      @@houseofmatrix6174 I dont believe that to be true. Roger fought for don at first but pretty quickly layed down for the rest of the partners. Not necessarily saying the partners were wrong. Don violated the terms they set for him. Pete was really the only one truly loyal to don up until the end in my opinion.

    This is so great. Pete does admire and, in a strange way, appreciate Don for the magnetic man he is. He hates him at first, while loving him, because he's jealous and wants to be him. I loved watching these two be rivals at first, then tentative allies, then mutually respectful colleagues, then finally pulling for each other. Don eventually saw the effective executive in Pete, the hustler, who despite his privileged upbringing was hungry and ambitious and wanted ti build something of his own. Pete saw in Don not simply a handsome vessel but a brilliant man who was burdened by a past, was emotionally disconnected, and who needed to vanish once in awhile. Great stuff, and a great arc.

      That was a wholesome scene. It's interesting how even though Don isn't considered particularly moral, people tend to gravitate towards him when in a crisis of conscience. I suppose its because Don gives off the vibe that he's been through some heavy stuff in his life

      I sort of saw it as him just really admiring his big brother and showing it off to all the kids in the schoolyard. "My big brother can beat up yours" kind of love towards the end. But in the middle of the series, he definately wanted to be like Don Draper like we all do.

    • @cjeff3549
      @cjeff3549 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I don’t think he wanted to be Don. Certainly not in a business sense anyway. Pete knew what Duck Philips didn’t. That Accounts need Creative and Creative need Accounts. He craved Don’s respect, but he also knew the agency(s) were just better off with a Draper on board. And Don reciprocated that with Pete. They made a formidable business pair.

      Don is everything he wants to be and as a resentful, young, perpetual failure, Pete both loves and hates him. Like a scientist and a horrible, marvelous thing. It's a perfect Oedipus complex if the mother is the status of creative director which you'll recall Pete was gunning for in season 1. Thanks to Roger and Bert making Don inadvertantly relent on Pete, he accepted his place supporting Don's genius after being stricken down in all his hate (blackmail episode). He knows Don more than anyone until the later seasons, and furthers his feelings being complicated. Professionally he's a maverick, at home he's a shameful loser even if only Pete and consequently Bert were aware of it.
