Regarding that lost MP Cliffjumper mold, there's a rumour that mentioned that Takara had terminated their contracts with the particular factory that was in charge of the production of MP Hound, MP-45 Bee 2.0 and MP-44, (in response to the chemical fluke that doomed MP Hound's construction) but in the fallout, they weren't able to reclaim the toolings and steel molds needed to produce those figures. Which may also tie-in to how MP Hound, MP-44 and 45 had never been reissued (MP-44S is a different new tooling that features some mild remolding from the vanilla MP-44), and how MP Cliffjumper was leaked but never released. I’m sure we’ll see an even better MP Cliffjumper at some point. Perhaps when we get an MP Bee 3.0. (Since they no longer can produce the MP Bee 2.0 mold)
I remember the instruction book for MP-10 including a little design sketch from the designer for how an MP Huffer could potentially look if Takara decided to give the go-ahead for a wider range of characters to be represented in the MP line, and then they proceded to never make an MP Huffer.
Hoping and praying that MPG Jazz actually happens instead of MP Optimus 4.0. HasTak's on good terms with Porsche, Jazz is the biggest hole in the MP G1 main cast, and they could do something pretty fun with him.
17:40 masterpiece releases have surveys that decide the directions of the figures going forward. ginrai himself actually being a winner in a vote for the next mpg release sometime during 2023. I find the premise of this video flawed in a way. The point of the rebrand is that masterpiece has 100 releases and that's a cool number to end things with. Otherwise nothing has really changed. Every complaint in this video is a complaint that comes from the original mp line, design philosophy hasnt changed, number of releases hasn't changed, release choices havent changed. We didnt loose anything i dont think its business as ususal.
I'd heard somewhere that the "G" in MPG was supposed to stand for "Generations", as in Generation-scale figures at Masterpiece quality. Looking at Raiden next to Legacy Mensaor, the fact that Ginrai is around the same size as SS86 Optimus, and the upcoming Rattrap apparently being about Deluxe size, I can believe it. That'd just annoy me more though, since I imagine Hastak would be less likely to release these figures in the Generations line if they can charge Masterpiece prices instead. I like how that Ginrai looks, but I don't see much they couldn't pull off at Commander pricing and certainly don't want to pay like $300 for him ($500 if you're including Godbomber)
The excruciatingly slow pace of the MP releases is one of the main reasons I don't collect Masterpiece anymore. 2011 was when they finally started doing characters beyond the iconic ones everyone knows about and it opened the door for them to make new figures for every G1 cartoon character if they wanted to, but we still don't have a complete cast of season 1 Autobots when Generations has completed the G1 season 1 Autobot cast three times over the course of what's coming up to 19 years now.
I want to say it's hard to make a judgment call on MPG yet because it hasn't had a "proper" new G1 mold in it, but we're coming up on the third year of MPG and so far it's been a mixed bag. One big complaint so far is scale, but Raiden and Ginrai are both technically Japanese G1 exclusive, so even though their scale is more CHUG-ish that actually was already the case with MP Star Saber. Rattrap seems to still be in-scale with the other BW MPs so that gives some hope that if they got around to making an MPG Jazz or whatever it would be in their former MP scale. On the one hand I want to say that ultimately scale isn't that important, but it's also true that if they all of a sudden change MPG to be more focused on being in-line with CHUG sizes they're going to be losing a huge amount of their audience. But if scale was the only complaint it would probably be dismissed as a nitpick by many. Raiden might be the closest thing to a disaster I've seen in any MP release, official or otherwise. Kibbletastic robot modes and a combined mode looks terrible and barely holds together. It's true the train modes was their focus and they look great, but even if you're a train collector they're a huge gimmick- they both cannot run as a team because despite being all HO scale they use differing gauges (fair enough on accuracy), but more importantly they can't run on anything but straight tracks because they are not designed with turning wheels that normal model trains have! It's a great case of trying to appeal to many people at once and being bad at all of them.
11:22 I have a feeling that MP Bumblebee 2.0 was such utter trash that even the Japanese fanbase hated it, which would explain why they scrapped the alleged Cliffjumper retool
*These toys exist already just not in scale with post Siege stuff but yeah I see your point Bro literally said their priority for a new line is to finish the 84 cast and they just now finally did it with one line last year lol
I've had more fun playing with and collecting Generations toys over most of the Masterpiece toys I have. Generations has a far better variety of character choices than Masterpiece, the transformations aren't overly complicated, and most importantly, the toys don't feel like they'll break if you look at them funny. Generations is giving me characters I want like the Unicron Trilogy cast, yet I can't see Masterpiece even touching those characters in the next decade or two. More relevant to the video, I think the shift from Masterpiece to MPG was an excuse to reset the numbering system. The Masterpiece numbering system got so unnecessarily complicated as time went on that I think it might have been confusing to new collectors. Plus, it's easier to collect for toyline with only a few years of toys with an easier-to-follow numbering system over the 21 year-long behemoth that was Masterpiece.
Raiden was just to compromised from the train modes the combiner is just messy and has some questionable clear plastic use, if you wanted it for the trains just get a model train set. It being the same height as retail combiners is also a bad taste the 3rd party version looks better it’s taller which gives it a presence on a shelf. MPG could’ve been the Takara/japan stuff, MPB could be beast wars, MPC could be classics like your G1, and MPE is the expanded lot of repaints like shattered glass, diaclone, etc. just something to help organize this mess as it’s so random what comes out for what series
With the difficulties (impossibilities?) present in making a Galvatron that is animation accurate in both modes, you'd think he'd be an obvious target for the MP. On the other hand, perhaps Galvatron is absent because of that very difficulty.
I wanted the ginri figure but over 400 canadian I was out just way to much especially for it's size had the KFC been made better ( weak knees ) id go in on that version

Is that why every third party copmpany and their brother were inexplicably making Huffers for a while?!?
Hoping and praying that MPG Jazz actually happens instead of MP Optimus 4.0. HasTak's on good terms with Porsche, Jazz is the biggest hole in the MP G1 main cast, and they could do something pretty fun with him.
Where gonna get Jazz regardless of if the 4.0 happens. Just if Prime happens first, Jazz comes later.
If we get jazz I really really hope we get stepper
@@marzy3891 I'm still waiting for a CHUG Stepper, but that would require a better base Jazz than 86 Jazz.

I really wish Takara makes a MP Waspinator or Tarantulas before it goes under.
watching this made me realise why so many 3p compnies do mp styled figures when takara cant be bothered to do the rest of the 84-85 cast rn
Isn't MPG just a continuation of MP? They didn't want two separate lines and just merged both together.

I would've rather had a mainline Ginrai that was both robots. That was my big disappointment with the Takara Legends Ginrai.
I really hope we get more combiners. I would really like a Masterpiece Menasor
Not the only line needing to finish some gaps:
Windcharger
Powerglide
Seaspray
*These toys exist already just not in scale with post Siege stuff but yeah I see your point
Bro literally said their priority for a new line is to finish the 84 cast and they just now finally did it with one line last year lol

Generations/Legacy and the upcoming Age of the Primes has all but surpassed Masterpiece as a line at this point. The last MP I got was Skids
They will add Ginrai and not the others. Where is Lander, Ranger and Road King? Why not add the other three Autobots to get with Ginrai?

MPG is a clear example of a distinction without a difference. I think Adamas Machina is going to be a much more exciting line.
We were scared of clear plastic used for hinges, and yet the raiden's qc issues come from normal plastic! Also, is fugly

Yeah, so disappointing
Bro they just finally finished the 84 cast post Siege and that comes with some huge asterisks
What are you talking about
He's talking about Masterpiece.
I hope get more characters
Over 100 figures and feels like they have barly done anything new at all
I thought it was Masterpiece Generations
Miles per gallons
