Could you please explain further about the "pen" knife grip you demonstrated in the begining? I've tried to research about it all over the internet, but this video is the only source i've found about it. It's extremely unorthodox and facinating. What is the advantage of holding the knife that specific way versus other ways?
@@nicholasjonas2505 I know nothing about how it's used in Sanatan Shastar Vidya, but I have seen that grip in one other art. In southern Italy there is a knife system called "la Scuola di Cielo e Meraviglia" which sometimes uses that grip at very close quarters, you can find a channel if you search that name here on TH-cam. It's also discussed briefly in Maestro Roberto Laura's book "The Sword of the People".
I'm a born white American but I've become so enraptured by Indian Traditions, History, and Culture its so amazing and beautiful to me, someday I hope to come there and learn it personally. ❤
I hope you get to train in this art one day. It's a great mixture of our culture and history. What part of the US do you live in? Gurdev tours the US and Canada every year.
I think Gurdev is trying to set up a program where people stay and train with him for 1 - 3 years. If you do it that way then 1-3 years. Otherwise it can take very long. I've been learning from him since 2018 and I'm still very much a beginner in the art.
I would absolutely take a class and further my martial arts understanding of this subject. I am in the New York City area. Also not of Punjabi or Indian descent. Are there any schools or training centers in the metro Tristate. Who would train me. Also where can you purchase the Kada bracelets online. Is it alright and respectful for a non Sikh individual to even where them? Thanks for your reply and the wonderful video lessons. 🙏❤
It's pretty late at night here in India. I'll ask Gurdev all these questions in the morning and reply again. However you do not need to be Sikh or Indian to train with him. Anyone can learn.
Wonderful news. I’m a 51 year old police officer who has been a lifelong student/instructor in various martial arts. I study with Tuhon Bill McGrath in PTK and Guided Chaos which is a self defense system developed from Native American fighting techniques. (Worth a google/TH-cam search). I have experienced some cultural pushback when studying indigenous Martial Arts. On a trip Hawaii I wanted to study Lua but was told it was only for people with Hawaiian ancestry. At your earliest convenience of course. Please let me know how I can further my knowledge and preserve these martial teachings. Now get some restful sleep. Thankfully Bryson.
I just spoke to Gurdev and he will be in san francisco 10 April - 10 may. Then from 10th may to end of June he will be in Toronto. If you're interested you can send me an email on lighthavengoa@gmail.com and I'll send you the contact details for the places he's going. You're very welcome to come train.
While I love the marital arts of this video, all I want to know is what that cute white dog was looking at over the balcony for the first few minutes of this video 😁
Please preserve this art at all cost.
He’s such a store of valuable information. I’ve watched him fence. Very few people can read an incoming attacking line as well as he does.
Well said!
link to the video of him fencing please!!!!!!!
If I were in India, I'd come to learn something. Kshatria way is beautiful.
I am so learning everything you teach as a Sikh who is now 57 and disabled, but i feel proud of my heritage and your teachings. Dabs from UK..x
I’m in America a Black man but I an glad to see someone keeping it real for their Ancient cultures long before the European and such!

Next time Gurdev comes to town I shall ask him to make a video about it. But that will probably be in November
@@lighthavenindia awesome! Thank you so very much for taking the time to consider my many questions. Definitely subscribing!

@andrewk.5575 that's fascinating. Thank you for sharing. Will definitely do some research
Could you pls ask him how to deal with the blood making the knife very slippery and difficult to handle?
Sir loved your content ❤
He is very direct with his words. I like that. Very deadly, as stupid as you want. If you want to go to prison.

Great .
I live in New York. I want to learn
Amazing 😍
:)
What's the name of the text that he mentions around 1:16? I'd love to try and find an English translation of it.
How long do you think one would take to learn shastravidya to atleast get to an intermidate level?

Id love to see some of the grappling

Is sanatan shastra Vidya being taught in Chandigarh somewhere?
Where would i be able to to get those titanium bracelets he has on his right arm?
They're steel. Not titanium. And they're part of Sikh religion

Haha that's Luna. She's the heart of our school.
She was just keeping an eye on her kingdom.
We all serve at her behest 😂

Careful with all that "preserve the culture" talk. These days you get called a lot of choice names for saying stuff like that.
