit you guys used! :-)
speedingtube. Look forward to seeing the updates fella, will you be building a splitter and a flat floor to a diffuser out back? Gotta be a smart move on a vehicle of its shape. Reassuringly it seems as if your already thinking about airflow management 👌
@@edh7492 I'm going to make a full kevlar undertray. The VWDRC rules state I need a tray to catch oil etc if I have a leak. I'm going to use 10mm foam and laminate a full 3 piece undertray. One for the front as a splitter backwards with a 1" lip around the sump with ducting for the brakes. Then a middle and rear undertray. Nothing fancy, just laminated 10mm foam with reinforcement in the areas where it bolts through. I wont be going for crazy aero vacuum, I just want to make the underside smooth to reduce drag at high speeds
speedingtube excellent work, m80 foam is the stuff, and a couple naca ducts in the splitter for the brake ducts. And yes, reducing drag and lift, cleaning up the separation at the back when paired with a correctly designed roof spoiler. Making it more slippery will seriously help your cause... You’re on it bud.
Instead of joining the wires together and soldering it like that, you should try those see through little shrink wrap pieces that have a small ring of solder in the middle. All you have to do is get a heatgun on it for a moment and it's soldered and secured, also seethrough so you can see if it failed. They're cheap too, £7 for like a set of a 100 which includes different sizes, and that was on banggood.
i used one of those tsw electric powersteering pumps off ebay, it was easy to plumb in and wire up. i couldnt be arsed with a belt driven pump when i fitted the AHU
The electric pumps are popular bit I just wanted to simplify everything. Back to basics. The rack doesnt feel that heavy, its geared more being non PAS 😎👍
Cheers bud, I will keep an eye out for any odd brake effects. I can always switch upto some proper 10mm ID hose rather than the vac style hose I have. Cheers for the heads up 😎👍
Thanks bud, sure jump in next time I'm up at Dakota or if you come down to Perran 😎👍 I've gone all out on silicone hose this time to avoid a repeat of last time 😂😂😂
Great video as usual bud, bit worried about that silicone as a vac line, it'll collapse way too easy. Other than that, great. Wish my 02Q 6 speed was as easy to fit as your 02M, I'm running a five pot T4 and with the cam belt cover tight on the chassis rail it pushes the gearbox too far over into the subframe, even with the thinnest 15mm adaptor plate I could get away with. Yep I've tried an 02M as well and that still hits. What selector cables have you used, did you make a new bracket to send them off the gearbox at a better angle? Cheers and best luck with the build. Where will you run it this year?
Its quite stiff but you are the 2nd person to mention it so I might just order some 10mm ID 3 ply silicone hose to rule it out, especially as peak vac on overrrun is when I'll most likely be using brakes! ha. That's awesome you have the 02Q dropped in. I am designing an adapter next for the R32 block (same bellhousing as the 5 pot T4) and yes things measure up very tight when I had a rough measure up. The V box 02Q bellhousing is +6mm over the 02M and the starter ring gear is +3.5mm over the 02M. Did you try and fit without an adapter as the V boxes are 15 deg ish rather than 30 deg tilt as with the 4 pot- 02B setup. I was going to see if one could be tilted slightly and allign with a transfer box blanking plate. The VWDRC guys give the VR engines a pasting and they take so much abuse!
I have made a small prototype selector box to bolt under the floor but it needs a few tweaks. I am going to get a custom drop in solution made using the original square 120x120mm hole in the floor. If you need to get your push-pull cables shortened give Cable Tec a shout. Costs £70 with fittings etc. I will be uploading a video soon with the prototype and changes I'm making. Hope this helps :-)
@1:26 Next scene: van on fire EDIT: No PAS? You might rue that choice with big tyres and daily duties...you can always use an electric PAS pump or a pure electric column if you're worried about parasitic loss, with 500bhp I doubt it's going to be much of an issue 😄
Ha I want a stripped back and simplified T4, comfort and drivability isn't on my list 😂 If I save myself just 0.1hp, it will be worth all the extra hassle in my mind! Plus my PAS belt squeaked once, now it's gone forever 😂
@@SpeedingTube Fair enough! I'm actually looking at how to put PAS back on to my LS swapped MX-5 which has a depowered-PAS rack at the moment which at low speed is terrible, and I'm only running a (sticky) 205 tyre. For the record, I don't have girly arms....😅 Love the T4 content, I would like to have a 20v swapped T4 at some point to replace my dearly missed Mk7 Transit 😔
@@spazda_mx5 Ha, the T4 is good fun. Depowered PAS racks never work as well as a manual rack. The gearing on the manual rack makes it easier although 265 tyres are going to be sticky...how hard can it be! haha

I hope so, I have some uprated torsion bars now. I just need a 27mm front ARB and 28mm rear ARB. Without those taking it on track will be a nightmare! I may just park it up and have a look around. Will you still have the Metro, very keen to see what it's like on track. I want your car so bad! 🔥🔥🤩

Hello, I was going to wing it with mine and weld some big lumps of angle to the chassis legs and bolt the original 1.8t mounts to them but after seeing them mount plates i feel like thats going to be a better plan, do they still have the design for them? Also i was going to wing it with the gearbox and driveshaft angle but as you probably guessed by now, your changing my mind on that too, wheres your adapter plate from? To be fair though i dont have the money to spend on stuff so ill probably try making one myself, does it need a custom flywheel ( sorry if you've gone over all this in other vids, i just re watched a few and couldn't find anything ) i probably have loads of over questions but ill leave it at that for now. Oh love the van btw, so much infact i bought one 😂😂
Hey dude. The common 1.8T swap uses a piece of angle iron on the chassis rail and bolts unto the 02B using a G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch. The mounts, adapter, flywheel, shaft etc are all to my spec as I eventually plan to sell a complete drop in kit. The mounts I have are just prototypes, the final ones will be billet alloy for longevity. My best advice for info is to join the "T420" page on Facebook (T4 20v). There are some great guru's on there! Cheers, Tom
@@SpeedingTube Yeah i know all about the O2B conversion, the problem i have is my van used to be an auto before it got stripped so unfortunately it has nothing to make that conversion easy. Have you figured out how to shorten the throw for the gear linkage?
@@AshRobinson94 Hi bud, there are loads of options. I've made a prototype underfloor shifter using a mk5 Golf selector. There are a few tweaks I need to make. Will be until I have the Monster or SQS gearset fitted as going much higher strips the teeth on the 4th gear on the 02M. I'd like 600bhp but I will need to get billet caps and girdle before I go that far so 500bhp with torque capped at 400lb/ft for reliability is more sensible at the moment until the gearbox and block can take more
@@SpeedingTube there is no way in hell a 1.8t will produce that reliably, race tuned engines especially relative small cc just don't last when used in a domestic type environment and worse in a brick shaped lardy van.
@@roberttaylor465 Haha. 500 is pretty conservative for my engine spec. It will almost certainly wear out faster but catastrophic failure is more for the guys pushing 600bhp+ without caps/girdle.
