      I'm curious if Manhwa gets a pass here. I purchased a 9 volume collection that was split into groups of three, all ordered from right to left. It's the original Korean and the only manhwa I own. Not sure if this is consistent with all collections or unique to this one series.

    Scalpers can rot in hell, honestly, our community doesn't need that on top of shortages and covid related stuff on top of out of print and stretched out reprints, it drives me crazy that I have to be on my game for every release where 4 or 5 years ago I felt no worry what so ever, like it was more like there were too many printings back then.

    sadly i am one of the people who wrap their mangas in plastic, but the manga in Mexico although it is cheap also brings many quality problems most of the time causing it to turn yellow too quickly, so the best way to maintain a manga in good condition is leaving them in that plastic that in fact they sell it to you from the store, but I totally agree that it is a kick in the butt that when you want to read one of your manga you have to go through removing the plastic first xD

    So, I agree with everything you say! Here in Mexico every single volume is plastic wrapped, and the manga stores even sell you plastic bags if you want to rewrap your manga. I personally don't like it, since, as you say, it's annoying to have to take it out every single time i want to check out any volumes (plus, imo, it makes you want to interact less and less with your collection, since everything is wrapped, you won't want to ruin the bag).
    People here do it mostly about the yellowing, but also for the "new" smell to stay and because it's less probably that it'll get messed up by moisture. Over here is easier to have it wrapped than it not since when you buy it it's already like that, but i do understand why it's weird over there since you'll have to go out of your way to always wrap it up.

    • @kaywonix
      @kaywonix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      exactly! but i go to a specific store where they ask if you want the books wrapped, i always say yes just so i can have it wrapped for now before i read it, after i read it i just save the plastic bag somewhere just in-case and just put it on my shelf

    • @elenawestley8224
      @elenawestley8224 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can't speak for all. But for the wrapped collections I've seen, you can still look through the pages. It's only the cover that's really wrapped, kinda like a dust jacket. I only really like it to prevent scratching and stuff

    • @air2data
      @air2data 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don’t mind wrapping my manga collection. Other than preventing brown pages, I usually don’t touch a manga I finished for a long time, so I don’t really have any issues with interactivity, also I like to take a book or 2 when I go out and I’d like to minimize as much damage as possible when carrying it in a bag or leaving it on a table. But that’s just me

    • @Reanimator999

      Kinokuniya bookstore in the US wraps their manga in shrink wraps to prevent "manga cows" from reading every single volume without buying. Also it prevents wear & tear, dirt, and oil from grubby hands. LOL
      It's better to use book cover so that you can read the book while keep it pristine.

      the wrapping actually makes sense when you live in a country where the humidity would destroy anything, like Vietnam. I have some manga a while ago and since I didn't know how to preserve them, they didn't turn only yellow but they turned moldy, not to mention the mites

  • @niniimuka

    I plastic wrap my manga, and Idk I've found bags that wrap the average Viz volume very nicely. It isn't even that noticeable when on the shelves. Unless the volumes have a different form factor (Berserk deluxe or even Box Sets), I prefer bagging those I can. It eases my mind, and I prefer them that way considering I regularly have dust and cat hair in my house.

When I get tired of it, I still can sell it as used in good condition and book cover helps.

    Been collecting for 20 years and bagging your manga is a necessity. Yellowing pages is not the problem it's the wee blotches on the pages that must be stopped, it interferes with artwork and word bubbles and can ruin the book. Wish I had known that could happen 20 years ago but none if my new books will ever be ruined by blotches from cheap paper.

    I totally agree with the plastic wrapping. I don't wrap my individual manga in plastic either, for the reasons you explained. The yellowing on the other hand can get annoying, especially when a manga turns dark yellow and starts to smell like old books do. I have some japanese manga from the early 80s which are pretty yellow and there's no way to replace them physically because they have been oop since decades.

    Eh? You don’t read Japanese right to left. It’s either up to down or left to right.

    3:23 We do that but trying to make the plastic fit perfectly with the manga, that way it doesn't look so bad, plus it protects it from dust, sunlight, insects, etc.

    the plastic bags is actually insane. and like do they take them out everytime they wanna read them or check something out?
    I do put a protective plastic cover on my Manga but it's more like a sleeve to make sure I don't ruin the covers bc I always end up ruining them if I don't. it's almost a talent.
    my parents did the same for my school workbooks for the same reasons.
    They're like perfect fit and don't affect the actual pages so if you're looking into stopping them from yellowing this wouldn't be a solution I just didn't think anyone would have an issue with the yellowing.
    People protecting their manga from time while I need to worry abt protecting them from myself 💀
    my first two volumes of bsd I didn't protect
    And the first has huge scratches that took half the art while the second its original cover is holding on with tape and missing a whole chunk.

    Anyone who actually pays resell manga that’s still being printed is actually insane because you could literally just read it online.

    in my personal experience your 2nd take is very, very wrong, i indivisually bag all my manga i have smaller bags and bigger bags to fit standard size volumes in, and larger 2 in 1 & 3 in 1 volumes, unfortunately there are some series i just cannot bag, for example, vagabond vizbig 3 in 1's i couldnt store them in manga bags as they were slightly too thick, well when i was moving and had all my books in boxes getting them between houses and the cars and storage units, a bird decides to fly over and take a shit right ontop of my vizbig vagabonds, one of my only series not bagged....... if it landed on nearly any other series, it would have been bagged and eaisily replaceable, now i have bird shit stains ontop of the pages of my vagabond, so i reccommend everyone finds bags for all there entire manga collection, and they dont keep moisture iun, they keep moisture out....... and preotect them form dust and yellowing and such, long story short BUY MANGA BAGS THEY ARE WORTH IT, YOUR BOOKS WILL STAY IN BETTER CONDITION AND AVOID ANY ACCIDENTS LIKE MINE.
