    Learned to work on own BMX as a kid; patch punctures, replace worn grips, pads & tyres, chain tension without tensioner, replace snapped brake cables and jammed/stuck cantilever brake's. Ol man wasn't handy with tools or DIY so had to do most work with the flat spanner that came with bike, old rusty plier's, screwdriver's and a hammer

    Will replacing the cog increase the loudness of sound? Or do you need to change the whole cassette hub? @bigmikebmx

    • @BigBikeBMX
      @BigBikeBMX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The sound comes from the internals on the cassette hub. The cog is just a metal ring so it won’t change sound or loudness. You are correct👍

      I think so. It’s a slight but noticeable difference

    • @Softballcrazy
      @Softballcrazy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Increasing the size of the cog provides more torque. Meaning higher top end speed on flat ground. Doesn’t make pedaling uphill easier. Just the opposite. Theoretically it should also get that front wheel up easier and faster. I think

    • @miket5529
      @miket5529 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Softballcrazy You would be correct if you were referring to the front chainring. A larger rear cog though will make pedaling easier and lowers the top speed.

      Mine actually had ZERO issues. I just wanted to run an 18tooth cog instead of the 17tooth that comes stock. I'm pretty rough on my PK too, so I expected to have some issues but never did.

      @Dan_r6 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually went 33/17 from your commentary from your older videos and love it might have to try the 18 out when I get new cassette/hub’s since mines going out for sure was hoping it was bottom bracket but it’s skipping

    • @silverfox935
      @silverfox935 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dan_r6 Try to flush your cassette driver with WD40. The clunking and skipping is a result of dirt in the pawls and ratchet ring. Look for a rubber seal between the spokes and the cog, pull it back and squirt it out (with the spray tube) to direct it liberally... that should help for a while... but if there is wear the whole hub will need to be replaced as for I don't believe they have replacement drivers (free hub body) and if I am not mistaken there is a 10mm hollow allen nut on the inside of the hub (after you pound out the axle and bearing) to actually remove the driver. Good luck hope that helps as for the cog remember to space it the same distance from the inside of the hub as the old one.... so your chainline alignment is the same. Peace! :>)

    • @BigBikeBMX
      @BigBikeBMX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cog doesn’t control the sound, just the gearing. If you want a louder noise, you’ll need to upgrade the entire cassette hub. I hear Profile Beastmode hubs work with the PK 27.5 but I don’t own one personally

      You can adjust the gearing with the rear cog or the front chainring. The cog was just easier for me so I went that route. If you want to make getting the wheel up easier: either bigger cog on the rear or smaller chainring up front🤘

      @@cedarbloc11 great question. I like to do slower wheelies so I like an easier gear to pop up easily. You can do both front and back gears but you don’t need to. I’d suggest just swapping one with small adjustments. Say go one more tooth on the cog and see how that changes up things.
