    I'm having a blast digging into Luna. Just exported a bunch of Pro Tools sessions as AAFs and recreated them in Luna, so easy! The instruments sound great, the workflow is easy and flexible, and the UI is beautiful. Bravo UA - thanks to you all for the excellent work!!!

    UA kind of nailed it for the dessert island music edit features here, especially for an initial release. I was able to do almost all of my normal edit workflows on the first try; the muscle memory for those of us coming from PT made the learning curve almost zero, and there's a few things I actually already like better. Edit groups is either the one big hole, or maybe I just haven't found it. Can easily select across multiple tracks, but this is cumbersome for drums. I am so excited to see where this platform is 2 years from now. My guess is I will only be using PT for video post work, Ableton for loop based songwriting, and Luna for all other traditional/multi-performer music recording. I can already see how much faster I can work for this type of music recording.

    I've been spending just a little time with Luna now and I enjoy it a lot. It feels nice with the tight integration with my Apollo and the user interface is very enjoyable. I currently produce in Ableton and mix in Studio One (previously Pro Tools), but I would love to both produce and mix in Luna - not having to move between DAWs which is always a hassle. The main features that I miss which I hope to see in Luna eventually are: 1) reverse audio clip (probably not a complicated feature), 2) sidechain, 3) browse/search for samples, such as the library in Ableton or similar.

    With regard to moving clips, is there a keyboard command, as in Pro Tools, to nudge a clip by very small increments such as samples, or 1-10ms? I regularly use this function to correct slight timing errors which are very difficult to fix by dragging. Thank you for a great system!

  • @madness8556
    @madness8556 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's great to see that Protools like slip and shuffle functions are included but surely I don't need to use a key command each time I want to do a shuffle type edit, such as when I'm editing an interview and getting rid of unwanted gaps and pauses? I've ditched Protools due to Avid's corporate fascist subscription plans and am currently researching other DAW a with comparable intuitive audio editing capabilities as is featured in Protools. I have Logic and whilst I love it's MIDI side, it's audio editing side is terrible IMHO, hence why I'm checking out these Luna videos. Keep up the great work.

    Interest PEAKED ! couple of questions tho ..
    Can you print tracks in place ? So you can export tracks individually /save Dsp or enjoy higher sample rate UNISON processing before sampling down ? I use unison heavily especially with my Townsend mics and 3 APOLLOs and noticed that a higher sample rate makes a ridículos diference .. can I track a whole session on 96 and then print tracks individually with all the processing I can manage included running 96 down to 44/48 for further mixing ?

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Use Mixdown function, then drag the files back in for the first 2. No need to do any of that. Track at 96, then simply change the sample rate on your Apollo (bottom bar of LUNA) and LUNA will take care of all the converting for you.

    It looks really good, my only concern is that I cannot do a “save as”.
    Normally I will call my mix revisions mix 1, mix 2, mix 3 and so on, and I can always go back to previous revisions saved as “mix something” but this means I will have to undo for hours in Luna. Just can’t see the idea behind the auto-save?

    I'm having trouble importing audio. Drag and Drop and Import from files results in an error that reads one of the following errors:
    ASSERT: false
    FUNCTION: GetStemFormat
    FILE: Strg_AudioFormatReader.cpp
    LINE: 151
    ASSERT: false
    FUNCTION: GetBytesPerSample
    FILE: Strg_AudioFormatBase.cpp
    LINE: 117
    ...I have searched for this error but can't find anything about it online. I also made sure Luna is checked in the mic enabled section of security and privacy (in system preferences) as certain forums suggest to do. The file format I am trying to import is wav 24bit files, but I have tried mp3s and that also does not work. I'm using a 2022 Macbook Pro.
    Please help me find a solution as I would love to use Luna, but can't do so if importing files is impossible. Thank you!

    • @markporo
      @markporo ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay...I believe the issue is because I was trying to import/ drag the files from dropbox. When I copy and paste the file to my desktop, it allows me to import the file into the project. Either LUNA doesn't like dropbox or there is an issue with the file location in regards to dropbox that LUNA doesn't like. This is not something I've ever had to deal with when working in Logic so it didn't cross my mind initially. It does make sense though and I probably should have thought of it sooner. Hopefully a future update of LUNA will fix this issue entirely. I'll leave my findings here in case someone else has this issue in the future. :)

    How does Luna reference the audio in the session? Is there an audio files folder that travels with the session that the project draws from, like in Pro Tools?
    Additionally, say I import audio into the session. Do I need to bring that audio into an audio files session folder that is attached to the project in order to bring that session up on a different computer, or is it automatically saved with the session when you import it?
    I apologize if I'm not being clear with my questions. Thanks in advance for any help!

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Super easy. Create new Versions with Control \ or let LUNA do it for you if you record with Loop on. Then use Shift Up/Down to cycle through the takes, and C and V to copy/paste to a comp Version. Hope this helps.

      @@UniversalAudio This is the one feature that keeps me from switching to LUNA from Logic Pro. This style of comping feels like the early 2000s... I used to record with Logic and Digital Performer back in the day where comping was cut and paste. When Logic released the expandable comps with swiping to select which version you want, it sped up editing by at least 3x... otherwise, I would love to have the ARM processing feature. But, for now, I'm going to stick with using the UA Console and Logic.

      @@UniversalAudio I got it figured out. In my old DAW I could select all of the tracks (cmd A) and wherever the playhead was parked in the beats/bars ruler I could use command B to split them. But in Luna you have to actually click into one of the track lanes to activate the selections in order to separate.
