I was coming down to say this, then saw this. Fucking this. It sums up the entire season and in essence the entire series in a single moment about someone who has it all, but in a way has nothing. Beautiful scene.
I believe he was speaking for society as a whole because as we age we disappear and no one pays attention to us like if you had the same experience as a child - especially middle children.
There is so much from the final episode alone that could be on this list. Joan: "We won't answer to anyone." Peggy finally finding love. Don's meditation cutting to the coke commercial. Betty's letter to Sally. Pete literally flying off to his dream life. God, this fucking series is so good.
Don walking away from Megan while she is being made up for her TV debut and the strings of "You Only live twice" start. Following a montage of the characters ending the season, he goes to a bar and a girls asks "Are you alone?". He just looks at her. Classic!
Weirdly for a show that won 4 Emmys in a row, the show's actually become quite underrated over time. It's probably the most consistent show season-to-season I've ever seen. Out of 7 seasons season 6 was the only one that wasn't excellent, and even that had a really great finale. The final season (or half-season) was probably the best thing on TV that year other than Fargo and Hannibal yet it didn't seem to get much credit at all
+GiantSandles i think MadMen became it's own worst enemy in that it was so good and deservedly won so many awards, that other shows/the network officials kind of colluded against them. they couldn't pay for an award after the 4th season - which was absolute insanity. that show should have taken home awards every year for its excellence. instead of punishing, the show should have been lauded as one that every actor/actress should use as a tool in mastering their craft. everyone brought their A game, including the children. because the jealousy of the show had become SO obvious and in the ether towards the shows end, it would been incredibly foolish to not give jon hamm an emmy for his portrayal of don draper. people may have actually stopped watching; you can't have a show if no one watches.
One of the reasons the show was great was that the makers of the same went all out to capture not just the physical look of the time, but the social and other atmosphere of the time. My Dad was an exec (not in advertising) during the time "MM" is set, and much of what the show puts forth was definitely true and accurate. Great show, sorry it is now done.
I loved Lane so much it truly shocked me they killed him but it's one of those moments when you realize you're dealing with an extremely well made show.

The episode where Pete realises his love for Trudy and pleads her to go to Wichita with him, that scene actually made me happy. Pete may have been a snake for most of the show's run but the final few episodes redeemed him a little bit
YES YES YES YES. Literally crushed my fucking heart. It was an important moment where Peggy completely put her career over her heart and also forced us to realize that Pete really wouldn't have made a great husband/partner.
The carousel scene still gives me goosebumps when Don says "it's a time machine".. I grew up in the 60s and we had a Kodak Carousel slide projector we used a LOT. Hearing the slides clicking when Don is making his sales pitch takes me back.
The one where he says goodbye to Anna for the last time knowing she will die while she’s in blissful ignorance is one of the most crushing scenes ever. He wants to give a proper goodbye but has to restrain himself in order to preserve her peace of mind. One of the most emotionally powerful and jarring scenes I’d ever watched.
I definitely think the scene where we find out what really happened in Korea should be on here, or at least The Hobo Code where we learn that Don is not who he says he is.
They didn’t even include the best scene from “The Suitcase” the end of the episode where Don breaks down in front of Peggy and then when she comes into his office and he shows her the campaign and grabs her hand. That whole episode was just great.

We can make New shows like this that take place n the 1950s about all sorts of corporate industries, we could have a show that would be way more interesting about the Aerospace Industry showing atomic weapons and we could crowd fund it all, just pic a subject and we could make an incredible show about it and just have it take place in the 1920s like boardwalk empire or have one about world war 2 with the war in teh background, have a show about anything really Mad Men shows us how easy it is to make a compelling show if you just have the right actors and actresses and writing and set design
I was glad to see Joan's segment on this list. During the whole series I was always expecting to see her break until I understood that it's her resiliency that really characterizes her. She is a wonderfully complex, beautiful character. Damn, I will miss the hell out of this show...
….yet it had to end and brilliantly so, that is why there are re-runs! Living through the 1960s, I think that the Manson Tate-la Bianca murders ended the innocence of the decade.

It's absolutely realistic, focuses on character arcs, story progression and wants to tell a story. No woke shit in there so yeah, shows now do the opposite, just woke, nothing else. Will be a long time before we see such a masterpiece again

For some reason, the scene when Don makes Connie Hilton an old fashioned at Roger’s wedding is my favorite. The unbridled confidence when he has no idea who Connie is. Literally, Don at his best. Personable, of course mysterious, and cavalier in the best way; yet, vulnerable, of course arrogant (rightfully so), and brutally sincere. One of the most flawed characters in the history of television; therefore, one of the best.
"It's not a wheel; it's a carousel." That's my favorite Mad Men scene, having remembered Kodiak's Carousel Slide Projector, but never knew Sterling Cooper developed the name!
For me its the historical references that makes this series. Snippets of culture/popular culture(bye bye birdie, marsha and john, etc) some of which I knew of some of which had to look up, the moon landing, Kennedy being shot, MMs death and life and the effect of it on people etc etc. Seeing those events that I never witnessed but read or heard about and witnessing them through other people's eyes is done beautifully and sets this otherwise 'entertaining' drama series apart as something truly remarkable.
The carousel pitch isnt just Don Draper at his finest, it's Mad men at it's finest finest. I think that's the moment I decided I really liked the show, up until that point, I wasnt really hooked. I only started watching the show in December, I think but it's already become one of my favorites of all time. I will miss it after it ends

While all these moments are great, there really, really, REALLY needed to be some moments from Don's past here. What sticks in my mind most as incredibly poignant and sad (especially given what happened later) was when Don's brother sees him on the train after Don (or Dick Whitman, really) has supposedly been killed in action.
Yes -true! You have to be a sick and twisted soul to torture your family like that, especially that young kid, so you can guess what sort of a narcissist, don draper was in his soul !
Honestly the scene where don sees Bert dancing after his death should be top 3 along with the heinz beans pitch between don and meghan, that scene was incredible! Also that scene where hes trippin out and he almost drowns. So many better scenes than this list
A memorable episode for me is when Don takes his family out for a picnic in his new Cadillac. As they get ready to go home, Betty flings all their trash on the ground. They drive off, but the camera stays. And stays. Without a word; it speaks Loud and Clear.
I think Bert Cooper's ghost doing the song and dance with the secretaries should have been number one. I waited for the entire series for Mad Men to pay homage to Robert Morse' musical background. That scene was fantastic!!!
I’ve watched the entire series multiple times over and it’s still just as amazing watching it now as the first time. One of the most polished and greatest tv shows of our time.
Pete finally admitting to Peggy that he truly loves her only to find out that she did at one time love him, had his baby, gave it away and can never love him ever again. Amazing scene!
I was shocked Pete didn't ask any questions about his child. And the scene when he begs for forgiveness so his wife takes him back; I imagined in my head that he would confess to his family on his death bed.
blankenship dying at her desk was amazing, he's lost secretaries in just about every possible way, peggy was promoted, jane had an affair with roger and married him, that phone girl was a ditz and was fired, meg and him got married lol that was just awesome.

For example, him and Clint Eastwood were born in 1930/1931. Segregation was an actuality for the first thirty years of their existence! It's mind boggling all the development that a person witnesses in their lifetime.
I was a child of the Sixties, but my parents were the character's ages at the time. And although their situations were somewhat different, their themes were exactly the same. Such a spot on show and always brings me back with a thrill and a chill...

My favourite show of all time, the sopranos following in close second. People think mad men is boring but I think that ignores its beauty. Mad men was created to reflect the reality of life - some events in life seem mundane at first but time and other people's actions create significance. The growth from season 1 to 7 makes it feel like a new show every season.
To me this is one of the best series that I have seen on TV. It touches so many subjects that are of interest from that era: advertising, sexism, racism, homophobia, familyu values, and alcoholism. Not only was the series entertaining but it was a bit educational for me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me, it was. I also liked about Mad Men that all of the characters had interesting individual stories, all well written and developed and that all of the characters grew throughout the run of series.
This is one of the most consistent and , quality acting ,along with fine storytelling and direction ,one can find in any Series that runs into 7seasons and is able to command gripping attention,kudos to Jon Hamm,and all other actors,for portraying a bygone era beautifully
Hit the nail on the head with the #1 pick. That scene had me completely hooked. Heartfelt, and sold the pitch like nothing else. Made me want to switch careers into marketing and coming up with ad campaigns on my own.

I couldn’t forget the shock of seeing Betty like that. Also realizing that Don was married (to Betty) at the end of episode 1. I was hooked from then on.
A great tribute to an amazing show. So hard to choose a favorite, and you have certainly named most of what would be on my top 5, but if I had to choose one that wasn't on your list, it would be a scene with Don and Sally, where Don takes his kids to see the house where he grew up. The father/daughter relationship between Don and Sally was done SO well in Mad Men, and that you got to watch Sally grow up in real life through the show was a real treat. This scene, along with the Judy Collins song 'Both Sides Now' is both powerful, and sentimental. I re-wound it at least a dozen times the first time I saw it, and it managed to bring tears to my eyes each time.
Betty and Don’s final phone call and Peggy and Don’s last phone call. Both women he loved in different ways. Very emotional scenes. My favorite TV show of all time 🙌
The scene that deserves number one spot in my opinion, is the scene in the last episode where the guy is explaining his feelings of loneliness and his feeling of not being a part of things. It always makes me tear the fuck up, I'll never forget such a wonderful show.

"It's not a wheel; it's a carousel." That's my favorite Mad Men scene, having remembered Kodiak's Carousel Slide Projector, but never knew Sterling Cooper developed the name!
Sterling Cooper (in all it's incarnations) was always fictional.

For me its the historical references that makes this series. Snippets of culture/popular culture(bye bye birdie, marsha and john, etc) some of which I knew of some of which had to look up, the moon landing, Kennedy being shot, MMs death and life and the effect of it on people etc etc. Seeing those events that I never witnessed but read or heard about and witnessing them through other people's eyes is done beautifully and sets this otherwise 'entertaining' drama series apart as something truly remarkable.
The carousel pitch isnt just Don Draper at his finest, it's Mad men at it's finest finest. I think that's the moment I decided I really liked the show, up until that point, I wasnt really hooked. I only started watching the show in December, I think but it's already become one of my favorites of all time. I will miss it after it ends

Peggy's resignation was one of the hardest moments I've ever witnessed in Mad Men.
While all these moments are great, there really, really, REALLY needed to be some moments from Don's past here. What sticks in my mind most as incredibly poignant and sad (especially given what happened later) was when Don's brother sees him on the train after Don (or Dick Whitman, really) has supposedly been killed in action.
Yes -true! You have to be a sick and twisted soul to torture your family like that, especially that young kid, so you can guess what sort of a narcissist, don draper was in his soul

Honestly the scene where don sees Bert dancing after his death should be top 3 along with the heinz beans pitch between don and meghan, that scene was incredible! Also that scene where hes trippin out and he almost drowns. So many better scenes than this list

A memorable episode for me is when Don takes his family out for a picnic in his new Cadillac. As they get ready to go home, Betty flings all their trash on the ground. They drive off, but the camera stays. And stays. Without a word; it speaks Loud and Clear.

I think Bert Cooper's ghost doing the song and dance with the secretaries should have been number one. I waited for the entire series for Mad Men to pay homage to Robert Morse' musical background. That scene was fantastic!!!

I’ve watched the entire series multiple times over and it’s still just as amazing watching it now as the first time. One of the most polished and greatest tv shows of our time.
I was glued to my seat watching the Hershey pitch scene, phenomenal acting and writing.
Pete finally admitting to Peggy that he truly loves her only to find out that she did at one time love him, had his baby, gave it away and can never love him ever again. Amazing scene!
I was shocked Pete didn't ask any questions about his child. And the scene when he begs for forgiveness so his wife takes him back; I imagined in my head that he would confess to his family on his death bed.
blankenship dying at her desk was amazing, he's lost secretaries in just about every possible way, peggy was promoted, jane had an affair with roger and married him, that phone girl was a ditz and was fired, meg and him got married lol that was just awesome.

When Cooper's secretary dies he says something like "she was born in a barn in 188? and died in the #? floor of a building, she was an astronaut". It was such an eye opener. For example, him and Clint Eastwood were born in 1930/1931. Segregation was an actuality for the first thirty years of their existence! It's mind boggling all the development that a person witnesses in their lifetime.
I was a child of the Sixties, but my parents were the character's ages at the time. And although their situations were somewhat different, their themes were exactly the same. Such a spot on show and always brings me back with a thrill and a chill...
The Carousel Pitch is what made me even bother to watch Mad Men. I get emotional every time I watch it. For me it is one of the greatest moments in TV history.

My favourite show of all time, the sopranos following in close second. People think mad men is boring but I think that ignores its beauty. Mad men was created to reflect the reality of life - some events in life seem mundane at first but time and other people's actions create significance. The growth from season 1 to 7 makes it feel like a new show every season.
I love Sopranos i really do, but after watching Mad Men i have to say it tops it for me.

To me this is one of the best series that I have seen on TV. It touches so many subjects that are of interest from that era: advertising, sexism, racism, homophobia, familyu values, and alcoholism. Not only was the series entertaining but it was a bit educational for me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me, it was.
I also liked about Mad Men that all of the characters had interesting individual stories, all well written and developed and that all of the characters grew throughout the run of series.
This is one of the most consistent and , quality acting ,along with fine storytelling and direction ,one can find in any Series that runs into 7seasons and is able to command gripping attention,kudos to Jon Hamm,and all other actors,for portraying a bygone era beautifully

Hit the nail on the head with the #1 pick. That scene had me completely hooked. Heartfelt, and sold the pitch like nothing else. Made me want to switch careers into marketing and coming up with ad campaigns on my own.

I couldn’t forget the shock of seeing Betty like that. Also realizing that Don was married (to Betty) at the end of episode 1. I was hooked from then on.

A great tribute to an amazing show. So hard to choose a favorite, and you have certainly named most of what would be on my top 5, but if I had to choose one that wasn't on your list, it would be a scene with Don and Sally, where Don takes his kids to see the house where he grew up. The father/daughter relationship between Don and Sally was done SO well in Mad Men, and that you got to watch Sally grow up in real life through the show was a real treat. This scene, along with the Judy Collins song 'Both Sides Now' is both powerful, and sentimental. I re-wound it at least a dozen times the first time I saw it, and it managed to bring tears to my eyes each time.

Betty and Don’s final phone call and Peggy and Don’s last phone call. Both women he loved in different ways. Very emotional scenes. My favorite TV show of all time 🙌

The scene that deserves number one spot in my opinion, is the scene in the last episode where the guy is explaining his feelings of loneliness and his feeling of not being a part of things. It always makes me tear the fuck up, I'll never forget such a wonderful show.

I liked when they are on the phone to each other, and he tells her he loves her - her reaction is priceless. Elizabeth Moss is a great actress.
If you are a marketing professional as I am with an MBA and a DBA teaching marketing at the college level you view Don Draper as iconic, and emblematic of a golden age in marketing.
