I could seriously just websling around the city for hours. This game is so good. The graphics and animation are beautiful, the characters and story are great, and the controls are so smooth.
At the end of the game, when you’re fighting the symbiotes I could’ve sworn that when defeated they sounded like the Chimera from Resistance. Even if it’s coincidental I like to think it’s Insomniac giving a slight nod to one of their franchises.
Venom didn’t have enough screen time.I think they might’ve removed a couple of encounters with him because the concept arts and the trailer for Spider-Man 2 made it seem like you were going to have a boss fight in the middle of the streets with cars being thrown everywhere.tony todd even said that we’d have a chase scene similar to rhino’s in miles morales.
@@BlueCheeseLucci well they’re either lying or what they said was going to happen was cut.and the former is highly unlikely unless tony Todd was a jerk who wanted to overhype fans for no reason I just don’t see any other logical explanation.
Ngl the mj mission were not that big of a deal in this game you can just kinda rush through them really fast so they take up like 1% of my combined playtime so I did not mind them that much
Personally, I couldn't take Venom seriously once the third act kicked in. His whole "heal the world" shtick is tiresome and cliché. Was it so hard to just have the classic Spider-Man vs Venom showdown instead of throwing everything at a wall and seeing what stuck?
ngl, I actually lowkey thought Venom was dragging down a stellar Kraven story, should have kept the black suit and done Venom later. Mind you, if we didn't get this rushed mess we would have missed out on the late and great Tony Todd's perfomance. the games pretty mid imo
Biggest criticism is that the story just tries to fit in too god damn much, which is typically more of an issue for final/third entries. First game had a very clear "core" with Peter and Otto's relationship that tethered everything else together, but the sequel struggles to find that same grounding. Peter's relationship with Harry vs. Miles, Peter's corruption by the symbiote, Harry becoming resentful towards Peter, Miles' conflicted feelings towards Li, building up Kraven's threat...few of these things ever get the proper time to breath and so their conclusions feel like a half-baked excuse to get to the next plot beat ASAP.
the storyline in this game was so so good, I was genuinely distraught over peter losing himself to the symbiote. I didnt do any side quests or anything during that section. i made an effort to get through that part of the game as fast as possible because it felt so genuinely wrong for peter to be acting the way he was. I'm also so so glad they brought back Martin Li, he's my favorite spiderman villain by far.
I like the game but I don’t think they didn’t do enough to make the open-world unique with meaningful side content. It’s basically the exact same as the first, just faster
The side content was mostly fine but it was a step down from the first game. And there were more mission types that I didn't find fun (like the really long flying missions). My problem was how the missions unlocked. In the first game it felt like there was more variety at a given time. In this one it seemed like almost every side quest unlocked one at a time. Meaning you can either do the same mission over and over in different locations or you can wait till others unlock. And if you wait, the game will punish you since you won't have resources to upgrade.
The first one didn't have NG+ at launch either. Insomniac has said that they're going to try and get it out before year's end, right now they are focused on bug fixes.
I bought the first game when it came out and beat it while my son was to nervous to play. On new game plus I showed him how to swing, fight and he became obsessed with it. The Miles one came out and we beat it and had a fun time. Got 2 day 1 and we were giddy on the way home cause nothing was gonna stop us as we were going to "Be greater together" He unlocked his Andrew suit and me my Tobey suit. This game was a blast, and the anticipation till this game came out was through the roof! We kept pushing each other higher and higher everytime one would lose or start the next mission of beating up goons or boss fights and we love the game for it. I can't wait for 3 and have to say that Insomniac did a fantastic job!
Considering this is the third Spider-Man 2 that's been released since I was a kid( 4th if you want to count Game Boy and 5th if you want to count The Amazing Spider-Man 2) I still find it funny that only one of those games let you go to the goddamn Statue of Liberty. get your shit together developers I want to swing around that statue again.
Maybe in the 3rd game they'll have a story reason for you to go to the statue of Liberty. Like how in Spider man 2 for PS2 you went there to stop mysterio turning lady Liberty into a Giant mysterio
This is the best sequel to a game I have ever played. Hands down. There is nothing as satisfying as wrecking hoards and hoards of enemies as symbiote Spiderman.
My favorite mission is where spider-man helps find a senior and once he finds him both he and the senior spend a few minutes talking about the senior’s life.
I had to stop playing a lot of the side missions due to how boring they are. Like I don't care about some deaf girl Miles knows or "seeing things from the hero's perspective" I just want to play the game.
I blasted through this game in like 4 days, so clearly I don't hate it. It's one of the best games I played this year and it's one of the best pieces of Spider-Man media that exists. But holy crap this game made Starfield look polished. I have my own issues with the pacing and writing of the story, it's still great and a ton of fun but I like the first one better. But my biggest gripe was in the 32 hours it took me to 100% this game, I experienced five hard crashes, five instances of all of the background noise in New York City disappearing, one instance of enemies freezing in place and being totally unresponsive to combat, one instance of a mandatory button prompt not registering and soft locking me out of mission progress, one instance of my character model totally failing to render and instead having me jump and swing around as a little gray cube, random instances of enemies clipping through objects, crimes disappearing right as you approach them, other crimes showing up with no actual criminals to fight or activities to accomplish when you do get to them, Spider-Man constantly quipping about where did these symbiotes come from even though there aren't any there, The game not registering that I am pressing the right trigger and as such not releasing a web for me to swing on, and some really weird texture warping around characters next or the failure for anything other than their head and neck to render It does look like they just dropped a patch yesterday so they're definitely aware of these glitches, but it is surprising to see such a major Sony first party title be released with so many of them But again, all of that being said. Nothing was game breaking, nothing couldn't be resolved by either reloading the last checkpoint or restarting the game after a crash, and as a massive fan of the character and of the original game, this was still an absolute blast to play and I still go home and boot it up just to swing around the city. I am absolutely ecstatic for the addition of New game Plus as well as some other post game features, and then especially the DLC Insomniac is a developer that I am confident in there ability and intention to fix these technical issues, so I'm not going to hold it against the game forever, it just sucks that that's my first impression with it But much like the first one, I will be playing this game over and over again. There are a few other things I think it could have done better or actually does worse than the first game, but on the whole it takes what worked, cleans up a lot of it, and then make certain things way better. It's going to be hard to go back to replay that first game because it's going to feel really slow. Traversal was the best part of the first game, and it's the absolute best part of this one as well. Yes it really does make you feel like Spider-Man... 2
I agree with the story I really was bored through half of it. Then it picked up when he got the black suit then I loved it but through half the story it was awesome this game was as good to me as even MM but that’s just me
@@kingspeech2240 Yeah it has a slow pickup. After beating it I kind of see why they did what they did pacing lies with the story, the issue is just that having all these slower character segments for a bit would probably work if they were shooting a movie, but we're playing a game and it can start to feel real stale when you immediately get a taste for how exciting this game can be and then it focuses on high school flashbacks bike riding for an entire mission lol
you got to understand that starfield is actually one of the most polished games of this year. Like even more than baldur's gate 3 which had three years of Early access with feedback came out fairly boogie more buggy than starfield and had an issue where the game would become really sluggish and laggy and just unplayable after 2 to 3 hours. Like if I'm being honest out of every game that came out this year starfield was the one that I ran into pretty much no bugs this year. Like everyone clowns on Bethesda calling them bugthesda but somehow they released one of the least buggiest games this year.
(First of all sorry for my bad english im not a native speaker) Man I love this game but the story was so bad and the suits were ugly. RIP my boy Kaine Its a big shame. I was firmly convinced that the story would be a masterpiece. Spider-Man 1 made me laugh, gave me goosebumps and made me cry. And Marvels Spider-Man 2? I had no feelings about Spider-Man 2. Not even a facial expression flinched. I really tried to like the story but it just kept getting more and more absurd. 1. Black Suit. I seem to remember that the people at Insomniac said they wanted to do something special with the black suit. But I have to admit that none of this got me. Spider-Man's "dead" wasn't epic or anything. It was clear to everyone that he wasn't going to die anyway. He simply got the suit from Harry while he was about to "die". There were also no cool interactions between Black Suit Peter and Black Cat, Black Suit x Black Cat is just peak fiction. I would also have found a church scene very cool where Peter thinks about what he did so wrong. A epic shot of him. In the rain in the dark, starring at his hands while some epic ass music is playing. But no. We did have a church scene with Kraven, but it wasn't that spectacular. It was just for plot purposes. No other reason. 2. Harry Osborn I barely felt any emotions for Harry. I thought it was really nice how they explained the relationship between Peter and Harry at the beginning of the game. You could understand that they were best friends but the "death" scene of Harry was not good at all. I didn't feel any emotions. To be honest, I didn't even cared if he died or not. Miles even saved him in the end. At the end of the day it was just a reset from the first game. Harry is sick, Norman is desperate only with the difference that all the events with Venom happened. I and many others cried at Aunt May's death scene and I still cry to this day because it was so emotional. The Harry scene was not emotional at all for me. 3. Last Arc. The last Arc has a bitter aftertaste for me. I found it very epic and very over the top on the one hand. It reminded me a lot of Web of Shadows, but that's not a bad thing. I just think it's an exaggeration how we went from "A virus over NYC" to "We're going to take over the world and everyone will be a symbiote" (Regardless. Where are the other superheroes? The Avengers exist, etc. But I'm ignoring the point since it is a Spider-Man game). I think between game 1 and game 2, there could have been another game that was a danger to all of America or other continents. Harry could even have appeared in the game and we would feel a real bond with Harry, which they didn't achieve, at least for me in Marvels Spider-Man 2. Harry's "end" would be much more dramatic because we would have strong bond to know Harry better. What will it look like in the next game? Save not just the world, but the entire galaxy? What I loved so much about Spider-Man 1 was that it was a classic Spider-Man story. The story was realistic. This story was just a fanfiction from a kid, who wtachdd a Web of Shadows Anime Music Video from the 2010s. 4. Post Credit Scene 1/Norman Osborn. Osborn wanted Spider-Man to kill Venom but not Harry. He did exactly what he wanted and Osborn still gets so mad that he goes to Otto (The Otto thing makes no sense btw bc he doesnt even know Miles). I understand that Osborn is angry that his son is sick and injured again. Nevertheless, Peter and Miles did what he wanted. Everyone was ready for Harry to die, it was always mentioned how Harry would die if Venom died too but Peter still wanted to try to save Harry. He and Miles did it. Both of them saved Harry. Norman Osborn asks Otto who the Spider-Men are. I thought Norman Osborn was a smart man. Standing next to Peter is another Spider-Man with African-American hair and a specific hairstyle. Sure they didn't communicate properly, but wouldn't Norman find out in his lifetime that Peter has a friend/teacher who has the same hairstyle as Miles? Later, Mary Jane comes and holds Peter's hand. Yeah Norman didn't see it but like come on. AND YES IMNSONIAC. WE GET IT. OSBORN WEARS GREEN LIKE HOLY WERE NOT BLIND. 5. Miles weird suit. I don't want to talk about how the suit looks like because this is about taste. But does Miles even bother to hide his identity anymore? Why are you showing your hair? You're just making it easier for people to guess who you are. 6. Post Credit Scene 2. I was so excited to see who it was. My guess was Cletus with the twist that maybe they're bringing a version of Cletus who isn't known and every viewer knows that Miles' stepfather or what he would become is a dangerous man who might be Carnage at some point and knows that Miles is Spider-Man. How interesting that would be. Instead we got Cindy Moon as a new character. Regardless of what scandals this figure caused, I think it's a shame that another Spider character is coming. I just hope they completely rewrite her story and it's not some crappy "biological love" story between her and Peter or even Miles. But in the end she might just become a new side character without spider powers. Or she even becomes a good and exciting character. 7. Peter nerf. Brother, you worked as Spider-Man for years. You look like the biggest idiot while the 17 year old can do everything. This is nlt the Peter from Spider-Man 1 that I loved. 8. Venom had thousand ways to kill Peter. He grabs his head and flies somewhere. Why aren't you doing anything? What's with this plot bs? Just end it. Why let him live and throw him away? This is just bad writing. 9. Spider-man quit. I suspected Spider-Man would give up in the end. However, I thought because MJ is pregnant and Spider-Man can't afford to die bc hes gonna have a kid. But no, he just stops. Man this story was bad.Funnily enough, I was worried that the gameplay wouldn't have that much of a difference. The Gameplay was amazing. I loved that 10/10. My least concern was that the story would be so terrible because I saw that they could write the best Spider-Man story. I would say that the story of Marvels Spider-Man 1 is much better than all the Spider-Man films. But that was just disappointing and I was speechless at what rubbish this story was.
quick note on the bugs. I love this game but I've just experienced so many. Suits turning into debug cubes, object clipping/phasing, important NPC character models just not loading in even in cutscenes and then crashing the game when you try to reload your save. Lots of crashes, usually foreshadowed by the visual bugs. the game is otherwise good but they go beyond funny and into game breaking territory. Hope insomniac can patch most of em soon.
I had some minor issues with the game, like the side missions all unlock one at time so you have to choose between not upgrading and playing the same mission over and over. But my big complaint is the Kraven storyline really overstayed its welcome. It also didn't convince me that Kraven is not one of the most boring Spider-Man villains. Still everything else I loved. And everything else about the story was great (like Miles and Mister Negative, and the Venom stuff).
If you don’t think Kraven is that much of a menace then you didn’t pay attention to your play through at all. Look up his comic book origins to have better insight. Just because some villian doesn’t have powers doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy of being a superhero’s villian. You need to realize certain things about Kravens entrance and stay. Play it again buddy
I'm currently playing through the game now. Couldn't me more excited to see venom in a current gen game. I've been playing spiderman games for a long time and glad to see the series still kicking. Great review 💪🔥🙌
Thought the ending was incredibly weak. Like oh yay MJ is starting podcast??? Peter is like...retiring from being spiderman at 26? Miles designed the worst spiderman costume ever?
@@marquintabell5307 Interpreting this ending as "Just Peter taking a break" is like interpreting the cowboy riding into the sunset as taking a short walk.
I’ve gotta say, the fast travel in this game is INCREDIBLE! Once you’ve 100% completed any district you can fast travel where ever your cursor is on the map, and my god is the transition smoooooth! This kind of fast travel is going to be hard to beat for any other free roam kind of game
It’s a nice option but to be honest- half the fun in Spider-Man games in slinging webs around flying thru the city- fast travel kinda takes that fun away but still a nice option to have
@@SwiFTDBL oh I agree 100% brother. I’m just pointing out how incredibly flawless the fast travel is. I rarely use it as well, but when I’m not in the mood for a web slinging adventure, the fast travel system will get you where you want fast. It’s also cool how if you’re already swinging, and then fast travel, you’ll be in the middle of swinging again once you arrive at your location.
This game is a dream come true. I loved the first game but felt there could have been improvements made to it like faster and more manual traversal, improved graphics and of course adding the iconic black suit. I’m happy to say all those features were included. I love the story for the game especially the Lizard mission, Kraven vs Spider-Man mission and the Party Infiltration mission. Those were so fun and I love how we got to see Peter using his suits powers to their fullest extent. Including Sandman and Mysterio was something I didn’t think would happen but I was glad to see them.
I can only really say 2 bad things about this game. 1.) The length. For a game they're asking $70 for, this felt WAYYYY too short. I don't remember how long 2018's Spider-Man was but it felt way longer than this one. And 2.) The cosmetics. While a lot of the suits are good, about half of them are reused or derivative. Like why did we need both the new default suit and the old one when they look so damn similar the difference is negligible at best? Is there any reason they couldn't have included the old default costumes as a skin for the new ones? I'm glad the old models are here but it feels like padding
I think my biggest critique, beside how Miles wasn’t as involved with Harry and the symbiotes as I’d like, was that the gadgets themselves were kinda not that good. I would rather feel powerful using gadgets then have mediocre ones. I like how we don’t need to pause the action and we can just use them instantly, but I wish they were better and that Peter and Miles had different ones.
I know I’m in the minority here but I think I prefer the original game. Yes there’s some nice quality of life improvements here, and it sure does showcase what the PS5 can do. Yet I think Spider-Man 2018 is more unique and the story was more impactful.
It definitely shows you don't read comics because right after you said you don't read comics.. you immediately went to state the obvious about Kraven.. yes him being ruthless is and always has been part of his character. Also a more serious and sad venom ?? you mean... comics venom where Eddie has sad stories. Please don't act like you know what you are talking about when you clearly do not know about the characters you are talking about. If you just liked Venom and Kraven here and that's all. That's fine, even if the symbiote being pure evil is a dumb plotpoint anyway. But then don't act like yes this is a good take on the character and act like you know what you are discussing. Not to mention, yes while you didn't get any bugs it should still be brought up as a critique.. it's still an objective flaw within the game and should be mentioned and critiqued in a review called "Is Spider-Man 2 actually that good". It reminds me of your MGS critiques being stupid with the exposition and retcons criticisms when like.. all stories do exposition and hell you're a sonic and RE fan which are two series that retcon itself all the time, game series' that does those things way worse and yet you still take them seriously, you clearly as a critic do not hold everything to the same standard and this review proves that as you bash Sonic and other games for bugs and rightfully so might I add but then don't hold Spider-Man to the same standard when it also has bugs that players keep encountering.
I'm 95% a PC gamer, but bought a PS5 last month specifically for this game and it did not disappoint. Just a wonderful experience. The PS5 is truly an impressive machine.
The only thing I disagree with this review is that both Miles' and Peter's stories were handled with equal importance and that it felt well structured. One of my biggest concerns going into this game was "how the hell are they going to make Miles feel important in this HEAVILY Peter centric story" and it turned out that they DON'T. Until Peter goes on a rampage, Miles has the most boring and dull missions imaginable, while Peter is fighting alien possession, Miles is trying to save the museum and is worried about his college essay, that whole plot I found pretty dull. I don't think his story with Li is good at all, Miles' whole quest for revenge was never ONCE implied in this universe so it came off completely out of nowhere, and the actual confrontation with Li I found quite lazy. He sends you into this mind palace where he exploits your fears, but it's the most surface level character writing like "Miles is afraid that his friends will leave him"... ok, they won't though, like none of those things was implied or setup once, he was worried about his essay the entire game and now things get suddenly SERIOUS 😳Yeah wasn't fan of Miles in this game, which is a shame cuz I think his gameplay is more fun than Peter's, but you play as him for 50% of the game and they're writing him as an afterthought. The last boss fight you have in the game is against Venom as Miles and Miles doesn't have literally ANYTHING to say to the guy because the interacted with him twice in the entire game, and one of those times through a phone call. That is just... not good. Gameplay for the most part is amazing, but for some reason it really wants the player to EARN IT, it really loves to waste your time, MJ segments while not nearly as bad as they were in the first game, just went from bad reactive stealth to bad active stealth. AI in these games is REALLY BAD when it comes to stealth, the games fortunately don't use stealth a lot, but in a lot of stealth segments, playing as Peter included, it's just RIDICULOUSLY easy because the enemy AI is so NPC like. None of them have any peripheral vision or hearing senses. Even though I was fairly happy with the story aside from the Venom thing, felt a bit rushed, symbiote became evil kind of out of nowhere and Venom is NOWHERE NEAR as interesting as Ock was in the first game in my opinion, I am not really a fan of the character writing, to me Peter, Miles and MJ have like ZERO charisma, they're really dull, especially when I compare them to the dynamic Peter and MJ had in shows like 1994 or Spectacular. I have a suspicion that Insomniac was WAY more interested in adapting Kraven than Venom, but knew that Venom is more popular. Kraven is a MUCH better villain than Venom, he legitimately had some of the hardest lines in the entire game and his boss fight is probably my favorite one because of how personal it feels. It's two agile, intelligent warriors duking it out mano on mano. Yeah overall, I'd give a game a 7. Base gameplay is incredible, ridiculously fun and addictive, definitely way better than the first, story for the most part is serviceable, Kraven is AWESOME, Venom is kinda mid, character writing is kinda dull and stealth still sucks.
I felt that Kraven was considerably weaker than Venom narratively. He’s completely disconnected from everything and just kinda got bored one day. Honestly I think the villains with the most potential are flint and Quentin. Also, I liked the bromance between Peter and miles, and I think MJ’s relationship with Peter is fine, but the group dynamics were way off
@@buffkangaroodog I kinda like Kraven cuz of that, he's completely isolated from NY and I think that's kinda fire. My favorite Spider-Man stories were always the ones where you feel as if Peter is simply WALKING INTO the story which was already unfolding, Kraven didn't come into NY FOR Spider-Man, but for an equal, since he didn't want to have spend his entire life working, building towards something, just to have his body fail him at a relatively young age, like that's depressing af when you think about it. I legitimately REALLY enjoyed Kraven, every scene with him was incredibly interesting and captivating, I didn't care for Kraven this much since the Last Hunt, and this definitely took some inspiration from it. My only gripe was that I simply wish there was MORE OF HIM, and when that's the only critique I have of a character, you know that they're good. Sandman was great also, definitely one of the best bosses in the franchise, my top 5 would probably be: 1. Kraven (as Peter) 2. Vulture and Electro 3. Lizard 4. Doc Ock 5. Sandman I think Quentin's redemption is good and I definitely enjoyed his arc, but I was kind of disappointed on his actual missions gameplay wise. Mysterio has a lot of potential to really fuck with your mind, but instead it all kind of boiled down to "beat X amount of villains to proceed" Like what about a mission where you're surrounded by mirrors and the enemies would only be in the reflections, so you'd have to play the level while looking in the mirror, or a level where your controls are reversed or something.
Miles story with Martin li was actually nice because it shows how much vengeance miles had for li but decided not to be to cought up on that revenge by not hurting but and not forgiving him later on.
It was a great experience but it dragged on a little towards the ends. If they shaved off an hour or two in the main story it would be the perfect experience for me. Also the MJ missions were a real drag. I like MJ as a character but her gameplay was really limited. I wish we instead got a mission or two as Harry as the "good" venom or hell, even MJ as Scream. It was a great time though, I don't regret my purchase.
@@latima123ify It felt long because of the lack of enemy variety and boss battles honestly. And the boss battles we did get dragged on. Venom had like 6 or 7 phases in the end. You can't tell me you didn't get sick of fighting Kraven's goons because if you didn't I'd call you a liar.
This games was fantastic I was smiling with joy for the first two hours nonstop, but i also have some criticism. Understood that they wanted to cut down the side content from being meaningless but the game did feel slightly lacking on that point. I do think there should have been 1 more side quest line that involved both Spider-Men. I've got other minor nitpicks, but the last real issue I had was that the progression of black suit. I'd like to have Miles interact with Peter a bit more to see his Mentor go from and angry and losing his patience to violently angry. Because it feels like there is a step missing from Peter fall from grace.
I had a lot of fun and you’re right I was blown away away by how good the game was with the sandman fight perfectly getting you on boarded on how to play the game but kept it fast paced! Just finished the platinum yesterday and I think I put about 40 hours in
Griffin at least went into it with an open mind and liked the Sandman boss. Then he showed all the crap that makes me not want to play the game for the rest. I don't watch Synthetic Man, but if he's dissuading people from Spider Man 2, safe to say that review's better than J's.
@chandllerburse737 No, he went into it hyped and was let down, and all of the crap in the game like forced stealth or spongey enemies or playing as MJ just appeared before him.
I really enjoyed the side missions on this one. There was a lot of emphasis on the small things Spider-Man does that help in a really big way. I happened to not complete the Howard mission until the very end of my playthrough, and it was the last thing I needed to 100% the game. It was very poetic, and it was such a beautiful mission to end my playthrough on. This game was the only reason I bought a PS5 a few months ago, simply in anticipation to play it at launch. It certainly lived up to the hype for me.
I personally despised the end of the game. Spoilers ahead. When you finally kill Kraven in the game, it felt dragged out with a whole lot of nothing, and then the final boss fight was just RUSHED. I also despised the fight with Venom, it felt exactly like Odin from God of War Ragnarok. but I had so so so many bugs with Spider-Man 2.
I'd say it wasn't that dragged out kraven gets what he finnaly wanted and gets to not only die on his own terms as a warrior but he also creates the next "apex predator". Theirs also the parallels between Harry and kraven how one clings to life while the other wants nothing more to die, they're both trying to fight against their fate. I think the venom boss fight is way better just in terms of narrative and presentation this man venom lifts an entire school and football field and then gives you the hands. You also don't even get an actual w against venom even though your exploiting all of his weaknesses to the upmost ability. While Odin just screams like a little girl and goes on to just get slept by kratos, freya, and atrues 💀
100% agree. 10/10 game. Also apparently that cube bug wasn't patched because it happened to me today at the very end of my stream when I was buying all the costumes for the last trophy. It was actually hilarious webswinging around and fighting crime that way. Closing the game and restarting fixed it
In your video about TLOU 2 I actually heard your opinion and was able to understand it. But paycheck is not an opinion, so there is just nothing to understand here.
it's good to see you're doing a new frontiers vid on how the games has changed for the better over the course of the year. if it's the sort of thing you would be interested in care to try Hi-Fi rush, I just completed the game on normal this past week and are going back to wrap up missing collectables before the usual difficulty playthroughs for steam achievements. the whole emphasis on doing everything to the beat of the music is great and the humour is on point. special shoutout to the second major villain Zanzo being a game version of an absolute Jojo's bizarre adventure fanboy.
To the people who are angry that harry is venom and not eddie, have you seen anything outside live action the last 20 years? Ultimate spider man (the tv show) had harry as venom, im sure there are more but i dont read comics due to my adhd making it hard to focus on text
No one liked Harry as Venom in that cartoon. Granted, the concept was tainted by the show itself. Insomniac did however win me over on that idea though.
I would make the Point that the ultimate Spider-Man is alternate universe. Eddie Brock is the first venom, shown in the comics, movies and the animated TV series before the ultimate one. Him and the symbiote bond over their hatred for Spiderman, Brock already hates him and that feeling multiplies with the symbiote, that's what partially made venom so intimidating, he wasn't just stronger and faster and didn't set off spidersense, he was obsessed with spiderman and bringing him to ruin. That whole aspect is watered down now. People can like Harry being venom but I scratch my head at some people talking down to those that preferred the original story that I have been seeing.
Probably my favorite super hero game of all time. My only “issues” are the lack of post game material and no new game plus as well as no way of changing venom powers back to black
Honestly, the only MJ mission i feel it was needed was the section where you are looking for peter in the tunnel, because other then that they could have give us, either Miles missions where you couldn’t get caught, and had us use his camouflage (Something that is barely use in the game), or the second MJ mission we could've had been using Spider-Man fighting the Hunters, in queens, while he is sleep, maybe gaving sime scenes that gave us more of the Symbiote itself.
despite the exclusion of time of day change, mission replay, and new game plus, i love this game and is how you do a sequel. its up there with batman: arkham city in my opinion. theres some story beats that i wish were a little better but overall i loved it even the surprisingly emotional side quests. insomniac delivered in my eyes
I played Spider-Man 2 myself because I pre-ordered the game and it was amazing to play, but I had to play it on October 20 while others played on October 18. I don't know why I had to play the game on that day, but either way, it didn't bother me however i played this game on the second hardest difficulty and got destroyed by all the bosses except Sandman. The one that killed me the most was the god damn Lizard and he even crashed my game because I was parrying and dodging at the same time So what happened was, when a crush attack happened (crush attacks can't be parried or blocked, only dodged), I parried and dodged at the same time, so the game thought I was still in the parry position, but it also thought that i dodged so the game didn't know what to do so it just crashed There were four glitches that happened to me. The first one was the cube, the second was about the Lizard, the third was about me wearing colors similar to Mr. Negative in the anti-venom suit while i was doing Sandmans last mission, and the fourth was about me having an electric aura around Peter and Miles, even by switching to different characters i still had it (and before you ask no, it wasn't Miles's lightning)
This video was good to watch because I'm mainly a pc player who is a fan of these games and seeing someone who isn't overly negative about the game and explains the aspects that make the game fun was a nice change, The game is releasing this month january and i can't wait to finally swing again
I was a little upset with the game. They added way too many spiderman segments. Should have been all mary jane. One shots anything, also her Harley is as fast as web swinging. Im a little upset they added spiderman into Mary jane 2
Imagine if ppl and all of NYC knew who Spiderman was? Peter wouldnt have to worry about losing his main job or worry about paying rent and having to struggle.
Resident Evil 4 remake to me honestly deserves game of the year! That game is perfect Spider-Man 2 while great it had some aspects I wasn’t a fan of the story kind of felt rushed in areas

Like God of War Ragnarok new game plus didn't get added right away after launch. We had to wait about 1 or 2 months after God of War Ragnarok launched. Insomniac confirmed that New Game Plus is coming before the end of this year
@@Shahriyararin63 yeah but to me that’s a bad road developer’s are going these days, again I’m not saying Spider-Man 2 is a bad game far from it I just think Resident Evil 4 remake is game of the year that game was perfect!
If they do make Newman The villain of the next game I wouldn’t be surprised but I do hope they do hold them back for one game more or at least half of it just build on his evilness that much more
Was anyone else bored with this game? Sure, it looked great. The opening WAS fun, but I just felt like it wasn’t fun? I wasn’t as emotionally invested as I was with 2018. Anyway, cheers for getting PS to offer a copy. It’s been fun to re-watch these videos.
I was 24 years old when Spider-Man came out in 2018 I was 25 when Spider-Man Miles Morales came out in 2020 I can't wait to get Spider-Man 2 and play it!!!🇯🇵
I love the game but honestly and it hurts me to say this. It just isn't that good for game of the year. Main story is plain and mainly just Peter and side content is mainly just miles and other then Mr negative it doesn't really flesh out the villains. They were just kinda "there". Content just felt lacking and a collectaphon. I preferred miles over Peter for combat for most of the game cuz I liked miles venom abilities then peters which imo spider arms just sucks. More so cuz u get the symbiote so late and not for that long. And tbf miles new abilities just plain sucked. But combat itself is easy anyway. And the whole "woke" stuff in the game is actually suffocating. And overall the game is just plain quick. Not worth the money imo. I loved the game but I'm just disappointed with it.
Since we got venom carnage could also happen and if green goblin will appear in the future we could be getting the red goblin or king and black carnage
Buggiest game I've played from Insomniac (at launch). Rushed third act. Venom heavily advertised but only got 3 hours of screen time. Miles sidelined for most of the story. Sidequests that ended in teasers for third installment. Relatively short story. Too many recycled animations imo. I enjoyed the game. But it was clear Sony wanted it released ASAP. I personally dont think it deserves GOTY as a result. I'm a die hard Spidey fan but the game has too many flaws for GOTY
This game doesn't have too many flaws. The good outweighs the bad. - the bugs are minor so it's still playable unlike Fallout 76 - Venom has perfect amount of screentime - nothing is rushed. The 3rd act is amazing, especially the ending - Side missions aren't important because quality over quantity - duration doesn't matter because quality over quantity. As long if it has a good story (which the story is already amazing) then it's good. - it's not short. 20 hours is not so long and not so short. Marvel's Spider Man 2 is better then the first 2 games. Why? Because Insomniac never disappoints
It’s really good but it’s not a “perfect masterpiece”. The story is tremendous, barring a few odd choices (Silk? REALLY?). But the web swinging is a massive disappointment, especially after five years of waiting, I was expecting a much bigger evolution of mechanics. And besides that, it’s seriously unoriginal. It’s taking mechanics thought up by previous developers, and cramming them all into one (really well put together) package. E.g. wing suit from Just Cause 3, suit damage and point launching and slow mo and R2 parkour from Benox’s TASM games and so on. Overall, good game, not enough improvements.
@@SSJ_Lang On zero. Didn’t help any, for example when you swing too close to the ground, Spidey should run along it while still holding on to the web. Or skid his arm along the pavement. Instead, he just lands killing all momentum. Horrendous.
@@DarkDekicDukathere are plenty of improvements. There is a swing assistant setting. Just lower that. The web swinging is perfect because it's realistic and makes you feel like Spider Man. Nothing about it is disappointing because Insomniac never disappoints
@@Shahriyararin63 Ok fanboy. Go play Spider-Man 2 on PS2 and then you'll see what real web swinging is like. From a 19 year old game. Fyi, swing assist was on 0 for me, and it really wasn't an improvement.
@@DarkDekicDuka I played Spider Man 2 movie game, and definitely Insomniac is better. There is nothing about Activision Spider Man games got right that Insomniac didn't. Insomniac blew all of them out of the water. I am not fanboying. I am stating the truth not you.
I haven't played the game yet, but I've seen the full story, and I don't think I'm particularly impressed. It's certainly better than miles morales's story, but it's completely inferior to the 1st. In trying to cram all this spectacle, it loses a lot of the personal touch the 1st game had, and the rushed symbiote arc with peter doesn't help. It's supposed to be gradual, but peter is raving about how good it feels the moment he gets it. We don't get enough peter being a dick to his friends to MJ and Harry too. It's seriously just one good scene. The 3rd act also feels rush, and harry's fate, while sad doesn't compare to the emotion that the final boss of SM1 and Aunt May's death had.
Honestly a great game- and easily the best Spider-Man game I’ve played period (and I’ve played Spider-Man games going all the way back to GameCube LOL). The story was amazing and since it wasn’t anything we’ve seen before it literally felt like I was watching a new Spider-Man movie- but one that I could play and control the characters lol. Hats off to the devs foreal foreal
This is definitely the new standard for superhero games and i agree with most of what you said. I love the streamlined gadgets and new abilities, web swinging with no assist and the new moves is just complex enough to be fun without frustration and it really does make the first game look like a proof of concept. But i will say i think overall i prefer the experience of 1&MM. For all the great improvements i thought the game could have been bigger. The story was great but felt like it went so fast. I'm sure part of it is how much faster traversal is but i definitely feel the game could have used another 5-10 hours to make kravens resolution more satisfying and to give more time for venom stuff. I also think the side content was pretty lacking and samey. When i saw they changed the crimes i was pretty excited for some new stuff but its still mostly catch a car or beat up dudes. Not horrible but i think there was room for experimentation. Similarly the strongholds felt so easy. They give you so much raw power that the measly 2 waves feels like nothing, especially when the previous games had up to 5 waves. Finally i feel this with the villains. I think black cat being one mission was a huge missed opportunity especially with her portal tech. I feel much the same with basically anyone that isnt Li, Lizard, Kraven, or Venom. Seeing scorpion as miles or what happened to some of the sinister six was cool but i cant help wanting more missions like with yuri for both spidermen. Obviously theres room for improvement with dlc just like the first game so im ultimately not holding it against the game but i cant deny i would likely choose the first game/MM in terms of side content compared to the current state of SM2. But im sure NG+ and replaying strongholds and story missions will do a lot to close the gap
Bruhhh no its not. Spider man isn't revolutionary. It's more of the same for years. They just doubled down on what worked. Batman change the super hero game genre not spider man. Story was great the 1st time but after my 3rd play thru its extremely mid. 1st spider man I came in full and left empty after aunt may death. What your saying is not the gospel. State that's its your opinion. And even peter gets his ass beat by everyone in this game. Kraven 1 shots him, venom and miles beats him etc. But mary jane walks around with Thors tazer and 1 shots kraven goons. While miles and peter need whole 15 hit combo and gadgets to defeat 1. I bet this is your goty. Smh. Batman still the best super hero game. Spooder man is the 2nd best
I rate this game a 7/10. Apart from gameplay I think the story is worse than the first game. Miles gameplay is top of the line, he's so quick. The Venom story is such a drawback and thats from a crazy good design for Venom. I really had high hopes but man is it rough. Like they didnt know what to do with his rogues and just opted for what I think is the laziest way. Overall web wings makes it smoother but Game 1 has higher highs and middle lows. This game has low lows and middle highs. Not the best but its a fine enough game.
My only real gripe is that the iron spider arms shouldn’t have been in the game. Not because they aren’t fun to use, but because it doesn’t fit thematically. Like how can Peter be stretched for money but still afford the resources to make the arms? Also, the symbiote powers don’t feel as impactful as they should be because, while cool, its not that much more powerful than the arms, and its just overwrites the arms anyway. Not having the arms would make Peter’s feeling of jealousy towards Miles while wearing the black suit make more sense.

Hated him getting fired too, ngl. I love Science Teacher Pete from JMS' run
The opening is right out of a God of war opening. Huge boss to teach you controls.
the storyline in this game was so so good, I was genuinely distraught over peter losing himself to the symbiote.
It’s basically the exact same as the first, just faster
i actually think there's more stuff to do in the first game post story
This game is not worth 75 dollars at all
yeah, agree with this whole thread.
I love this game but it’s ridiculous how there isn’t a new game plus at launch.

@@Animefan-uk8pw hopefully.
This is the best sequel to a game I have ever played. Hands down. There is nothing as satisfying as wrecking hoards and hoards of enemies as symbiote Spiderman.
Same. And I played Arkham City.
But I honestly found this one a lot more fun ❤
This game is by no means a masterpiece, people need to get their heads out of their asses and make up their own damn minds.
But my biggest gripe was in the 32 hours it took me to 100% this game, I experienced five hard crashes, five instances of all of the background noise in New York City disappearing, one instance of enemies freezing in place and being totally unresponsive to combat, one instance of a mandatory button prompt not registering and soft locking me out of mission progress, one instance of my character model totally failing to render and instead having me jump and swing around as a little gray cube, random instances of enemies clipping through objects, crimes disappearing right as you approach them, other crimes showing up with no actual criminals to fight or activities to accomplish when you do get to them, Spider-Man constantly quipping about where did these symbiotes come from even though there aren't any there, The game not registering that I am pressing the right trigger and as such not releasing a web for me to swing on, and some really weird texture warping around characters next or the failure for anything other than their head and neck to render
It does look like they just dropped a patch yesterday so they're definitely aware of these glitches, but it is surprising to see such a major Sony first party title be released with so many of them
But again, all of that being said. Nothing was game breaking, nothing couldn't be resolved by either reloading the last checkpoint or restarting the game after a crash, and as a massive fan of the character and of the original game, this was still an absolute blast to play and I still go home and boot it up just to swing around the city. I am absolutely ecstatic for the addition of New game Plus as well as some other post game features, and then especially the DLC
Insomniac is a developer that I am confident in there ability and intention to fix these technical issues, so I'm not going to hold it against the game forever, it just sucks that that's my first impression with it
But much like the first one, I will be playing this game over and over again.

Man I love this game but the story was so bad and the suits were ugly. RIP my boy Kaine
Its a big shame.
Wow i guess it's true what Ranton says. Don't trust reviewers that accept review copies
quick note on the bugs.

Would've been better if the other villain deaths were included in the main story to make Kraven more threatening instead of working in the background.
Honestly I loved Kraven's storyline. He felt like a fuckin cult leader it was great

RIP impact webbing and web lines. Loved using those so much in 2018.
Sandman was great also, definitely one of the best bosses in the franchise, my top 5 would probably be:
1. Kraven (as Peter)
2. Vulture and Electro
3. Lizard
4. Doc Ock
5. Sandman
I think Quentin's redemption is good and I definitely enjoyed his arc, but I was kind of disappointed on his actual missions gameplay wise. Mysterio has a lot of potential to really fuck with your mind, but instead it all kind of boiled down to "beat X amount of villains to proceed"
Like what about a mission where you're surrounded by mirrors and the enemies would only be in the reflections, so you'd have to play the level while looking in the mirror, or a level where your controls are reversed or something.
I thought this game didn't do a good job with both spider-man in the story. They put to much in the this story for how long the story was
Miles story with Martin li was actually nice because it shows how much vengeance miles had for li but decided not to be to cought up on that revenge by not hurting but and not forgiving him later on.
@marquintabell5307 only thing with that was he didn't even mention li not once in his own game but I still like it
It was a great experience but it dragged on a little towards the ends.
I think you are the first person I have seen with this take. I constantly see people complain that the game felt way to short
game should’ve been like 5 hours longer bro wdym shorter 😭
honestly felt like the game was very short.
L take 💀
@@latima123ify It felt long because of the lack of enemy variety and boss battles honestly.
The only reason the side content felt shorter is: YOU DONT HAVE TO STOP 165 CRIME TO GET A 100 PERCENT!!!
You really gonna come on here and lie to us? Wack.
This game is too damn awesome ❤💯🤩
I had a lot of fun and you’re right I was blown away away by how good the game was with the sandman fight perfectly getting you on boarded on how to play the game but kept it fast paced! Just finished the platinum yesterday and I think I put about 40 hours in
Forgot the "leftist agenda" rating /s
8:50 - 8:55 you really just made a whole bar 😂
This game is still fresh, and I'm happy to see your amazing review glad to find a funny review while also being super honest.
Watched Griffin's review first, so no way I'm buying this game.
No one cares
Here you are. You do. xd
Why would you need comics to get into a video game?
That mission really got me. I didn’t expect myself to get a little emotional for that.
did the same thing with the howard mission and you’re so right
For a second I thought you meant Howard the Duck.
The pigeon mission? Are you kidding?

Nothing is rushed or dragged out. Insomniac never disappoints. The ending is good. Shut up
Too many manchilds thinking this ever stood a chance for goty.
100% agree. 10/10 game. Also apparently that cube bug wasn't patched because it happened to me today at the very end of my stream when I was buying all the costumes for the last trophy. It was actually hilarious webswinging around and fighting crime that way. Closing the game and restarting fixed it
Hard disagree. The gameplay is fun, since the original gameplay was fun and this only adds to that.
But, the story is terrible.
How is the story terrible?
Story is amazing because Insomniac never disappoints
No it isn’t
In your video about TLOU 2 I actually heard your opinion and was able to understand it.
But paycheck is not an opinion, so there is just nothing to understand here.
It’s the exact same game as the first with a new story. Not enough evolution/innovation
Welcome to a sequel bud
it's good to see you're doing a new frontiers vid on how the games has changed for the better over the course of the year. if it's the sort of thing you would be interested in care to try Hi-Fi rush, I just completed the game on normal this past week and are going back to wrap up missing collectables before the usual difficulty playthroughs for steam achievements. the whole emphasis on doing everything to the beat of the music is great and the humour is on point. special shoutout to the second major villain Zanzo being a game version of an absolute Jojo's bizarre adventure fanboy.
To the people who are angry that harry is venom and not eddie, have you seen anything outside live action the last 20 years? Ultimate spider man (the tv show) had harry as venom, im sure there are more but i dont read comics due to my adhd making it hard to focus on text
Even if it were eddie those same people would probably call it predictable there's no winning with some people lol
@@nate.infinity That is very much the case yes
No one liked Harry as Venom in that cartoon. Granted, the concept was tainted by the show itself. Insomniac did however win me over on that idea though.
@@thekillercritic3616 i liked it, i dont remember anything except Peter failing to bonk Harry with a "metal pipe sfx"
"This is something else" - Bully Maguire
Web of Shadow's combat is still leagues above any Insominac Spiderman game. People were crying for fall damage more than wall and air combat
Web of shadows is easily has the best combat in Spider-Man and that game was rushed.
Clearly we didnt play the same game. Was the gameplay good. Yes, but not leaps ahead of Sm1. The story and villians of Sm1 are leaps ahead of Sm2.
I adored this game. If the potential dlc is coming I will buy it no question, which isn’t a usual choice for me in dlc outside of fighting games
From what I have personally gathered... Hell yeah it is! I'll admit it has a few rough spots on the story, but damn Insomniac knocked it out again!
despite the exclusion of time of day change, mission replay, and new game plus, i love this game and is how you do a sequel. its up there with batman: arkham city in my opinion. theres some story beats that i wish were a little better but overall i loved it even the surprisingly emotional side quests. insomniac delivered in my eyes
MJ straight up got pod personed and is a totally different person in the new game
Skipping this game didn't really dig the first one and 1.5 didn't change my mind
Umm I'm not sure about "leaps and bounds" bruh 💀
I played Spider-Man 2 myself because I pre-ordered the game and it was amazing to play, but I had to play it on October 20 while others played on October 18. I don't know why I had to play the game on that day, but either way, it didn't bother me however i played this game on the second hardest difficulty and got destroyed by all the bosses except Sandman. The one that killed me the most was the god damn Lizard and he even crashed my game because I was parrying and dodging at the same time
So what happened was, when a crush attack happened (crush attacks can't be parried or blocked, only dodged), I parried and dodged at the same time, so the game thought I was still in the parry position, but it also thought that i dodged so the game didn't know what to do so it just crashed
There were four glitches that happened to me.
It came out on the 20th, anyone else playing it before that got it early
This video was good to watch because I'm mainly a pc player who is a fan of these games and seeing someone who isn't overly negative about the game and explains the aspects that make the game fun was a nice change, The game is releasing this month january and i can't wait to finally swing again
I was a little upset with the game. They added way too many spiderman segments. Should have been all mary jane. One shots anything, also her Harley is as fast as web swinging. Im a little upset they added spiderman into Mary jane 2
lol I see what you did there.
I like that we can use ps5 controller like a wimote and this game is awesome. It was the best experience ever
Imagine if ppl and all of NYC knew who Spiderman was? Peter wouldnt have to worry about losing his main job or worry about paying rent and having to struggle.
Yeah but then he’d have to worry about personal retribution which is worse
@@buffkangaroodog yes I'm aware of that and thought about it but I was referring more to how it would effect Peter personally from that aspect.

How about reviewing the Infamous games from Sucker Punch (Sly Cooper series)?
If they do make Newman The villain of the next game I wouldn’t be surprised but I do hope they do hold them back for one game more or at least half of it just build on his evilness that much more
Was anyone else bored with this game? Sure, it looked great. The opening WAS fun, but I just felt like it wasn’t fun? I wasn’t as emotionally invested as I was with 2018. Anyway, cheers for getting PS to offer a copy. It’s been fun to re-watch these videos.
Whatever marvel game has venom in it i hope they have Tony todd voice him again loved his performance
I thought it was the Toby maguire one.
The game is so damn good!!!!! I love the game. The bosses are awesome because they are what a boss fight should and would be!

I did fall through the ground over in queens after running and jumping there, then after loading in I was clipping through a tree

- the bugs are minor so it's still playable unlike Fallout 76
- Venom has perfect amount of screentime
- nothing is rushed. The 3rd act is amazing, especially the ending
- Side missions aren't important because quality over quantity
- duration doesn't matter because quality over quantity. As long if it has a good story (which the story is already amazing) then it's good.
- it's not short. 20 hours is not so long and not so short.
Marvel's Spider Man 2 is better then the first 2 games. Why? Because Insomniac never disappoints
Is Spider-Man 2 really that good?
No
It’s like a thousand times better

@@Shahriyararin63 I know, that’s why I said myself that “it’s like a thousand times better”
Can't wait to play this game for myself. Just waiting until Christmas.
I’m guessing you had swing assistance on 10
@@SSJ_Lang On zero.
I wish the final battle between Kraven and Venom wasn’t so easy. I also think it would’ve been better if venom went after Kraven at his base.
I wish the story was longer but I think a short and sweet story is better than a long and dragged out story

Well I at first wanted to avoid spoilers but since I’ve heard this game has problems I don’t wanna deal with spoilers are irrelevant to me
This is definitely the new standard for superhero games and i agree with most of what you said.
Spooder man is the 2nd best
web swinging does have a lot of assist, they just don't show it to you.
Go touch grass loser
I respect your opinion, I rate the game maybe a 8-9/10
Change that rating to 9.5/10. Because it's better then 7/10. Look at the other reviews, nobody gave it a 7/10. Everyone gave it 9.5-10/10
It’s not that bad bro u just weird

My only real gripe is that the iron spider arms shouldn’t have been in the game. Not because they aren’t fun to use, but because it doesn’t fit thematically. Like how can Peter be stretched for money but still afford the resources to make the arms? Also, the symbiote powers don’t feel as impactful as they should be because, while cool, its not that much more powerful than the arms, and its just overwrites the arms anyway. Not having the arms would make Peter’s feeling of jealousy towards Miles while wearing the black suit make more sense.
