Lori, this fitting method takes a lot of the fear out of pants for me. They're still not my favourite things to sew, but now I feel like there's a better chance something might work out.
Hi Janine! Your cargo pants turned out so nice! You did a fantastic job on all the pockets. I like them all, with the gusseted side pocket being my favorite. I love all the fun labels you used - it makes me think I should get more sizes and varieties for my projects. Thanks for sharing your Top Down Center Out fitting process. It was very helpful! How nice you already have so many tops to go with your new pants 🙂
Great vlog Janine! Really appreciate you taking us through some of the fitting. Your clothes are darling and look fabulous on you. Was fun to see the many options you have to go with your new pants. Pretty overwhelming as a sew to me but you probably took me a couple of steps closer. xx Karen
I love those pants! The color is so pretty. When I relocated to Colorado I was amazed that everyone always wore jeans. It was discouraging since I didn't even own a pair. I'll give these a try.
Sandra, I laughed at your comment. A few of us had this exact conversation yesterday. It's the same thing here in Calgary. Plenty of people wear jeans absolutely everywhere - even to the best restaurants. It's nice to have options other than jeans!
You did a good job, Janine. Fitting is everything! ....... Along with knowing, having that feel for, the silhouette and colour that looks best on you completes the equation. Congratulations, you are having much more success over the past several months. Cheers, cheers and more cheers. J.
Thank you so much! Although I like to slag social media, one of the things I most like about Instagram is being able to see how shapes/patterns/prints look on other bodies. It sure helps to hone in on what might work.
Your pants turned out so well and will got with so many tops in your wardrobe - that’s amazing!! I really liked to see how you went through the TDCO method to fit them. Thank you so much for doing this collaboration with me. I had such a great time! 🇨🇦
These turned out fabulous. With the elastic hem they will be great tick protection for walks in the woods. Great to see how sewing in your colour palette is paying off
Very nice looking cargo pants. You've got lots of things to pair with them, too. I'll have to check out that fitting method. I have lots of trouble making pants fit. I'm a slower sewer, too! Happy sewing!😊
Great video Janine! Love the pants and the style is great on you. That fabric would make a great Coastal Side slit skirt by Pattern Emporium. I made a few last summer and they are a staple in my wardrobe.💕
Thanks, Donna! I just looked at that pattern and yes, I think the lyocell twill that I used would be perfect for the Coastal Side skirt. It's very drapey.
Hi Janine! New subscriber, just came over from Izzy's channel ☺ I love how you've explained your process, thanks for sharing! I've got a Cargo pants pattern that is all printed up and languishing in a corner - watching both your videos has reminded me haha. Colorado gets quite a bit of spring snow, too. It looks so much prettier on the color that's coming through than the mid-winter browns and grays. Happy sewing!
Welcome, Lynn! Thanks so much for subscribing! I know that the weather in Colorado is very similar to ours as you have chinooks, too. At the moment, it's a beautiful clear morning and the snow looks so beautiful because it's still white. But the brown, grey, everything-looks-dead time of year is depressing and it's good to throw some spring colour at it 😉 Hope you're encouraged to sew your cargo pants.
I think next time I make some slacks, jeans, I'm going to try this fit method. Your cargo pants are fantastic, on trend, but I think still timeless. It's such a versatile style. I made the Itch to Stitch cargo pants, can't remember the name of them, a few years ago, and love them. Unfortunately, they are just a bit short, and it drives me crazy. I have another pair cut out ready to sew. I do like the pockets on your version better, especially that zippered pocket. I should be cutting out my entries for Sewfrugal, but I really wanted to see how you fit the pants. I even watched on my TV so I could see it better. And you look absolutely lovely without makeup!
Jennett, you are too kind! 🌸 If you really want good info on TDCO, please check out the Crooked Hem because she has such good videos. Can you make your pants capri or short length? Maybe that can be a Sew Frugal project??
Great pants. Love how they go with so many tops. You mentioned the crotch length in the first TDCO fitting and I’m curious if you did research cargo pant crotch length and shortened the curve on the pants. Love how you mentioned the YT series of TDCO that Crooked Hem did-she is one really smart lady (and great sewist).
Thanks! I was surprised when I saw how many things will work with that petrol colour. The Crooked Hem did such a thorough job of reviewing the process and I definitely would suggest people watch her videos. She studied it, I sort of just hack around. I did not do any research on crotch length for this style of pants but I am going to since I plan to use this pattern again. One of my old sewing books has a diagram of different crotch lengths for things like trousers, slacks, jeans, etc., and before that, I hadn't really thought about it. Those who actually have studied fashion and sewing have a real advantage!
Thanks, Janine! Love the pants on you, I think you nailed the fit! I'm intrigued by the flowered vest you show towards the end. Can you share pattern? Did you do a post about the vest?
Thanks, Sandra! The vest is the Cashmerette Club Murcot Vest. It's supposed to be a puffer vest but I used soft-shell (and I'm in love with that print). I talked about the vest in a couple of videos. In the first, I told a tale of woe about all of the stupid things I did when sewing it (like making it in soft-shell), and in the second I finally had it finished. It was torturous (all my own fault) but now that it's done ... 💖😍 First ... th-cam.com/video/ZMJHxezxpd8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5FM35Rjz5tY_U4gk Second ... th-cam.com/video/FaElZjbOevg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0ttYBka9PlNkHPiY
@@JanineSews Thanks so much for directing me to the appropriate posts. I really enjoyed reading about your adventures sewing this vest. I agree that the fabric is beautiful, and it looks fabulous on you! Enjoy wearing it!
Hope, thank you for watching! I got the fabric at Rick Rack Textiles here in Calgary. Here's a link to this fabric (lyocell twill): www.rickracktextiles.com/products/lyocell-twill-6oz?_pos=2&_sid=d1a0b2e2a&_ss=r
Absolutely love the pants!
Absolutely love the pants and such a versatile colour. ❤
Thanks, Andrea! I was surprised that the colour goes with so many things in my closet. Good surprise 😁
I forgot about this method of fitting. Thank you for highlighting it. You are going to get a lot of good out of those pants. Very nice.
Lori, this fitting method takes a lot of the fear out of pants for me. They're still not my favourite things to sew, but now I feel like there's a better chance something might work out.
Blue is such a nice color on you and what a great job on your pants.
Thank you so much, Vicki!

You did a great job fitting these...I am impressed how well you are doing at keeping to your color palette.
Thanks, Martha! I'm trying to say NO to fabric unless it works with a few things. Not always successful, but it's progress 🤣
I love your pants. I must admit that I didn’t give these much thought when they came thanks to your video I am going to add them to my sewing list.
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you so much, Karen! ❤️Pants are a big job - like anything, it's one seam at a time but there can sure be a lot of seams.
Perfect pants addition to your wardrobe, they turned out wonderful.
Thank you, Cathy!

Lots of hard work, Janine, but clearly worth the effort!!
Thank you! I'm just waiting for the snow to melt so they can be worn 😁
I can’t imagine making pants. I have trouble fitting tops. But I keep trying. 🤣 Great video!!
Lynette, they are both difficult! 😁
Janine, your pants look fantastic on you and they go with everything you displayed. Way to go 😊👏👏
Thank you so much!

@JanineSews I thought about making them into shorts but the pockets are in the way. It would make thr shorts a very weird length.
Could you take off or shorten the pockets? I guess it depends on where the pockets come from - if they're on the side or like jeans pockets.
Great pants. Love how they go with so many tops. You mentioned the crotch length in the first TDCO fitting and I’m curious if you did research cargo pant crotch length and shortened the curve on the pants.
