They get to pick the branch of the military as well. Xiumin chose regular duty soldier in the Army. He was the top sharpshooter in his battalion. He achieved the rank of Sergeant before his discharge. Xiumin was assigned as a guard at the DMZ, the area that separates North and South Korea. As far as his weight a little history. He was given negative comments from fans about his weight and as a result did extreme dieting. As I recall from what I read there were also negative comments about his singing. He was sensitive about his weight as he was actually heavy as a child. He says he lost weight prior to becoming part of EXO because he loved playing soccer. I believe that’s in both Xiumin guides. Also Xiumin joining SM was sort of an accident. A friend was auditioning and asked him to come along for moral support. Someone at the audition suggested that since he was there why not audition which he did. As fate would have it he was selected sadly his friend was not.

You really need to see both the Korean and Mandarin versions of EXO's "Heart Attack" Live. Because it's different than any live performance you have ever seen. When EXO performed "Heart Attack" live they filmed a one take backstage live performance that gives fans a glimpse of what it's like backstage at an EXO concert. "Heart Attack" Live is one of my favorite performances. And at every concert they filmed a new performance, so everytime EXO performed "Heart Attack" the behind the scenes footage is different. Xiumin is my ultimate bias, so I can say that yeah, back then he was a skinny little thing but he lost a *lot* of weight round about this time - dangerously so. He was dieting, harshly and not healthily.
He was fat as a child and when he debuted he was known as the "fat" member of EXO, he was very insecure, it took him a couple of years to get comfortable with himself and find a healthy balance.
2015 Xiumin was... well, all those shirtless concert images speak for themselves! 😄😍
As for the military well, in training he ranked no. 1 in the shooting competition and first place in the 1500km meter middle-distance unit, he was also an assistant instructor. He was stationed in the DMZ (DMZ stands for Demilitarized Zone, where there's strict guarding to ensure that nobody will illegally trespass from South to North Korea and vice-versa) - which is considered to be "one of the scariest places on Earth", only very elite soldiers get stationed there. He also has a black belt in Taekwondo as well as knows Kendo and fencing.

Kai was skinny too back then..evrybody were..they were jst starting..+ they dnt get eat healthy really..tgings were diff to how they r trained frm back then to now...exo said it theselves..baek evn compared to how things r easier for d new grps now lyk nct..haha..& frm what I observe, physically, rookie grps frm their 1st yrs frm around exo debut backwards r a lot skinnelier than grps debuting aftr..lyk nct..they looked malnourished back then..u gotta see exo's visit in a variety show in 2019 (forgot d titoe..pls help exo-ls) were they revealed their concerns about sm entrnltainment..u'll undrstnd.. In EXO's debut Xiumin was fat, so he was receiving a lot of criticism and bullying by Koreans ... so he went on a thogh diet and lost a lot of weight, even he was suffering at the time, as for Sehun, the company does not give him many part to sing, But now we can hear his beautiful voice with SC album
