Yes, it certainly takes a lot of meticulous tracking of what a number (like age) was when and what it has to be at any given point in time as the story unfolds. I thought Mercy was always the same age as McCree, and they both got into Overwatch at very young ages. McCree for his life of crime and Mercy for being a prodigy. Originally her age was 34 when it first appeared on the website and they aged her up after Recall. League does a way better job on their wiki having separate tabs for their champions' old and new lore.
also in overwatch 2 announcement cinematic, Tracer said to Brigitte "brigitte is that you? oh my you've grown!" why would she say that if their age gap is only 3 years old? tracer (28) brig(25)
Only reason I see why they would change Mercy's age to 39, is so the forced ship with Phara doesn’t seem so weird. I mean, they go so far as to remove positive Gency lines from the game and literally worship a certain Twitter account that is obssesed with PharaMercy ship. Changing the age isn't such a big deal compared to what is going on. And if that was done by some nobodies from dev team, that would be one thing, but literally some leader for some branch of the story is doing this publicly...
She's been 37 for years. The age gap hasn't changed in years. I'm not commenting on any changing in voicelines, but the only change there has been in the ages of Pharah, Mercy and Genji is that they, like all other characters, have become 2 years older between OW1 and OW2. Pharah was 32 during OW1. Mercy and Genji were both 37.
@@katxiii3660mercy was definitely older than 37 she was hinted at being around Ana's age idk if that was also a contradiction with something else but so much of her lore said her nanobots made her look like decades younger than she should

This is so gross to push for this couple when you realize Mercy knew Pharah as a toddler/kid and they want to make her dating a co-worker's kid you knew when you were an adult???? Now that I think about it. Why is Kiriko so young? In her animated short, she clearly just recently became a young adult. But Hanzo has been a much more mature adult since his animated short.
what makes that even funnier is that its confirmed that hanzo killed genji when he was 18 or so. Which would make genji 16 at the time. But with kiriki being 21 now this would mean that genji would have been dead and hanzo would have left the clan by the time she was born. She could never have met them

Blizzard keeps tripping on their own feet and continues to fall on their face. It is sad to see the once respected gaming company that MANY wanted to work for, turn into this shit show...
The way they could salvage this, would be to say that the characters currently in the game are picked from a specific time in their life that best represents their peak embodiment of who they are/have become - so not necessarily that all characters in the game as depicted match with that age in a linear timeline, but rather a case of: "Kiriko as we want to depict her in game, is best matched at her age of 21, so that's the version of her that we will put in the game", and "Genji and Hanzo came into their true selves later in life, so we will pick them from later in the chronological timeline to put into the game". This may conflict a bit with some of the in-game dialogue and banter they throw around, but hey Blizz fucking dug this hole already, I'm just making the hole look clean now that it's there.
Hmm, I would have used time travel as excuse of why they happen to be peak versions of themselves from different timelines, but that would open more problems then solve them XD
The best part about not playing Blizzard "games" anymore is the fact that you get to sit back and watch them do stupid shit over and over again, without it actually affecting you in a negative way. All the amusement, none of the pain.
I'm genuinely puzzled by Blizzard's apparent indifference to crafting an immersive experience for their players. The consistent shortcomings in their storytelling are nothing short of perplexing.
As far as how big an issue it is, I think it's more that it's a symptom of a larger problem. They clearly dont care if they get such painfully obvious things wrong.
It’s kinda funny because since blizzard is very much against Overwatch porn, they had the perfect opportunity to make her age under 18 as some sort of “fuck you” to the porn. But they can’t even get that right.
@@kyubbikcat2281they should have made her 14 if it was out of spite to make the porn makers dirty, but blizzard couldn't do that because they're all child predators anyway
The tragedy of Blizzard is they could have just not. They never needed to cannonize the age/birthdays. This entire conversation was avoidable lol. This type of thing would only ever cause issues.
It's worth pointing out that some of these characters already had canon ages for a long time as you can see them in the animated short "recall" (released 7 years ago). There Mercy is 37, Tracer 26, Reinhardt 61, Genji 35, Torbjörn 57 and McCree 38.
13:29 no idea why people said this was zarya. The character’s name is Emrye (not sure one the spelling) and has a few established things in Overwatch lore.

9:11 One of the few series I've seen with long running interconnecting stories that actually keeps itself straight and respects your knowledge of the game world is the Trails series
Mercy should be among if not the oldest of the hereos, literally one of the few big pieces of lore we have is that being constantly exposed to her healing equipment makes her age significantly slower. So having her be slighly older than Pharah is just stupid.
Yeah a big thing for me buying Overwatch "1" was that, it was a brand new universe and had tons of lore, there was a huge conflict going on in the background or brewing after the war, the characters were developed for the first overwatch team, new ones were joining, but others were joining Talon too, there were tragic and interesting stories like Widowmakers story and goofy nonsense like winston and it was just all around fun. Then they started messing with it with non-in game related things, like forcing changes on characters to placate minority groups. THEN when overwatch 2 came around, instead of adding OW themed/universe skins in the battlepass and events, they just started pushing DEV inserts like the DnD exploration crap. Don't get me wrong, I like dungeons and dragons, played it for years with friends until this year. But oh my god does it feel out of place. I hoped for development of the lore not retarded poor quality skins or over expensive nonsense.
HOTS is BY FAR still my fav moba of all time, I really hope they bring back support for it. Nothing is nearly as fun. It's truly a unique moba with the map rotations and learning builds instead of overwhelming amount of shop items. I don't know what moba to go back and try again if it ever shuts down tbh.
@TruFalco I agree, if your a hardcore player you earn so much stuff more than you can keep up with, and because you NEVER feel purchase pressure, that obligates me more to buy boosts or cool skins I want quicker. Or when it was still happening buying the new hero if I didn't have enough. But I could easily earn anything in the game. That's how it should be done. Best moba structure by far in every way imo. 👏

HotS is unironically the version of LoL or DotA made for people who don't hate themselves. It's legitametly better, and more innovative than any other MOBA
The degree of disarray is tragic, in the truest sense of the word. It has no end, it doesn't stop. The company keeps fucking up in ways that no one can even predict anymore. It's almost cartoonish. Surely no one can be this incompetent. At this rate, sabotage by disgruntled employees slowly starts to become more plausible. How surreal.
I've never even played OW but as someone who's always paid a lot of attention to lore in the games I play this must be so frustrating to players 😔 Like, why are we investing so much time into digesting the lore when the creators clearly aren't paying any attention
the fact that maccree has 3 different ages ranging from 25 to 100+, while at the same time having two different names, i get the feeling that we're talking about two completely different characters
I guess they could explain it with her chest time thingy. Like she's recalled so many times that's her body is actually a few years younger, but that's just me doing head cannon to do the work Blizzard forgot to do.
Apparently, according to the Wayback Machine, at least most of the ages from the OW1 characters are still consistent. On the old PlayOverwatch site they displayed the ages of most characters in their bios, and from the ones I checked most of them are 2 years younger than they are in OW2, set 2 years later. I didn't check everyone, I focused on the heroes with issues discussed in the vid. Only inconsistency I found was Orisa, who was 1 month in OW1 and apparently 1 in OW2 when thanks to them now having birth dates, Mercy is 2 years older despite being born 4 days after Orisa who is only 1 year older. This also doesn't help any inconsistencies stemming from Kiriko or Sojourn or anyone else introduced in OW2, but at least for the OW1 cast their inconsistencies are... consistently inconsistent. Do with that what you will. I checked the Wayback Machine expecting to find wildly varying ages and was proven wrong.
HotS was THE moba. Multiple maps, gameplay focused on teamfights from very early game, many bold gameplay ideas creating truly unique heroes (while LoL players are still blowing a fuse over a untargettable cat), actual fresh ideas in the genre that was stagnant for decades... to bad it was killed by Blizzard.
18:00 I disagree with the person that said this isn't a big deal. Yes, there are worse things to make mistakes on and get wrong. But the story of a most pieces of media does matter; a lot. Specifically it matters here because Blizzard has tried to create some backstory and lore to go along with the game. If Overwatch was just a bunch of quirky characters that fought in an arena, then sure. Their ages wouldn't matter much. But there is supposed to be a narrative that people can discover and emotionally invest themselves in. That's why the reaction to the ages making no sense is bad. Blizzard wanted people to be invested in the characters they created, but now they can't be bothered to give them the thought and care they are asking players to engage with. People undervalue narrative in games, I think. If you think of some of the best games in existence, especially ones that have a story you can really sink into; think about how they progress and unveil the narrative to you. You get to know the characters, the world, the politics, the religions, the interpersonal drama. It gives flavor to the game. And the best narratives in games hook you in and make you want to see them through to the end. Narrative might not be as instantly impactful on player experience as something like bugs, or bad controls, or a bad aesthetic; but it still matters just as much to the people who end up really diving into the world.
50% of overwatch's appeal is their superior character design. They look cool, are unique and so on. The least blizzard could do is to give out consistent lore information about them given that they are the biggest selling point of the game
Does anyone know if blizzard employees are being held at gun point or something ? Maybe they are doing this as a call for help? cause there’s no way anyone would sabotage their own games this heavily on purpose
13:20 I wouldn't count that one... an age difference of 5 years can do a lot to a girl's body... Mercy could be 19 in that picture, while Pharah is 14 years old... and there are plenty of 18-19 year old women looking very similarity in maturity as Mercy...
my biggest thing about overwatch2 is that when it was in development they said that owners of overwatch 1 will get 2 for free implying that it would be a paid game to then it turn around into being a free to play game with a battle pass. tbh it sounds like it was the plan from the start using deceptive marketing
I think it's her healing nanobots that keep her looking younger, but she's definitely not as old as Rein and Ana. Ana already had a 12-something year old Pharah when Mercy was still looking like a teenager (Ana origins picture), and Rein looks much older there too. Mercy's parents died in the omnic crisis while she was still a child. The main weird thing about her age is that she became prominent very quickly. She was already a medical genius at 14 or something. But she was definitely not one of the founding members. Those are Soldier, Reaper, Ana, Rein, Torb and Dr. Liao.
I mean being brutally honest here, i think HotS was way better than any kind of Moba including Dota 2, well not "the perfect moba" but at least was kinda interesting and fun and i loved how they payed respect to all Blizzard franchises in there with little details and nods to previous games. I will admit that im not a huge moba player (for the most part i did played like 4 or so years of LoL but it was mainly against bots and some friends from time to time so take that 4 years with a huge grain of salt) but for the little of HotS i played it was pretty fun at the end of the day, shame that Blizzard didnt capitalized hard on it and evolved it even further it could had been an interesting game if they did.
It's really impressive to see a company just create problems out of thin air

I thought Mercy was always the same age as McCree, and they both got into Overwatch at very young ages. McCree for his life of crime and Mercy for being a prodigy. Originally her age was 34 when it first appeared on the website and they aged her up after Recall. League does a way better job on their wiki having separate tabs for their champions' old and new lore.
also in overwatch 2 announcement cinematic, Tracer said to Brigitte "brigitte is that you? oh my you've grown!" why would she say that if their age gap is only 3 years old? tracer (28) brig(25)
"we here at overwatch have heard your complaints, and weve addressed them
finally as per your wishes, we gave everyone an age, welcome back!!!!"
Welp, game fixed then ill buy a premium battle pass right away!.
@@katxiii3660mercy was definitely older than 37 she was hinted at being around Ana's age idk if that was also a contradiction with something else but so much of her lore said her nanobots made her look like decades younger than she should
@@donb7519 The wiki has stated her as 37 since 2016, when her age was retconned by the Recall cinematic (she was 34 before that, so even younger). And I mean, she does look way younger than she is. It's just less noticeable because there's plenty of characters who look young for their ages without any explanation.
This is so gross to push for this couple when you realize Mercy knew Pharah as a toddler/kid and they want to make her dating a co-worker's kid you knew when you were an adult???? (There is a pic showing Phara is like 12 and Mercy is 18)
Like wtf Mercy is a groomer now? I remember people say Pharah was supposed to be around 20-25 ish but changed to push for this porfec relationship.
They need to stop hiring fanfic writers.
@@katxiii3660 ah yes fanwikis known for not having unverified stuff ever also she looks mid30s enough compared to younger heroes like dva and again a large chunk of her lore made it sound like she was as old as ana i swear there were interactions between them to that effect
They straight up just rewrote new lore to contradict old stuff cause I guess this fits better in their plans??? Idk man not worth it imo
Asmon: To be fair, Blizzard was probably thinking, "We haven't fucked up in almost a whole week." 12:31
I'm dead lmao 🤣
Now that I think about it. Why is Kiriko so young? In her animated short, she clearly just recently became a young adult. But Hanzo has been a much more mature adult since his animated short.
what makes that even funnier is that its confirmed that hanzo killed genji when he was 18 or so. Which would make genji 16 at the time. But with kiriki being 21 now this would mean that genji would have been dead and hanzo would have left the clan by the time she was born. She could never have met them
She's met them long enough to steal the shimada mantel.
HoTS was great! It was VERY chill MOBA without overcomplexities like tons of items, with characters from loved IPs etc. It was awesome!
Blizzard try not to make things worse than what they already are (IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGE)
Why is it you spam literally EVERYWHERE on ALL channels that Zelensky is a nazi, and that you want Ukraine to burn and also facist stuff like if russia can conquer ukraine then it is their right. It's so crazy noticing your comments EVERYWHERE and then randomly also seeing you on asmongold videos. Either the internet is smaller than one realizes or you literally post 10 times an hour
they never fail to disappoint
Blizzard keeps tripping on their own feet and continues to fall on their face. It is sad to see the once respected gaming company that MANY wanted to work for, turn into this shit show...
blizzard took images of the ingame characters and asked chatgpt for the ages
They need to give you a job
Blizzard was doing meth not math when figuring this all out.
The best part about not playing Blizzard "games" anymore is the fact that you get to sit back and watch them do stupid shit over and over again, without it actually affecting you in a negative way. All the amusement, none of the pain.
I paid for Overwatch 1, not Overwatch 2. I don't want Overwatch 2, I want Overwatch 1.

>Does Overwatch even have a lore master?
They did. Michael Chu. He quit when he and Kaplan saw what direction Blizzard was taking the game.
I'm genuinely puzzled by Blizzard's apparent indifference to crafting an immersive experience for their players. The consistent shortcomings in their storytelling are nothing short of perplexing.
Probably because all the competent writers either left or were forced out due to politics.
As far as how big an issue it is, I think it's more that it's a symptom of a larger problem. They clearly dont care if they get such painfully obvious things wrong.
We all know why Dva had to be 21....
Because all the best NSFW art is Dva?
It’s kinda funny because since blizzard is very much against Overwatch porn, they had the perfect opportunity to make her age under 18 as some sort of “fuck you” to the porn. But they can’t even get that right.

No wonder they cancelled the PvE. They can't even get the lore right 😂
The tragedy of Blizzard is they could have just not. They never needed to cannonize the age/birthdays. This entire conversation was avoidable lol. This type of thing would only ever cause issues.
"we havent f:d up the whole week..." had me ROFLing all over the place 🤣😂🤣
It's worth pointing out that some of these characters already had canon ages for a long time as you can see them in the animated short "recall" (released 7 years ago). There Mercy is 37, Tracer 26, Reinhardt 61, Genji 35, Torbjörn 57 and McCree 38.
Almost a week without controversy/drama? We do not do that here.😂

13:29 no idea why people said this was zarya. The character’s name is Emrye (not sure one the spelling) and has a few established things in Overwatch lore.

THE HAMSTER IS LEGAL 🎉
Mercy should be among if not the oldest of the hereos, literally one of the few big pieces of lore we have is that being constantly exposed to her healing equipment makes her age significantly slower. So having her be slighly older than Pharah is just stupid.
This is what happens when you hire a team who are only there for a paycheck and do not care about the IP.
With everything we've learned about delivering this game at the level you deserve, it's clear we cannot bother to keep up with the lore.
Blizzard has the hand of midas curse but instead of gold it turns into shit 🤣
The Shitas Curse
Bro it’s the same company that put snoop dogg and Nicky Minaj to semi realistic military shooter
Funniest thing: Since hots was abandoned, it now has a BETTER monetization system than OW2.
I hope they don’t, god knows they’ll screw this game up too
Can people still play some form of HotS?
@Lark88 yeah I still play all the time they just not coming out with new heroes or anything as such because it's no longer supported

@FonzChannel I played a match for the first time since getting back to the states and it took like 4 or 5 minutes for the queue to pop

Multiple maps, gameplay focused on teamfights from very early game, many bold gameplay ideas creating truly unique heroes (while LoL players are still blowing a fuse over a untargettable cat), actual fresh ideas in the genre that was stagnant for decades... to bad it was killed by Blizzard.
wrong, Heroes of Newerth was the best one, but the devs sold their souls and game to shit companies and killed the community.
Overwatch lore is whatever the last dude on the Twitter account says it is, and it's always been thay way.
50% of overwatch's appeal is their superior character design. They look cool, are unique and so on. The least blizzard could do is to give out consistent lore information about them given that they are the biggest selling point of the game
felt like they did this so the devs don't feel weird rubbing one out to their creations in case someone might mistake Kiriko for being under 18
Why would they even care about ages when their rubbing one out to a video game character in the first place lol.
@@wood1066political corectness and wokeness, i mean, this is blizzard we are talking about, they have a diversity chart for character creation

Mercy could be 19 in that picture, while Pharah is 14 years old... and there are plenty of 18-19 year old women looking very similarity in maturity as Mercy...
you should do a tier list or ranking of all past blizzard fups
That's like a 5 hour video and that's just naming the Fups...another 5hrs dealing with the aftermath. It's been long man.
my biggest thing about overwatch2 is that when it was in development they said that owners of overwatch 1 will get 2 for free implying that it would be a paid game to then it turn around into being a free to play game with a battle pass. tbh it sounds like it was the plan from the start using deceptive marketing
I feel like Blizzard is not even trying anymore:(
Take "I feel like" out and there you go
Mercy’s Valkyrie suit keeps her young if I’m not mistaken. Even though her real age should be comparable to Rein and ana
Liao.
It's hilarious that they take more care in establishing their sexualities than they are with their actual ages. 😂
Mei has a voice line , or atleast she did in ow1, where she mentions how good mercy looks for her age
I don't know, I find this hilarious. Imagining a world where these inconsistencies are somehow all true makes me laugh.
Amazing failure by Blizzard
