  • Sanatan Shastra Vidya is an Ancient Indian Art of War. India had the largest variety of weapons in the world. In this video Gurdev Nidar Singh, the last remaining master of this art, takes us through some of those weapons that he carries on his body everyday.
    He talks about both Edged and Impact Weapons.

    He’s such a store of valuable information. I’ve watched him fence. Very few people can read an incoming attacking line as well as he does.

    How long do you think one would take to learn shastravidya to atleast get to an intermidate level?

    • @lighthavenindia
      @lighthavenindia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think Gurdev is trying to set up a program where people stay and train with him for 1 - 3 years. If you do it that way then 1-3 years.
      Otherwise it can take very long. I've been learning from him since 2018 and I'm still very much a beginner in the art.

    Could you please explain further about the "pen" knife grip you demonstrated in the begining?
    I've tried to research about it all over the internet, but this video is the only source i've found about it.
    It's extremely unorthodox and facinating. What is the advantage of holding the knife that specific way versus other ways?

    • @lighthavenindia

      Next time Gurdev comes to town I shall ask him to make a video about it. But that will probably be in November

    I would absolutely take a class and further my martial arts understanding of this subject. I am in the New York City area. Also not of Punjabi or Indian descent. Are there any schools or training centers in the metro Tristate. Who would train me. Also where can you purchase the Kada bracelets online. Is it alright and respectful for a non Sikh individual to even where them? Thanks for your reply and the wonderful video lessons. 🙏❤

      It's pretty late at night here in India. I'll ask Gurdev all these questions in the morning and reply again.
      However you do not need to be Sikh or Indian to train with him. Anyone can learn.

      Wonderful news. I’m a 51 year old police officer who has been a lifelong student/instructor in various martial arts. I study with Tuhon Bill McGrath in PTK and Guided Chaos which is a self defense system developed from Native American fighting techniques. (Worth a google/TH-cam search). I have experienced some cultural pushback when studying indigenous Martial Arts. On a trip Hawaii I wanted to study Lua but was told it was only for people with Hawaiian ancestry. At your earliest convenience of course. Please let me know how I can further my knowledge and preserve these martial teachings. Now get some restful sleep. Thankfully Bryson.

    Careful with all that "preserve the culture" talk. These days you get called a lot of choice names for saying stuff like that.
