Gibson SS Header Versus Stock FORD 5.4L 2V Cast Iron Exhaust Manifold

  • I take measurements of the two exhaust systems, Gibson SS Headers and FORD Factory 5.4 Liter 2 Valve exhaust manifolds. While the factory cast iron manifolds have the largest port opening, they immediately shrink down to 2/3rds their starting size. Meanwhile, the Gibson SS GP126S-1 Short tube headers maintain an opening size of about 1.40 inches the whole way through for each cylinder exhaust tube. The Gibson Collector is also about .10" larger diameter over the Ford Manifolds. All in all, After examining the Gibson headers and making my measurements, I'm much happier with them now than I was a few days ago. I think If I could do it over, I would purchase the Headman (304 SS) 14 gauge 1-5/8 tube headers. Better grade Stainless, heavier gauge tubing, Larger diameter Tubing. A winner in all measures over the Gibson. The problem was a two + month wait into the middle of October. I am still satisfied with the Gibson headers. It's a mostly stock engine so it isn't going to be cranking out a ton of power and needing drastic exhaust flow capabilities. I hope you find this video interesting and useful to you. @paulhunter546 I'm highly curious to see it done and back together too, but there are so many steps involved. I started removing the AC system today, finish cleaning and blowing out tomorrow that system tomorrow. Then I'll be able to start putting heads on. Need to sand 200 then 300 grit on the block and head surfaces. Maybe by the end of this weekend.
