Now I know why it says in the bible that it's easier for to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of heaven. Look at what gold can cause people. Greed!! Enough to seriously injure a person. Great episode of Bonanza.
The story alone makes you outraged! Beating up on an old man for what you truly believed belonged to him and the beating speeded up his death. The biggest greedy and his associates paid in the long run also. Hell have a wide space.
Dennis, God doesn't mind if we r rich . What he hates is that we have the love of money more than we love him & his son jesus & his holy scriptures. 3 fine examples of wealth in the bible . Abraham & his flocks. Read how big they were. King Solomon & his wealth. Where Solomon betrayed God wasnt with $$$ it was his disobedience in allowing pagan gods 2 be worshipped in the Holy Land. Even 2day the Jews worship pagan gods & they aren't aware of it. Doubt me ! Then Read in the book of Revelation ch 2 . They call themselves jews & r not, they r in the synagogue of satan . Revelation also repeats this a few ch later. There a no of reasons God states this. It took me yrs 2 figure out. And lastly Noah.. the Bible doesn't state the cost.. but the Ark was huge . How much did it cost Noah 2 build the Ark. There is a Replica of the Ark built by Christians down in Tennessee... pretty sure l have the state correct. Go check out the size of it. One more 4 u. The region of Judah was also wealthy. Just read the old testament & see how many flocks they used 4 the sacrifice(s) each week. Cattle Sheep. Goats & Birds. Add them up over a week & a month & a yr . Add in the feast & festival sacrifices. U get my drift. So its the condition of a mans heart b4 God that matters 2 God. Its about our nature & character. Hope this helps . Kind regards Robert
Mining, mining, all for money and wealth and at what cost - human life, dust, wastage, pollution leaving the trail of climate change for the present and future generations to mitigate or else, pay the consequences. Thank you Bonanza for keeping the Ponderosa unpolluted and naturally clean and for teaching that greed doesn't pay.
@@tedhardulak7698 Because life isn't always happy and positive. Commenter just noted that it is sad these great actors are gone. At least we have them preserved on video, etc.

It was so true that when u were rich people would come to u and wanted to be friends🤦♀️ If u were not rich, u were be despised and even accused of stealing something that u didnt even touch. I had been through the experience so I felt real upset watching this episode. In this world, there were not many people like Cartwrights who would stand up for u.
Beating up an Old Man, Disgracefull. Then the so called Big Wig pays Ben a visit. Didn't take long 4 Ben 2 sort him out with B.W's previous history on his super poor mining atrocities. The buggers using all sorts of $$$ dangling methods
If what they did to Guss messing with him that mean deceitful way just for laughs but do it to them it's the end I say do it I love that scripture that reads "do unto others as you have them do unto you"
The greed of some people. Shasta already super rich and resorts to having Guss beat up and other underhand tactics. Basically gives up everything in the end. One of the most common themes I saw in Gunsmoke and Bonanza episodes is how greed and vengeance destroy people. I remember a Gunsmoke episode where a girl wanted to escape the way station she and her relative lived/ worked at. Turned down a ride from that guy and even tried to have that other dude killed. In the end she ended up stuck there with nothing. Back to Bonanza, one of my favorites is an early series one I think called The Hanging Posse. Yes, the widower had every right to be unhappy about his wife being murdered but he too became the same kind of monster in the end. Like Adam, said “two men dead, a father separated from his son, and a friendship broken”. Speaking of which Adam would have been a great part of this episode.
Seems like In season 8, most of the episodes Joe is the main actor. Hoss doesn’t have the energy that he had in previous seasons. Ben since he is older and has less experience than the other two these reasons give Joe the opportunity to be the main character.
IF he had said, " Drinks are on me", wow he would be a wet man. Start with beer, move to wine, try any other booze. But he did not say, "Drinks are on me." 3-13-2022
63 still watching and loving it!
❤ great show watched it growing up and still watching it at 60.
Another good episode of Bonanza , good true story aboute what greed can do to a person .

Well said from little Joe at the end. The last laugh was on them that were hungry for the gold. Excellent show.
