Ive got small terra-cotta plant pots in my tank, I like the different sizes, mixes things up a little in my community tank, tbh I wasn’t all that gung-ho about it at first just got one, but it sold me when I seen fish actually using it as a hiding place, now I have a selection of pot sizes
Nice idea! One of the reasons I find this Channel appealing is the mix of information and common sense information the average person can comprehend. I may never have had those species of fish, but I can understand saving money. 🙂 Thanks again, Jim
My background for my super red Bristlenose tank is literally a wall of these put together with some silicone. I have pulled several hundreds of plecos from this tank. If you are concerned about it's appearance, you can also attach moss or place tall plants such as Vallisneria in front of the caves to block them from view. Overall, these caves are great!
Been using these for a few years now after stumbling across them while just scrolling through Ebay searching for terracotta stuff i could use in a fish tank , they work really well and ive had great success with breeding bristlenose using them , however i do find they can be a bit on the small side for some of my larger pairs and on a few occasions the males have thrown the eggs out of the cave , Another thing i found that works great for larger fish are terracotta wine rack pieces , they can come in single tubes or up to 3 cylinders stuck together and like the water spike they have flat sides so dont roll around the tank to much
We just went to our local landscape company/ nursery and got some bigger river rocks and stacked 3 up in a triangle for our blue crawfish. Spent maybe 10 bucks for 10 big rocks. We also got 2 small bags of rocks from Wal-Mart and glued them together to make 2 different caves. Our plecos find all kinds of places to hide out in their tank. The crawfish end up digging under the rocks and tryin to make their own caves. I have a video of our tanks on my channel, nothing fancy
Stacked up a bunch of the water spikes and a lot of my Pleco’s go to the back into the space between the points ( picture three in a pyramid) . Wondering if you have seen this? Have a great day Professor. Got the notification and started already twenty nine viewers congrats.
My Kribensis have spawned twice, successfully, in one of those water stakes. I have started encouraging moss to grow on top of them, so Pleco fry have a food source right out of the cave when I start breeding them.
Stacked bricks. Cuz mine a large pond. And real plants. I use some pvc pipes too underneath my floating water lettuce and water hyacinth. Again I can’t see the pvc pipes since they’re underneath floating plants and my set up is a large pond
I like it great idea, I'm going to set up a breeding tank up for long finned bristle nosed plecs so I will definitely be looking for some of them! Stay safe and look after yourselves 🐡🐟👍
I ordered 50 half coconut shells from reptile supply co (works out to 60 cents each or so). Drilled them for my apistos and kribs. My bristlnose decided they where better the clay caves and spawn in there now too.
Hobby Lobby sells some great terra cotta stuff that isn't in the shape of traditional flower pots! I use one that's a large long tube for both my blood parrot and my CA cichlid tank :)
This is what I have in my bristle nose tank; hopefully they will breed at some point. Most still have some growing up to do before they are mature enough.
Have you tried to coat one of those in sealant/caulk and rolling it in substrate? Someone told me to try that so the pvc or terracotta looks a little more natural. If so, how'd it look when you were done?
Hi! Do you think these would be big enough for a yellow labidochromis? I think I have a male and female. There is a bit of chasing going on. I could always build a cave from the extra petrified wood I snagged at Lowes but this looks a bit more solid. Thanks!
I went to the dollar store and got some $1 round glass vase for my fish tank and axolotl tank and they loved it, but I felt like the closed cave prevent water circulation, lot of waste get trap inside and made the water very cloudy eventually. Wouldn't what you recommend cause that problem?
Fish can use their tail fins to remove any waste (thinking more like plecos) that accumulates. When I pick up the caves to move them or remove them from the tank I don't usually see a lot of waste.
Hey I always wanted to ask you a question? Always watching ur videos and love then. Would u sell and ship I will pay for all, looking for the multi shell dwellers can’t find them anywhere I live. Been looking for 4 months
Hey Andrew, I don't ship fish. However, if you are looking for fish I would take a look at The Wet Spot. They are experts at shipping fish and have a crazy huge selection! Thanks for watching.
Could you send me a picture of a couple of your Oscars especially the tiger one and let me know approximately how much they are peach I'm interested in buying today sometime maybe
Has anyone ever tried brushing glue onto a plastic or terracotta pot and rolling it in sand? Same sand as tank substrate, basically creating a subtle cave which can be partially buried 🤔
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks for the response. So far it's been a week and nothing has came off of them. I was thinking maybe the black paint on the shot glass might gradually leak into the water.

I use those. To hide them, I silicone whatever substrate is in the tank to the outside. Or small rocks could be used.
Great idea!
I can always count on this channel to save me some money, very good tip. Thanks
Thank you!
Ahhh! I love this man and his majestic beard! Thanks always quality content.
And the beard is always quality as well!😎
Why thank you! :-)
i just spent $50 on caves yesterday *facepalm* but my puffer will love these cave ideas! thanks jason!
Thanks for watching!
I just started my superred breeding project and this video got in right on time lol Thank you!
Awesome! Good luck!
Getting so many good ideas from this channel 🤓
Good to hear!
whats good for a hiding spot for a 10 inch goldfish til i can get him a bigger tank? he's in a 75 gallon
Always informative videos with a positive tone. Thanks, Jason...😊

Ya, that used to happen to me when I stacked them as well. They just go wherever they feel comfortable. :-)
1:12 brilliant!! So simple.
I use them and have had great success. I’m on my 6th generation of Bristlenose plecos.
My Kribensis have spawned twice, successfully, in one of those water stakes. I have started encouraging moss to grow on top of them, so Pleco fry have a food source right out of the cave when I start breeding them.

You too! They will love the caves.
I’ve made my own caves out of leftover pvc, some black paint for inside to disguise it and then siliconing rocks to the outside
can you do a vid on breeding plecos or betta? That would be helpful for people like me. Love ur vids!

Any options for bigger fish like blood parrots or big cichlids? Probably will get some terra cotta pots
My bloods lay of there sides under stuff even when I put caves in- also the caves become defended spots and tend to make mine more aggressive YMMV.
Ya, terracotta pots are good options.
Hobby Lobby sells some great terra cotta stuff that isn't in the shape of traditional flower pots! I use one that's a large long tube for both my blood parrot and my CA cichlid tank :)

Glad they are working for you too!

I've thought about it. :-)
Clay pots with java moss look good
Another great tip and idea.. I wondered what those things were... I knew they look familiar 🤔🤣🤣🤣
Haha - ya, they work great. :-)
Do you have any videos on saving money on driftwood?
No, but they are coming. :-)
Another great video
Thank you!
Do a video about how/why/when to clean the substrate in our tank please
I will add it to the list!

They would be too small. For them the terracotta pots would work better for caves.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks for the quick reply!

can I use a plastic cup witha rock in it to keep It from floating?
Not sure if the plastic cups are aquarium safe long term?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I see - I will stay cautious and find another option.
Question my caves are black in colour there in my tank for two days now and my two pleco males are not looking interested in them. Please advise
I don't think it is the color. They may warm up to them in time.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks so much Sir
cool tnx
Good tip. I wonder if Cory cats may like it...any idea?
I have seen mine hide out in them occasionally, but not to the extent other fish do.

Ok sounds good will look into that. And ty very much for the response. Keep on fish keeping always watching every video u release
how about a good place for cheaper drift wood?
Oh that's coming too. :-)
Could you send me a picture of a couple of your Oscars especially the tiger one and let me know approximately how much they are peach I'm interested in buying today sometime maybe
They have such great personalities I can't wait to get another one
We actually don't sell fish (except for local swaps and auctions).
Nice
Has anyone ever tried brushing glue onto a plastic or terracotta pot and rolling it in sand?
Same sand as tank substrate, basically creating a subtle cave which can be partially buried 🤔
Usually that works best with a thin layer of aquarium safe silicone.

LMAO yes, how to get the cheapest mini home brew kit, fridge-in-the-chair seat and an el-cheapo hi-def flatscreen TV LOL...
I like your rabbit video, cute.
Thanks...
Would black shot glasses be ok in the aquarium?
I would think so as long as there is nothing that comes off of them in the water over time?
