- Talisman is one of the original gateway tabletop games originating almost forty years ago from the hallowed halls of proto-Games Workshop. The fifth edition features beautiful new hero models and an easy to follow rulebook for those looking to get players to the table in an accessible and exciting way for the firs time.
Thanks to Hasbro for the complimentary copy of the box to review.

I love classic 80s fantasy art as much as the next guy, but man 5ths art looks so detailed! Really lets the imagination going! The closer art being opposite to you makes sense since its easier to flip the art in your head since its closer, while art further away from you makes sense to be the one thats in your correct orientation. Def getting this versio!
You're a smart guy, clearly picked up some flashy tricks, but you made one crucial mistake. You forgot about the essence of the game. It's about the cones
Haven’t played this since the 80’s, and back then it had an issue of not quite ever ending so we ended up playing Drakborgen (that GW released as DungeonQuest later) because that game sure as heck had a clear concise end. :D
Glad to see it’s still around for when someone needs a day or two to kill. ;)
Thanks for the review and for offering such a clear and concise evaluation not just going through the rules
Judging by Ash's complexion in this video, he is either very excited about this game, or things are getting hot in Canada.
Talisman is so fun but man, I could not imagine playing it with the old board game. More than happy to play it over 4 hours on steam with everything automated.
Neat. I’m going to share this with my son and see if it piques his curiosity.
My dad taught me this game 20 years ago when I was 11 years old. Your son will probably at least remember you trying to play this for many years.
The death wizards heroes ideas for the minis is actually really damn good too I'll use them for that haha
Yes, paint the minis Ash! Paint them now!
Saturday morning reviews! 🥳🥳🤩
Very excited about this - preordered it immediately when I found out about it. Played 1st edition when I was a kid and this is the first new edition since I got back into the hobby in 2020… this is pure nostalgia goodness for me! Imagine I’m going to be all over the expansions too. Will you do a let’s play at some point?
A new version of a classic game!
Definitely preordering this , I've been waiting for it on amazon!
Best game to play if you have a bunch of gamer buddies together and nothing planned or a planned session falls apart. Break out Talisman!
Talisman is one of my favorite games. I may have to pick this up once my FLGS stocks it.
Really pretty edition. I won’t buy it probably, just because of the amount of money I have spent on my incomplete 4th ed and absolute lack of trust I have in this IP but it does look way better
Art looks great!
Wait GW is part of this? Can we get a new version of Space Crusade?
I’m actually not sure what the ownership is there.
No toad miniatures? 0/10, literally unplayable
It's garbage!
You don’t have Lego’s? Lego sets nowadays have little golden toads 🐸 in them. Just grab these lol.
no spoilers, but first expansion!
Exciting 😀
Wait … Avalon Hill is still a thing??
its just like Atari, a skin suit. Hasbro just sits on good IPs that I wish to play and are out of print
Not sure I like the new board art. Maybe just because I'm used to the old art though
What no monk? Pssh.
At least this is better than the edition (forgot which) based on WHF which had a Skaven character who's main ability was being immune to the siren (along with other non-humans) and could take the giant rat, skaven and rat ogre as followers. Funny bit and typical GW QC was that there were no skaven or rat ogre monsters.
Wow they removed the two coolest character. the minster and the druid. trash. art looks amazing though
Would this be ok for a 6 year old to play?
I'd say Talisman is about as complicated as something like Monopoly, so if you've played that you can probably judge this. Depends on how good at reading they are etc. Imo I'd say it's more for players 10+. The other main consideration is that games usually take hours to play, so maintaining interest over that period might differ (even for adults tbh, lol).
@iantellam9970 how is the playtime of this edition? I have a 6 year old as well but we play lots of board games some 1-2 hours.
… Hasbro is still using Avalon Hill for something? And of all things, they did a licensed product? This had to have been part of the MTG 40k deal.
Um......Heroquest
@@dextersamson8286 Wasn't that kickstarter? Wasn't that owned in partnership Milton Bradly? Hasbro already had already access to. the MB catalog. This is new. This wasn't out of control of GW until...(checking Board Game Geek) ... This edition. It's always been under GW's control. This is a first.
Thanks for this! Dropping in to invite you to take a look at my Talisman Alliances: Fate Beckons unboxing on my channel.
is that AI art? it looks so generic
wow, I can't belive you endorce this game! Oh well, to each their own, but for me this is a horribly outdated game that boils down to a single die roll for your move and then sitting around for hours upon hours.... I think anyone who introduces this to new players are sure to do them a big disfavour... Sure, I loved this game as a kid, but we know so much better now... I am utterly dissapointed they just repulished this old piece of crap instead of actually putting some effort into it, re-designing it and updating it's mechanics to make it at all playable.
Previous version is so much better. You get more in the box and the layout is superior. All they had to do is to re-release 4.5 version and they would get free money.
The board size is better in the 5th edition. It actually fits on my table and I like that more than the 4th--plus, I'm looking forward to newer/different expansions.
Just great, I literally just finished painting my last 4th edition model, at least it was fun. :)
