I've been struggling with learning how to wetblend. It feels like this may have finally broken the mystique surrounding the technique and I'm going to give it a try!
I believe this is the first time I see a content creator talking about wet bending and actually pointing out that you need to apply the preasure on the BELLY of the brush, not the tip. That is super important, thank you Lyla!
Oh look, I'm revisiting this video just before running a class this weekend on this technique! Thank you, as always, Lyla, for having great explanations that I can use and share!
It took me years to figure this technique out, and just 7 minutes to understand what my brush was actually doing. Thank you for explaining it so succinctly, and Happy Birthday!
I have just started painting miniatures. Your videos are very helpful and make it less daunting to try out new techniques on my own miniatures for the first time. Plus: I love it when your cats are in your videos making lots of noise and getting up to mischief! :D
Oh. My. God. I love this video! Actually showing how the brush moves, and what to look for, and what we expect to see is GOLD!!! We need more videos this detailed!
I have been painting for a long time and never tried wet blending ( I didn't seem to be able to make it work). This is the FIRST TIME anyone has mentioned using the belly of the brush! Thank you so much for this! Also, Happy Birthday!
Wow Layla, you’ve really hit it out of the park with this one! This is the most comprehensive wet blending video I’ve ever seen. I’m subbed to Vince Venturella so that’s saying something.
I have tried wet blending so many times and just not been able to get it right, tried it this evening following your vid here and nailed it first time so cheers very much! Very happy with the results.
Every time I struggle with a technique, you've got a video that just clicks and makes the technique make sense! I've watched so many videos on wet blending, but it remained this big mystery... Until now! Thank you Lyla!
Thanks for this, Lyla! I literally never thought of using bases to practice this, and I’ve been really hesitant to practice on a model. But watching this, something just clicked, and I think I’m going to give it a shot tonight!
Thank you for the informative video, like so many others have said, "this is a game changer for me". It truly is as feathering and blending has been a huge hurdle to jump for me.
Not even thinking about a giveaway... Thank you a lot! I've been painting minis for like... 35(?) years now, and never ever got blending right. And along come you (and those lovely cats!) and there I am - getting the missing link to make my technique work: the BELLY of the brush! Thank you for that most helpful piece of advice!
Lyla you always find a way to explain something I already use on a regular basis and make it so much more understandable. I always find myself feeling like I know the technique better, and therefore get better at it, and I have your wonderful videos to thank for that. Keep up the awesome work!!
Thanks for the tips!! This is something I still struggle with sometimes but I learned something new with this video... most videos you watch on wet blending dont talk about what to do with your brush as you're blending... you did, so yeah, I'm going to try this out now and see if I can get it mastered 🤘🏼
Oh my glob, thank you so much! I absolutely adore how specific you break down every step of the process. I can't tell you how useful that is to someone like me ❤️

First off lets just say: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I'm a Cinco de Mayo baby so mine is right around the corner! I am just starting out in my mini painting adventures and there are so many areas that I would have had issues tackling (wet blending among them) but after watching such a detailed video filled with such great tips and advice I feel much better about trying each one. I've watched so many of your videos and learned so much from them. Now that the minis I ordered have arrived I can begin my adventure knowing that you and your videos are here in case I run into trouble and need a refresher course. Thank you!
Fantastic vid! I've been finding wet blending pretty challenging. The tip of the brush belly, and even the type of paint being used wasn't something I'd consider. Going to try making some changes to how I'm doing the blends based on your tips
Great video! Not enough tutorials cover how to actually control your brush. I learned quite a bit from this and will definitely try the practice on primed bases. Golden makes a line of acrylics called "Open acrylics" that are acrylics with a ~3 hour working time and what I've started using almost exclusively. While you don't need to use their paints, you should try using the Open gel medium. It's basically the binder they use in their paints that has built-in extender. You can mix it with regular acrylics to get quite a bit more time so you can blend, but not have to wait the 3 hours for it to dry as if you mixed it with their Open paints. Open gel medium does take some getting used to, because it behaves more like oil where you have to glob it down then spread it like butter. One of the easiest ways to get acclimated with it is to mix it with inks, coat a model in the mix, then use swabs to remove excess paint off the surface. It's similar to doing the oil wash technique and will create some nice blends. You'll still have some working time, too, if you're quick enough. Then you can do some more feathering on top.
Happy Birthday! I bought the base set of Pro Acryl after watching your video a couple weeks ago. I loved the paint, and ended up buying the whole set, it is so much easier to work with. I'm a very slow painter, but I was unknowingly fighting with the paint a lot so Pro Acryl has really help speed things up, and made it feel like less of a chore. Thanks Lyla
That was the easiest to understand explanation of wet blending I've seen (clearly the art professor in you showing through). Now off to my FLGS to buy some extra bases for practice.
Oh damn I think I finally get what I've been doing wrong so far ... I've always used the tip of the brush trying to blend. That makes so much more sense!
Hello, and Happy Birthday!!!!! I have been skulking around your videos for a bit. I enjoy how well you explain the techniques and tools. You are very talented and I look forward to seeing more of your content more regularly.
Oh I want to try this, you make it look so easy. Good idea to test it on a blank base or even piece of paper! Might also help me decide on what colors to use hehe Happy Birthday!
I’ve been scared to try this because for some reason I thought I had to learn/practice on minis. This is awesome and is definitely a new technique I’m going to try now. Thanks.
Great video I've never really gave wet blending a go because I found it intimidating but you made it look easy enough with the way you go about it and have inspired me to give it a proper go
I really didn't like wet blending with acrylics until I spent some time working with oil paints. Having the chance to practice wet blending without the time pressure made it so much easier when I was doing it with acrylic paints later on.
Great video. Wet blending is a technique that I have been wanting to learn, but have been way to intimidated to try. I might watch this a few more times before giving it a go. Ty!
You just solved the issue I was having trying to wet blend. I always used to use to tip of the brush leaving ugly brush strokes but now I know to use the belly of the brush I should be able to wetblend easily now 😁 ty so so so much
I've been doing some wet blending on my Chaos Space Marines pauldrons in the last three years and gotten good with it. This helps elaborates some more on the wet blending technique, it's something to think and explore about the paint brushes more. Have a good birthday Lyla! Hope you get something special to paint. 🎉
after years of searching.... finally i found an amazing blending tutorial
By the God Emperor, after watching dozens of videos on the subject I finally found one explaining how wet blanding work! Thank you so much.
That's some great tips, I don't think anyone else has actually explained that you should put more pressure on the belly when blending 😊
This is the best explanation of wet blending I've seen so far. Most miss the part about blending using the belly of the brush!
This is by far the best guide to wet blending I have seen, I am keen to give this a try now. Thank you!
That means a lot!
You have explained this process better then any other content creator Iv seen. Thank you, il need to start practicing!
Straight forward and very thorough, fantastic video and tutorial. thank you
Definitely one of the most beginner friendly lessons on wet blending I have ever watched! Thanks for adding your amazing voice to the hobby!
This video is going to be watched about a dozen times so I can finally understand how to wet blend correctly. Thank you!
An ultra-concentrated master class. Thank you so much.
I think I'm going to give wetblending another go. Thanks for the painting lesson and the tip to use primed bases to practice with
I've been struggling with learning how to wetblend. It feels like this may have finally broken the mystique surrounding the technique and I'm going to give it a try!
A Little hint...try to figure out how change the angle of the brush change the results!
Wet blending is one of my favorite techniques, but some of these techniques were still new to me!
I believe this is the first time I see a content creator talking about wet bending and actually pointing out that you need to apply the preasure on the BELLY of the brush, not the tip. That is super important, thank you Lyla!
49 Seconds... 49 SECONDS! And I understood why I struggle. That is a record. Thanks so much! Can't wait to get painting again tonight!
Oh look, I'm revisiting this video just before running a class this weekend on this technique! Thank you, as always, Lyla, for having great explanations that I can use and share!
It is the BELLY!! i was so struggling with wet blending without knowing why. Now there is at least the chance that I not simply suck.
This is one technique I’ve not tried yet, but it’s definitely on my ‘need to learn asap’ list. This video was super helpful.
It took me years to figure this technique out, and just 7 minutes to understand what my brush was actually doing. Thank you for explaining it so succinctly, and Happy Birthday!
Wet blending is the next big step for me, thanks for the overview and cutting right to the process.
You and Ninjon are just slaying with making this kind of stuff approachable.
Great tutorial. Thanks for more solid content.
I have just started painting miniatures. Your videos are very helpful and make it less daunting to try out new techniques on my own miniatures for the first time.

This really gives me a deeper look into the techniques. Thanks for putting it in clear terms. And Happy Birthday!!!
Wetblend along with edge highlights are the ones that i struggle the most with,so thanks for this video since it explains things very easily for me.
Very few GOOD wet blending tutorials out there. Great in depth explanation and easy to understand. I'll definitely be giving this a try.
I’ve been looking for a good wet blending video, this might be the winner for me so far! Thanks for the content!
This was the most helpful video on wet blending and feathering that I have seen
Amazing, all of those minute technique details I haven't heard anywhere else made all the difference to my blending :D
The wet blending tips here are FANTASTIC. It’s been something that’s been really eluding me and your advice here is really clear and concise!
This is probably the best tutorial I've seen on these techniques!

Happy birthday! I learned wet bleeding before I knew what it was. Pre-TH-cam era. I just tried to mix paint on my mini and it worked like a charm.
As silly as it sounds, I hadn't thought to try wet blending on a blank base for practice.
Thank you and HAPPY BIRTHDAAAAYYYY!!!
Making it look easy enough that I will have to finally try to wet blend. Happy Birthday!

Your videos are great! As a non mini painter you have the ability to make even me understand these techniques…. Thx!
Great advice about using the belly of the brush and not the tip. Happy birthday and good luck to everyone!
Wet blending has been one of my pet peeves lately so I will try to give it another go! Thanks for the tips!

Happy birthday!! I’m just getting into wet blending and all that business so I’ll definitely be watching this one more than once
That figurine is looking really awesome love the colour palette you used
the pauses between different points, with music briefly increasing in volume, is very helpful to seek back and forth in the vid
I’ve been scared to try this because for some reason I thought I had to learn/practice on minis. This is awesome and is definitely a new technique I’m going to try now. Thanks.
I tried this technique a few times, with varying success. But this video helped me understand more clearly what I did wrong. Thanks 😀
your wet blending are totally awsome and i will apply your technics next time i paint and need blending, thanks for all these good advises.
This was a fantastic video. Probably the clearest explanation I’ve seen. Thank you
I absolutely love your work and I'm learning quite a bit from you. Thanks for all that you do.
Thanks for the feathering technique. I finally solved my dilemma by your suggestion to use longer belly brush. 👌
This is a really accessible way into this type of blending. Awesome video and happy birthday!
Just tried this on my first ever mini and it worked 😱 thanks so much!
Practicing on primed bases is such a great idea! It's so simple but makes so much sense! Thank you!
