Elaine, here in the US there is a real need for before and after care (babysitting before and after school) You would feed the kids breakfast and send them off to school, then pick them up from school, give them a snack and help them with their homework. I don't know if there is a need for that there or if you're interested, but it's something to consider.

Hi both, wouldn't it be better to find out before the car is fixed if it's going to be possible to rearrange the insurance because if it isn't you won't be able to use it in any case. No doubt you've already reached the point of no return on the insurance judging by what you were saying on the video anyway. I feel for you because I've had some grotty times too & I know how things pile up to knock you down. 🤗
Elaine, I'm wondering if you would be interested in starting a new TH-cam channel based on inexpensive healthy cooking. You could do things similar to the episode you did in Portugal on how many meals you can make for £25, for example. It could also be very instructive for young people who don't know how to cook things like dried beans. You could also do some backyard gardening and canning all with the goal of teaching people how to feed themselves and their families for very little money. Each episode could include a recipe.

You're right, it's been sunny last 2 days, but freezing cold. I've been trying to get garden fence painted,but it's so cold I can only do it for an hour or so. But then Portugal has had a really cold,wet spring too!!!!

I have an excellent mechanic down here. If it 'nearly' started it sounds like the battery or starter motor??? How difficult is that? You sure these clowns are not taking you for a ride?
Totally get where you are when saying the car mechanics of today dont really know, My experience is they read of the diagnostic machine but can't relate it to the actual issue. good luck with that. If you both want a few days work, I'm happy to have you come help me in my garden. Not too far from you in UK Paid of course

Frustrating is the fact they take on work with no intention of doing any and after a week of nothing, tell you they're too busy to do investigations because they make more money from changing tyres etc!!! It turned out that the information we were given by the first person at the insurance company was incorrect. Speaking to someone else at the insurance company, and getting written confirmation, we are still legally insured, but to a lesser degree, which is fine by us.

Have the garage check the camshaft timing as they are known to slip on the sprocket .

Luckily, the car was fixed inside the 3 month deadline and we had already confirmed with our insurance company that we would still be covered 👍

How far away from them are you sounds as though they are in dire need of some assistance

In the end it turns out valves had closed. So after much detective work, no new parts, and some elbow grease....they got it sorted...👍

You could insure the car for 1 week to get back to portugal, dont scrap it that would be stupid.
