of course we are not all Pete because just the elite have rich parents that give you a job and stop managers to fire you just based on the status of your last name.... therefore Pete is just the shit rich dad person we all have to deal with from time to time... the materialization of non merit privilege.
Don isn't Don to himself.. very true. However... I love they way they use his good looks against him.. It reminds me of Sansa Stark in a way. You love to hate her but you love her nonetheless..
I used to style my hair like Don, then I caught a reflection of myself at work. I looked just like Pete Campbell. It’s the brilliant prank Weiner pulled on me.
Same for me! I hated the fact that maybe subconsciously I would probably commit all of those mistakes Pit commits ! But at the end he kinda got his shit toguether and matured. And that gives us all some hope.

In one of the first episodes, when Pete discovers Dons true identity. There is a line from Roger that Pete will be loyal to Don because he didn't get him fired. It's brilliant.

I hated Pete in the first couple of seasons. But as the show progressed I genuinely liked him and enjoyed his contribution to the show. He made me laugh.
He even comes up with the idea for television directed towards black families because they are an untapped market. But no one appreciates his idea. In my opinion Pete and Don are basically the same person but the show is showing how you can be the same but if just a few factors are different the outcome is changed completely. Don is just Pete with charisma and looks. Don Also didn't work for what he has. He lied or played dirty to get it all. For example he gets Roger drunk to get a job at the firm.

It's interesting that Pete goes from the most hateable character to one of the most likeable, while the character who a lot of people think takes his spot (Harry Crane) starts out as bumbling and kind of likeable, but just gets worse and worse. There's also a parallel in both of them often being ahead in their ideas, but not getting the recognition they think they deserve
Re-watching, I see that Harry's "Married" comments to attractive and available young women his colleagues are flirting with/sexually harassing is really just social convention holding in his worst impulses: he is not really a decent person.
And while Harry in the beginning seems to be quietly resigned to being unappreciated, he grows more and more resentful, even as he becomes more and more successful. Pete visibly craves recognition for most of the show but slowly learns that it's not what is going to make him happy, becoming Don is actually not a good thing, and his decision to get back with Trudy and move to Kansas of all places shows that he has learned humility. I do like that Harry gets to do one decent thing, help Paul start over. He is a pretty interesting character, given how unremarkable and seedy he is. I was actually surprised when I looked on IMDb and saw that he was technically in more episodes than Roger. You just dont feel his presence.

Also I noticed all three of these ad men have at least one daughter, anyone like to make a bed that Pete will develop a far more healthier and closer relationship with Tammy then Roger and Don did with Margaret and Sally?

I figure it's a given because: Sally started as a child and kids grow and change (same with Glen), Peggy merely got more stylish and fashion changed, but Pete aged visibly and even put on weight (whereas Peggy can still fit into her first day at work outfit)

I love how subtle they were with Pete maturing. Over the seasons you actually see him stick up for minorities and women and most of all he becomes a true and unconditional friend Don can count on. Criminally underrated character imo.
There's also something with him and flights, or even the fact of traveling. His dad dies in a plane crash, he and his mom during a cruise, the TV was playing the "touching the face of God" clip as he cheated on his wife for the first time since they got married (excluding Peggy), he wasn't able to drive until late and even after getting his licence didn't manage to start the manual jaguar in the store... the last image of his character in the series is the one at 12:14, as if he had overpassed this symbolic struggle of flying/traveling and was eventualy able to move on and fly away, with his family. The ending of the show was very positive for Pete
Totally agree. I also think it was extra potent because Pete was so strongly tied to New York. He was constantly talking about how it was such a great city, his prestige was strongly linked with his family being old NYC landowners and there are shots of him looking out at the skyline. Unlike the move to LA, where he reluctantly went for the opportunity to advance his career, he chose to leave NYC behind to start fresh with his family, which to me was an incredibly romantic gesture. I think the show did a great job of showing how that for men in their position, NYC was a buffet of temptation. Pete was ready to leave that behind to be with Trudy, we see this in the advice he gave his brother about having an affair. Away from the city and the associated pressures of living up to his name, his position, masculine values of NYC professional men, etc. he could focus on his family.
I think part of it is poetic because Pete’s biggest problem is that he’s never satisfied with what he has; he’s always yearning for more. Both of Pete’s parents died while traveling, while transitioning, never to reach their desired destination. Pete was doomed to this fate, as he could never accept the life that he had and would die chasing after something more just beyond the horizon.
Pete is the perfect representation of the millennial generation. He has no self esteem, is constantly trying to find himself and when he does, it's not perfect but he's happy with it.
That makes absolutely no sense. First off, this is a character from the 60s who grew up in 50s and is of a completely different generation. Secondly, that describes multiple people on the show. It's almost as if people are the same everywhere, no matter what time it is...
The concept of a millennial is ageless. Just the negative attributes of young people have become more vocal and that generation's become unanimous with it. Unfairly, really.
It’s funny that many fans of this show think less of Pete meanwhile adoring Roger for his witty one liners and care free attitude. The thing is Pete was a little child inside of a adult’s body (like many of us in this world), but he’s driven, hardworking and always trying to be a valuable person, even though people always look down on him, that make him very inspirational, I always feel like I could learn a lot from his skills and energy. While Roger stay a child all his life just because he can, just because he’s more privileged than any other character in this show so he can complain about everything and doing nothing. Pete is the opposite of Roger.
It's like how we like Don's comment about love being invented to sell nylons to Rachel while Rachel actually did find a life of love and started her family or how everything Peggy was figuring out and her optimism and forward-thinking and trying not to be sexy worked better for her than Joan's va va voom office ways. Roger and Don and Joan look good to us but in the end, their attractiveness is hollow and doesn't work for them (or us in real life!). Rachel, Peggy, and Pete are more relatable and develop more as people.
Jessica Victoria Carrillo God, I love Rachel and all the convo she had with Don, so fresh and deep. My heart broke to pieces when she died, so sudden and tragic, I don’t get why Matthew Wiener killed her off, is that even necessary to the plot?
I guess a big diff between him and her: she died young but managed to get a full and rich life aside from wealth. She has a family that loved and missed her, she had a successful business, she has a legacy she inherited that she refined.
When his voice breaks saying "I'm not so dumb anymore" begging for Trudy back, it was the only time I cried for Pete, hearing him truly realize how much he had and lost by mistreating Trudy, and finally understanding that, I was so proud of him.
Jessica Victoria Carrillo he was always ahead of his time . By encouraging his coworkers to hire a black women in his firm and other social issues he has dealt with. Which Don has acknowledge Petes progressive ways!

Really? I thought Ken was kind of on the opposite arc to Pete. He becomes more and more of a brattish arsehole. By the end, Ken is a character I loved to hate. The permanent eye patch is a great touch though haha.
Love this. Vincent Kartheiser had a difficult role with Pete and I think he pulled it off effortlessly. His growth reminds me a bit of Stan's growth throughout the series. Would love to see one about Stan.

Basically. But I would say that Stan is more of a frat bro to Pete's yuppie prep boy. Stan's style changes too like Pete's. He goes from the typical office asshole to the more laid back artist. He even grows that beard and wears that kind of hippie style clothing to show the change. I would say too that Stan's persona was all an act before. That night when he finds out his cousin dies in Nam and he tries to sleep with Peggy she tells him he can't mask it with drugs and sex. Maybe that wasn't the exact time he changed but it definitely helped to start it.
The reason that Pete Campbell is always striving despite his privileged background is because he felt unloved and unappreciated by his family, in the words of his demented mother "a sour little boy, now a sour little man."
They treated him like he didn't fit and wasn't deserving of his prominent name. That's why he was always needing validation. I love the evolution of this character. It was great to see him a success and finally feel good in his own skin.
I actually respected his determination to find his own way in advertising when he could have done anything else, and used his family connections to be anything else. He wanted his own path. Of course the problem with being raised in a blue blooded family was his inability to wait; he wanted quick fixes all the time. He was willing to blackmail Don into being made head of accounts, despite his work being good enough to warrant it happening for him eventually. His impatience was always an issue with his character.

@@Ftnvbee hello, I'm a stylist and I would say that it is expensive for a men's haircut..I would say around $50 is an average price for a womans cut. Definitely the price of a men's cut (at a barber) in the upper east side! :) For an expensive womens haircut in nyc could range from $75 to $150 (could even be higher!). Depends on the stylist's level and experience and of course, salon. lol that was a bit of a description you didn't ask for haha
@@Ftnvbee It is expensive, because although TODAY it might not be that expensive, people generally (have to) spend more on anything of value than was necessary in that time. So in essence, you could buy a very good haircut for $2-4, so _imagine_ the kind of vain jerk who would pay $5 (the upper limit) for something as simple as a haircut! It shows a reflection of values and a lack of good sense as to where to spend your money.
The lesson i learned from Pete Campbell's character is that you just need to stay in your lane. Work hard. Be your own person. Don' t compare your jouney to others.
You gotta multiply by 8 at the beginning of the series, by 7 at the end. I was also stunned when Roger paid for a meal in season 7 and said "10$? How much did you eat?" Or something along those lines.
Found some info that The average woman’s haircut cost $2 in the sixties. Today women’s hair cuts often cost twice as much as men’s. So if the average male cut was $1-$2 dollars in 1960 then $5 is up to 5x as expensive. Obvs just a very rough estimate but you get the idea

Am I the only person who liked Pete from the start? He just always seemed like the most realistic character on the show. He started off immature, melodramatic, petty, and insecure and seemed to me like a child or little brother who doesn't know any better
Anika L Ahmed I liked him a lot to start with because I found his family dynamic interesting. A few seasons later he was my favorite character after I had watched him grow up a little
It's funny how Pete's father emphasize the family name as something of great value, but then he dies and it turns out he's broke. A name doesn't pay for a house, car or food on the table. Sure, it gets you into elite clubs but what good is that really if you don't have the money to eat, drink or gamble there yourself? Pete trying to build a career independent of his family legacy and wealth paid off in the end.
@Enrique Olague Or not. When we look at people who are influencial in the modern world nowadays, there are plenty of people who are well respected and whose name weight a ton. From politicians and artists to kpop idols and influencers, self promotion and branding has never been easier than before.
I love your videos so much. It's like you guys organized all of the stoned conversations my friends and I have about these shows. It's a shame most people don't think this deeply about tv/film. Keep up the great work!
Max Monas Wisecrack is another channel similar to Screenprism, and has just as much consistently good content. Both are my favorite youtube channels (though I do enjoy Screenprism a bit more)
Its kinda hard unless you've read some psychology and behavior stuff. Also most people only watch shows once unless you really love it and watch it multiple times then you do notice stuff like this
Possibly the most likable character on the show. He's done some bad stuff like cheat on his wives and impregnate a married woman, but we still like him.
I always loved the dynamic between Roger & Pete. Roger clinging to the Head of Accounts job, even after he loses all his accounts, because he has the power of the full partnership and the relationships with Bert, Don, etc to keep him there. Whereas Pete gets stuck in that terrible middle office with the pole even though he's doing the majority of Accounts work. It's such a situation most of us can relate to but also hate.
Don and Pete’s relationship is one of my favourites, they go from being enemies, to begrudging respect, to Pete being one of the few people who stands by Don in the last season and the two along with Peggy finding a family in one another at Burger chef
I think everyone finds Pete insufferable, but every now and then when shit hits the fan, it’s like, “Pete’s the only one getting things done.” LOL. The scene where he moves Roger’s dead secretary in the background while the meeting is going on is also comedy gold.
lol yes, some great comedy moments in this show. The first time I laughed out loud at this show was when Peggy rings Don about the Sugarberry Ham stunt going wrong and then theres a pause on the line and Peggy asks 'Don..are you still there?' And he just makes this really bored face and sighs: 'Yes..'
Two most disliked characters - Pete and Betty - are my favorites. I love them even though sometimes I hate them. Probably because they are so easy to relate to.
The storyline where Pete fell for a fellow commuters wife was compelling. I really felt his sadness when she no longer recognized him after she had shock therapy.
Pete was, in my opinion, one of the great triumphs of Mad Men, in conception, casting, writing. I loved following his journey. He was a complex character, although not every viewer saw him that way. But they gave him his wins and his losses, his real strengths and the things against which he struggled (sometimes painfully). VK was always brilliant, equally in drama and crack comedic timing. It was a risky inspiration to write a character who has a charm deficit and cast him with an actor who has so much charm...and it worked.
I'm rewatching Mad Men for the third time right now and since a couple of days I can't stop thinking about the fact that I like Pete's character despite the awful things he's done. Thanks for the pleasant coincidence. Great video as always!
I watched it for the 3rd time too. You know a classic is when you can watch it for the 3rd time and still pull more from it. I decided I disliked betty the most this run but liked Pete the most. We was always ahead of his time. Drove me crazy when people would never listen to him.
As a young adult man myself who started as a newbie at a corporate office, i find a lot of similarity between me and him from the early seasons. I want to be Don Drapper, but i don't deny that I'm Pete Campbell.
Miranda Sally Draper is the classic baby boomer, she resents her silent generation parents, but we know she’ll end up like them, or will try so hard not to end up like them, she’ll lose herself, I can see her having children young, in the 70s, she’ll divorce and then remarry and have another child, and become a yuppie in the 80s, her children will be Gen x and millennials

You should’ve mention how the dead of his parents really mark turning points in his life. In the arc When his mother is losing her mind, there’s a scene of him and Peggy laughing their asses off, about the sexual stuff his mom wa saying, and I think it was the first time Peter was truly free and comfortable in his own skin. And it was nice to see how he and Peggy genuinely liked each other he also helped her in the beginning of her career. And respected her and her work.
One of the best written characters in television history. We all relate to Pete in one way or another. Having been married to a spoiled beautiful girl, I can see flaws in Trudy that others don’t.
I really fell in love with you with this one. Pete Campbell has been my favourite character on the show since S1. He is so insecure and so desperate to please his role models like Don, Roger, the establishment in general; I always thought it's really heartbreaking.

Pete is such a good character. There are so many things about him that make him such a snake but he also can be a really good guy. I definitely quote him more than any other Mad Men character. "Hell's bell Trudy!" "Well that makes me the president of the Howdy Doody Club." "Not great Bob!"
When Don says Pete never would've let Lucky Strike leave, it was such a small moment but seemed like such a big shift in their relationship. Don genuinely respects Pete's work. Pete is good at what he does, and so is Don. The competition between them seemed to die down.
Pete was one of my favorite characters alongside Peggy He was responsible and very good at his job. That to me is admirable Although he had many problems and insecurities he never let those get in the way of getting the job done!
In a narrow sense, Pete didn't take the easy route and fall into the trap of his parents and his brother to some degree. He worked hard and made something of his life - he earned his eventual success. He had a strong work ethic. How ironic that his parents looked down upon him - they were completely pathetic.
I just rewatched whole show just to see from Pete’s perspective.. what a great show.. what a story telling.. heart skips a beat and miss something every time I finish watching madmen..
Pete whining to Don on the elevator saying "I have nothing, Don..." is one of the most hilarious moments of the entire show to me and I'm honestly not even sure if it's supposed to be funny or not. It's just how melodramatic he is in an era when men were still supposed to be "men". LOL!
Love these character studies of some of the best characters created. The Mad Men ones are particularly good, with such thorough research, editing and delivery. These characters are complex and interesting and deserve to be appreciated in such way. I would love to see more on Sopranos characters too. The show has aged well and there are so many intertwined individuals with their external and internal conflicts waiting to be disected gracefully like these videos do. Great job ladies, thanks for the hard work!
It was a nice touch. The director had some of the cast gain weight too during different times of the show. I really appreciate those details. Like facial hair changes, civil rights in the back ground, the historical Ali fight, moon landing. A lot happened in the 60s lol I love it
I’m so addicted to these in depth analysis of Mad Men. There are so many characters that I would like to have a deep analysis like Sally , Kenneth ,Dawn, or Megan.

Pete's arc is astonishing work. It's subtle and dignified. He makes huge mistakes, but he earns his redeption with Trudy at the end.

I love how subtle they were with Pete maturing. Over the seasons you actually see him stick up for minorities and women and most of all he becomes a true and unconditional friend Don can count on. Criminally underrated character imo.

There's also something with him and flights, or even the fact of traveling. His dad dies in a plane crash, he and his mom during a cruise, the TV was playing the "touching the face of God" clip as he cheated on his wife for the first time since they got married (excluding Peggy), he wasn't able to drive until late and even after getting his licence didn't manage to start the manual jaguar in the store... the last image of his character in the series is the one at 12:14, as if he had overpassed this symbolic struggle of flying/traveling and was eventualy able to move on and fly away, with his family. The ending of the show was very positive for Pete
Totally agree. I also think it was extra potent because Pete was so strongly tied to New York. He was constantly talking about how it was such a great city, his prestige was strongly linked with his family being old NYC landowners and there are shots of him looking out at the skyline. Unlike the move to LA, where he reluctantly went for the opportunity to advance his career, he chose to leave NYC behind to start fresh with his family, which to me was an incredibly romantic gesture. I think the show did a great job of showing how that for men in their position, NYC was a buffet of temptation. Pete was ready to leave that behind to be with Trudy, we see this in the advice he gave his brother about having an affair. Away from the city and the associated pressures of living up to his name, his position, masculine values of NYC professional men, etc. he could focus on his family.
I think part of it is poetic because Pete’s biggest problem is that he’s never satisfied with what he has; he’s always yearning for more. Both of Pete’s parents died while traveling, while transitioning, never to reach their desired destination. Pete was doomed to this fate, as he could never accept the life that he had and would die chasing after something more just beyond the horizon.

Pete is the perfect representation of the millennial generation. He has no self esteem, is constantly trying to find himself and when he does, it's not perfect but he's happy with it.
That makes absolutely no sense. First off, this is a character from the 60s who grew up in 50s and is of a completely different generation. Secondly, that describes multiple people on the show. It's almost as if people are the same everywhere, no matter what time it is...
The concept of a millennial is ageless. Just the negative attributes of young people have become more vocal and that generation's become unanimous with it. Unfairly, really.

It’s funny that many fans of this show think less of Pete meanwhile adoring Roger for his witty one liners and care free attitude. The thing is Pete was a little child inside of a adult’s body (like many of us in this world), but he’s driven, hardworking and always trying to be a valuable person, even though people always look down on him, that make him very inspirational, I always feel like I could learn a lot from his skills and energy. While Roger stay a child all his life just because he can, just because he’s more privileged than any other character in this show so he can complain about everything and doing nothing. Pete is the opposite of Roger.
Grown-ass Man Roger made me laugh but I never respected him. Pete I hated but grew to not only adore him but also respect by the end of the show.
It's like how we like Don's comment about love being invented to sell nylons to Rachel while Rachel actually did find a life of love and started her family or how everything Peggy was figuring out and her optimism and forward-thinking and trying not to be sexy worked better for her than Joan's va va voom office ways. Roger and Don and Joan look good to us but in the end, their attractiveness is hollow and doesn't work for them (or us in real life!). Rachel, Peggy, and Pete are more relatable and develop more as people.

I guess a big diff between him and her: she died young but managed to get a full and rich life aside from wealth. She has a family that loved and missed her, she had a successful business, she has a legacy she inherited that she refined.
When his voice breaks saying "I'm not so dumb anymore" begging for Trudy back, it was the only time I cried for Pete, hearing him truly realize how much he had and lost by mistreating Trudy, and finally understanding that, I was so proud of him.
Not so dumb but not so hot anymore either 😮😂 Trudy leveled up and ol boy got older. Happens in real life too often as well.

Really? I thought Ken was kind of on the opposite arc to Pete. He becomes more and more of a brattish arsehole. By the end, Ken is a character I loved to hate. The permanent eye patch is a great touch though haha.
Love this. Vincent Kartheiser had a difficult role with Pete and I think he pulled it off effortlessly. His growth reminds me a bit of Stan's growth throughout the series. Would love to see one about Stan.

Basically. But I would say that Stan is more of a frat bro to Pete's yuppie prep boy. Stan's style changes too like Pete's. He goes from the typical office asshole to the more laid back artist. He even grows that beard and wears that kind of hippie style clothing to show the change. I would say too that Stan's persona was all an act before. That night when he finds out his cousin dies in Nam and he tries to sleep with Peggy she tells him he can't mask it with drugs and sex. Maybe that wasn't the exact time he changed but it definitely helped to start it.

The reason that Pete Campbell is always striving despite his privileged background is because he felt unloved and unappreciated by his family, in the words of his demented mother "a sour little boy, now a sour little man."
They treated him like he didn't fit and wasn't deserving of his prominent name. That's why he was always needing validation. I love the evolution of this character. It was great to see him a success and finally feel good in his own skin.
I actually respected his determination to find his own way in advertising when he could have done anything else, and used his family connections to be anything else. He wanted his own path. Of course the problem with being raised in a blue blooded family was his inability to wait; he wanted quick fixes all the time. He was willing to blackmail Don into being made head of accounts, despite his work being good enough to warrant it happening for him eventually. His impatience was always an issue with his character.
Watching Pete is like watching yourself on security footage and realizing this is how you act in the real world

Definitely the price of a men's cut (at a barber) in the upper east side! :) For an expensive womens haircut in nyc could range from $75 to $150 (could even be higher!). Depends on the stylist's level and experience and of course, salon. lol that was a bit of a description you didn't ask for haha

So in essence, you could buy a very good haircut for $2-4, so _imagine_ the kind of vain jerk who would pay $5 (the upper limit) for something as simple as a haircut! It shows a reflection of values and a lack of good sense as to where to spend your money.

Found some info that The average woman’s haircut cost $2 in the sixties. Today women’s hair cuts often cost twice as much as men’s. So if the average male cut was $1-$2 dollars in 1960 then $5 is up to 5x as expensive. Obvs just a very rough estimate but you get the idea

Am I the only person who liked Pete from the start? He just always seemed like the most realistic character on the show. He started off immature, melodramatic, petty, and insecure and seemed to me like a child or little brother who doesn't know any better

It's funny how Pete's father emphasize the family name as something of great value, but then he dies and it turns out he's broke. A name doesn't pay for a house, car or food on the table. Sure, it gets you into elite clubs but what good is that really if you don't have the money to eat, drink or gamble there yourself? Pete trying to build a career independent of his family legacy and wealth paid off in the end.

I always loved the dynamic between Roger & Pete. Roger clinging to the Head of Accounts job, even after he loses all his accounts, because he has the power of the full partnership and the relationships with Bert, Don, etc to keep him there. Whereas Pete gets stuck in that terrible middle office with the pole even though he's doing the majority of Accounts work. It's such a situation most of us can relate to but also hate.
He is perhaps the only character in Mad Men who pushes the story forward whenever he comes on screen. Something's bound to happen when Pete comes in.
Don and Pete’s relationship is one of my favourites, they go from being enemies, to begrudging respect, to Pete being one of the few people who stands by Don in the last season and the two along with Peggy finding a family in one another at Burger chef

I think everyone finds Pete insufferable, but every now and then when shit hits the fan, it’s like, “Pete’s the only one getting things done.” LOL. The scene where he moves Roger’s dead secretary in the background while the meeting is going on is also comedy gold.
lol yes, some great comedy moments in this show. The first time I laughed out loud at this show was when Peggy rings Don about the Sugarberry Ham stunt going wrong and then theres a pause on the line and Peggy asks 'Don..are you still there?' And he just makes this really bored face and sighs: 'Yes..'
Pete was always one of my favorite characters. He was so interesting and complicated, and played so brilliantly by Vincent Kartheiser.
For me Pete’s ending was the best and it made me smile when they boarded the plane.

Two most disliked characters - Pete and Betty - are my favorites. I love them even though sometimes I hate them. Probably because they are so easy to relate to.
The storyline where Pete fell for a fellow commuters wife was compelling. I really felt his sadness when she no longer recognized him after she had shock therapy.
The dance scene with Pete and Trudy 🤩 seemed so random in the show but fit so well
I’ve always liked Pete, for many reasons. I’m happy to see him analysed as something else than a cocky little man. Great video, as always!
Pete was, in my opinion, one of the great triumphs of Mad Men, in conception, casting, writing. I loved following his journey. He was a complex character, although not every viewer saw him that way. But they gave him his wins and his losses, his real strengths and the things against which he struggled (sometimes painfully). VK was always brilliant, equally in drama and crack comedic timing. It was a risky inspiration to write a character who has a charm deficit and cast him with an actor who has so much charm...and it worked.

I watched it for the 3rd time too. You know a classic is when you can watch it for the 3rd time and still pull more from it. I decided I disliked betty the most this run but liked Pete the most. We was always ahead of his time. Drove me crazy when people would never listen to him.

You should’ve mention how the dead of his parents really mark turning points in his life. In the arc When his mother is losing her mind, there’s a scene of him and Peggy laughing their asses off, about the sexual stuff his mom wa saying, and I think it was the first time Peter was truly free and comfortable in his own skin. And it was nice to see how he and Peggy genuinely liked each other he also helped her in the beginning of her career. And respected her and her work.

I really fell in love with you with this one. Pete Campbell has been my favourite character on the show since S1. He is so insecure and so desperate to please his role models like Don, Roger, the establishment in general; I always thought it's really heartbreaking.

Pete is such a good character. There are so many things about him that make him such a snake but he also can be a really good guy. I definitely quote him more than any other Mad Men character.

When Don says Pete never would've let Lucky Strike leave, it was such a small moment but seemed like such a big shift in their relationship. Don genuinely respects Pete's work. Pete is good at what he does, and so is Don. The competition between them seemed to die down.

He was responsible and very good at his job. That to me is admirable
Although he had many problems and insecurities he never let those get in the way of getting the job done!
In a narrow sense, Pete didn't take the easy route and fall into the trap of his parents and his brother to some degree. He worked hard and made something of his life - he earned his eventual success. He had a strong work ethic. How ironic that his parents looked down upon him - they were completely pathetic.
His life's problem began with being born to his parents....

Love these character studies of some of the best characters created. The Mad Men ones are particularly good, with such thorough research, editing and delivery. These characters are complex and interesting and deserve to be appreciated in such way. I would love to see more on Sopranos characters too. The show has aged well and there are so many intertwined individuals with their external and internal conflicts waiting to be disected gracefully like these videos do. It was a nice touch. The director had some of the cast gain weight too during different times of the show. I really appreciate those details. Like facial hair changes, civil rights in the back ground, the historical Ali fight, moon landing. A lot happened in the 60s lol I love it
