I am also Zimbabwean living in the UK. You make me very proud to see that a farm girl from Marondera has what it takes to succeed anywhere. Your upbringing is a true testimony to how hard working and determined we Zimbabwean people are. All the best to your family and God bless and keep you all safe.
I loved the tone in John's voice when you were talking about waking in the park as children with the wild animals... "Okaaayyy" 🤔I knew what he meant because you were listing the animals that were about and I was thinking we just have Adders, missed "Beware of the Bull" signs and occasional grumpy Geese! 😉The idea of walking through somewhere with antelope on the daily as normal is just mindblowing! Don't feel too left out of this episode, John, because I'm sure there will be a trip back to the UK for you to do the same, and even Finland too as you were there for so long! 😃 Tara, please don't think anyone watching would think this was a narcissistic ode, (if they do then they are quite daft!), I feel quite honoured to be a part of those allowed this insight into your childhood and parts of Zimbabwe that just wouldn't be available in the ordinary way, so thank you, Tara, for sharing it with us all! Wishing you all the happiest of New Years! 🎊🎉✨🌟 *hugs * to you all xx
Thanks so much Kimberley haha it is very different and something so "normal" for me 😂 we will hopefully share some of John's story with you soon! We are so glad we could share this memory with you, thank you for your constant support. It means more than the world to us. Happy New Year to you too 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Now that was a look into Tara’s beautiful life in Africa. Never did I see it as an ode to you Tara! All I saw was how your eyes and face lit up as you told us about your family and childhood there. How very special! As a South African this video brought back special feelings and memories for me. Africa is amazing! 🇿🇦❤️
Thank you Irene, we are so glad you saw it like that and not as an ode. I loved sharing more about me and where I came from. Thank you for sharing this journey with me ❤️❤️❤️
Tara you are glowing and the happiness on your face to be back home was incredible. So happy for you and your family and that you could share your childhood growing up and memories with us all. I'm a proud South African, enjoying your journey. Happy New Year to you, John, Crusoe and Sawyer♡♡♡♡
I couldn’t stop the tears rolling down my cheeks as I watched this vlog. I last visited Zimbabwe 29 years ago with my parents and my first born who was 9 months old. It the best trip ever back to my homeland. We were farmers from Umvumu area and during our trip my dad (who passed away last year) told me so much about our family heritage and our farm. Was such a special time of treasured moments. 🇿🇼 😊xx
I was right about your Rhodi accent. My mother was born in Umtali. I grew up on a farm in Kenya. My mother was murdered in 1974, the being of the end, Rhodesia. There are are pictures of me on the VUMBA mountains. Love your, channel and your very happy family tribe. Best wishes to you both for a great Christmas. Go well . ❤
Beautiful already as a girl, Tara. Your life and way of living now are all linked. That gave you the special gift you had to choose a man like John and to share with him an adventurous way to spend these years with him and with two adorable kids. All the very best to you all. I can't imagine how much your family will miss you again, but, of course, they're aware that you are happily living the way they want to.
Thank you Luisa, every part of my childhood has played a role in what I have been able to do and achieve in my life so far. I am very grateful for it all. Goodbyes never get easier. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🇿🇼
I had tears in my eyes watching your video. Zimbabwe my birth place. I miss it so very much. A very blessed, exciting, scary (during the war) and BEST childhood anyone could ask for. Now also in Portugal. Tatenda shamwari for this awesome video.
Thank you Hillary, Africa will always be a part of who we are. Very blessed and thankful that we got to grow up like that. Sending you lots of love 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
All I can say is thank you Tara for sharing your background and childhood memories with us. It gives a lovely breadth and depth to your personality and you feel like a good friend, if that isn’t too presumptuous! Thank you!
It was great to see, as an American, Zimbabwe thru your eyes Tara, rather than what we're told via the main stream media, who always have an agenda. Sawyer is getting so big and I love his smiles! And I loved watching Crusoe having a blast in the puddles! Little scamp! 🥰🤗
The town is very clean. I grew up in South Africa close to the Zimbabwean border and had quite a few Zimbabwean boarders in our school. I know there are never ending and ever increasing problems in parts of Africa, but I also had an idyllic childhood, regularly going out in the wild. There is something about Africa that is so deep in my blood that I can't imagine living anywhere else. The palpable energy that emanates from the soil, the joy in the people regardless of circumstances, the weather. I think growing up in Africa is a privilege and joy. Absolutely lovely episode.
Hi, it is awesome to have you in our part of the world!! I was born and raised in South Africa and have many Zimbabwean friends. I agree, Tara, although Afican life is sometimes challenging, it remains a huge privilege to live here! Enjoy!❤
I'm so happy you were able to share your life with us. You showed us a part of Africa through your eyes. Thank you so much for allowing us to be part of it❣
Wow, this is the best You Tube film ever. You really were lucky Tara, and the fact you repeatedly acknowledged that is testament to your character. Highlights for me, too many to mention, but I would have loved to buy the fruit you were offered. Crusoe enjoying puddles was wonderful, it’s so important to let children explore the world around them, I remember loving puddles and now in my third age still enjoy walking through autumn leaves, and if there’s a puddle, well, my wellies work … Not enough people enjoy the now, you do and it’s such a joy to share. Take care x
Thank you so much for this comment friend, it put the biggest smile on our faces. We are so glad you enjoyed this episode. Our little Crusoe reminds us to enjoy the puddles and small things in life 🌳🦒🇿🇼❤️
What a special episode of Africa & a peek into Tara’s childhood. I never realized how much Crusoe looks like Tara until I saw Tara’s pictures when she was a toddler. Thank you so much for taking us on this wonderful journey to your homeland, it was priceless! Love always from a Portuguese who grew up & living in Canada. ❤️🇵🇹🇨🇦
I've always thought Crusoe favored John, but when showing Tara's photos as a young child, I did a double take! Both boys are a wonderful mix of both of you! For those of us who are not travelers, it's such a treat to see other parts of the world. And, it's wonderful to have a tour guide who's intimate with the land. Thank you, Tara and John, for this very special episode! 🦓🦒🐘
What a beautiful episode John and Tara. Thank you fir sharing your history and beginnings. It makes us feel even more regard and warmth for you. Sincerest blessings and love from Australia. Ps, Sawer is such a sweetie pie, and of course little Crusco is adorable as ever.
Thanks Ruth, we are so glad you enjoyed this episode and learning more about me (Tara) and where I come from. Sending you lots of love to Australia ❤️❤️❤️
you haven't changed a bit Tara , still as beautiful as in your younger days - great to see where you grew up :) I lived in Tanzania as a teenager in the 1980's and those 4 years in Africa changed my perception of time , of nature , of freedom. Great memories :)
Such a special and emotional trip back to your childhood. Africa is embedded deep in one's soul no matter how long you left for other adventures. Your school was awesome with beautifully maintained gardens. Crusoe & puddles were simply delightful. It was a blessing to hear your memories of Zimbabwe.
Thank you Martine, Africa is indeed embedded deep into one's soul! Puddles are one of Crusoe's favourite things! Thanks so much for watching friend, sending you lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
My Dad farmed at Arizona, the farm to the East of Peterhouse in the late 50s. He was often asked to go out to look for lost schoolboys on the farm on a Sunday night, after the boys had been kicked out of school for the day. I was offered a place at the school, but I turned it down because it was too close to home. I was fascinated though on a visit to the school to see that Dunlopillow mattresses were supplied, as opposed to the straw mattresses that we had at the government schools.
Beautiful vlog, Tara & John. I remember the very difficult times in your country when southern Rhodesia became Zimbabwe. It was very unsettling seeing in the news the drastic changes taking place there; it did become very dangerous there. However, it’s home for Tara and it will always be in her heart. I’m very happy for you to visit your country/city with your lovely family. Thank you!
Caruso and his cousins playing and the older hushing them so cute... giraffe so beautiful... Tara what a wonderful childhood you had certainly laid the foundation for your adventures
Aaaaww Tara what a special episode this was. I thoroughly enjoyed this. This episode was a reminder of the blessed childhood we had. Peterhouse, Gosho Park… all that. Zimbabwe is truly a beautiful country. Thank you for creating this. Good to see you after almost 20 years 🌸
In contrast my Mother and Aunt went to Catholic school in armed vehicles as children growing up East Africa during to Mau Mau conflict Family photographs taken before they returned to England are full of the undeniable natural beauty of Kenya but their experience was tinged with another side of Africa. It"s good to hear you felt safe growing up. Truly an enjoyable episode, thank you. Happy New Year
I can just imagine what their experience was like Tilly. I am very grateful to have had the childhood we did. Thanks so much for watching, Happy New Year 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
I'm a South African living in the UK, I have tried my best to describe Africa to my Polish partner, this video will show her exactly what I was saying about Africa, such an amazing down to earth, revealing and interesting video, well done and thank you for sharing, hopefully we will be buying land in Portugal early next year and start our journey together, have a lovely Christmas and God bless you and your family 😊 🙏
This was so fascinating! While I have traveled quite a bit, I have only been to Africa once and that was Morocco. I now see Zimbabwe in a totally new light and am so happy about that. I grew up in and still live in Texas and get some of the funniest questions, particularly while abroad, about whether Texas is really like people's preconceived notions of it. They want to see my cowboy hat and boots. I have those things but only wear them very occasionally, not daily. I think it is great that you took the chance to provide such an inside view of a country that many people have notions about but will never have the chance to visit and get first hand knowledge. Thanks for sharing!
My favorite posting, being born and raised in Africa myself (Mozambique) I can relate immensely about everything Tara said about her childhood. What a great childhood I had . So funny that John asked if was dangerous living in Africa, such a common question from a western perspective. Now that I live in a “civilized “country (America) not sure what is more safe …we only have mass soothings EVERY day. In the words of John Hemingway …”If I have ever seen MAGIC it as been in AFRICA “ Thank you for sharing, I absolutely love your postings Best of luck on your endeavors
Was in Chimanimani (as well as Nyanga and Bvumba) two months ago. It's a very special part of the country with the most incredible vistas. It's so different to my ancestral home, the Matobo Hills which are incredible in their own right. Zim is such a beautiful country.
Thank you for this beautiful Sunday morning gift! Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart, Zimbabwe! I taught English as a Second Language for 12 years. My favorite classes were when the students told us all about their homeland and what was special about the land, community and culture. It opened our hearts to the beauty of our wonderful world through each person's voice. You have blessed us today! Thank you Newby's!
Yes, I just did subscribe to your channel. I have eagerly followed your videos and the remarkable progress you have made Portugal with the massive farm project. But, watching this one video did it for me. I found myself crying and laughing and reliving a deep longing for Africa. I’m of an older generation but, like you, Tara, I was born and raised in Africa, across the border, in the Gorongoza area of Mozambique where I spent many wonderful and formative years among the wild life. At the age of 12, I was sent to high school in South Africa; a huge adjustment since I spoke only Portuguese, Sena and Shangaan and some French. Anyway, I won’t bore you with a load of details. Despite the many roads I have travelled and no longer living in Africa, suffice to say that it remains a deep part of my soul. I look forward to all your updates.
Thanks so much for the support Alex, Africa is such a special place and will always be special. There is nothing like Africa and it is in our blood that is for sure. We appreciate all your support friend ❤️❤️
Wonderful video....I can relate as I came to the US at a very young age and had the privilege of growing up in an multi cultural society which helped to make me the person I am today. Your experiences are priceless and unfortunately not shared by most of the people on this planet, thank you for sharing!
I was born in Portugal , meaning , I'm portuguese , but I came to England in 64 , back to Portugal in 71 , and 2006 , back in England again ! What you have been doing it's to me sort of Paradise on Earth , I really really admire and like you for that . Since I've discovered you on TH-cam , I spend quite some time entertaining myself , just watch you as a family doing a very good work in Portugal . I wish you all of the best in your LIFE !
What a wonderful childhood you had, so nice to see how grateful you are. I believe your children will also be grateful for the life you are both giving them. God bless you all.x
So beautiful to journey with you all.Its like being a guest of yours ,I really feel the warmth that you radiate to us all.I bid you health and happiness which you all deserve.Great job.
I went to school at the back of Paignton zoo, Devon, UK, and we used to go there regularly for classes and get behind the scenes with the animals and in the greenhouses. We loved it. I know now that zoos were not good in the seventies, but they are all about conservation and rehabilitation now and are in much better environments. Really lovely to see about your childhood. I love you guys!
You reminded me of when I went to school in Congo in Kingshasa..I was also so lucky to go to school there and grew up close to the Elizabeth ville zoo and the out back the safari wasn't far away ...such wonderful memories of my life there I LOVED CONGO. And the people row love to go back sometime
It is lovely to see Zimbabwe and the hustle and bustle not everyone will understand. Loved seeing Edgars store in the passing. I grew up in South Africa now living in UK . Those years it was totally different growing up playing till late outside , not a mobile phone or laptop in sight. You are so lucky to grew up with the giraffes and zebras etc
Amazing life you had growing up in Zimbabwe....thank you for sharing your life then and now.....your Portugal property is coming along greatly and your family life is so special ❤....
Lovely episode Tara! I was lucky enough to visit Zimbabwe as a kid from Australia. We went on safari at Hwange National Park which was truly magical and one of the best memories of my life. I loved seeing the country again with you, John, Crusoe and Sawyer. I hope to go back some day. Happy new year fam!
What a treat to see this video!! And the boys still so little 💕 A beautiful place to grow up!! I know Tara’s parents are so proud to see you continue the family-farm tradition in Portugal!! ❤️
Loved learning about Zimbabwe and your childhood. And as always, loved seeing your children just be children. Jumping in puddles, spilling raisins, and eating ice cream!
Not narcissistic at all. So nice of you to share a little bit of your earlier life with us. What a beautiful place you lived in and so happy for you that you have such fondness of your family and childhood!! Those are special lasting memories for you to pass on to Crusoe and Sawyer. ❤️
Great seeing Zim. I grew up in Harare, but taught in Mutare, so it was interesting to see the changes. Loved seeing Crusoe in the puddles, and his cousin telling him to be quiet near the animals. Very sweet.
It's far more interesting to see a place through the eyes of someone you "know" than to watch a load of facts strung together (as in a documentary) because you get to feel the place too. From mountains to town, wildlife to school life, it was lovely to take a break in such a beautiful place - and do some more puddle jumping!
Tara thank you so much for taking us back to your home. We found it very interesting as it is so different than our childhood home and growing up here Florida USA. Crusoe had so much fun with his cousins and the puddles! Your life has come full circle, Crusoe and Sawyer will one day share their memories of growing up on a farm! Fantastic video! ~Cara ❤
Thank you Cara, we do hope that the boys will get to have a childhood like I did! It was so special and I am so glad we could share that with you today. Sending you lots of love 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
it gives me such joy that you let Crusoe jump and splash in the puddles and run around barefoot. I was grew up in rural South Australia so this is all so familiar to me. I have photos of me at around 18 months old splashing stark naked in the duck puddles, god only knows what bacteria was in there! 24 years ago I got to bring my daughter up the same way for the first 5 years of her life as well. Memories we will never forget. Let kids be kids I say. Thank you for sharing your 'home' with us Tara.
Thank you for this beautiful and very long episode! It sometimes looked like a forest in Portugal! Yes, I can imagine you are especially grateful to your parents to make that sacrifice and let you attend a private school! I would love to meet your parents in your next vlog. Will they be in your next episode? 😘
I just love this these 3 men I have known since they were children they are much older looking now 2024 and so am I an elderly white lady still in Zim the best town to live in ❤
What a delightful informative beautiful film this was. Thank you for taking us on this journey to a gorgeous part of Africa ! And a look back in time when Tara grew up. Crusoe and his puddles, Sawyer beaming that smile at his mom. What a lovely family you are ! 💕🌷
So happy this video came up this morning, I’ve always wondered about your childhood in Africa. Your pride is so obvious and truly heart warming. I look forward to more episodes.
2 days ago, I had a heart attack, while going through that my thoughts went to you guys and how I didn't want to miss your video... this was so thoughtful of you both to share with us. thank you !!!!!!
Enjoyed your video so much as we live in Zambia at Lake Kariba and know the circumstances facing everyone regarding electricity. Please tell us which Safari Camp you worked at in Zambia? Love your videos of renovating a farm in Portugal.
This was a very interesting tour of a place I could never imagine living. Now as I meet people escaping Africa and see how they had to live it gives me a better understanding of their poverty life. Dara had an incredible life and she really appreciated her privileged time at her school. The wildlife is amazing!! As a mom of 3 boys I keep asking how many times she had to go and wash up curuso after all his exploring. ????
Oh, this was a very interesting video, Tara, John and Crusoe!! Crusoe loved the pools in the streets of Marondera. 😅 We learned much about your child life Tara. When I start watching your videos, I thought that you are a family from the UK who bought land in Portugal. Well thanks for this video, it was nice to hear what you tell us about Zim. I visited Zim in 1996 and enjoyed it very much. The Vic falls is wonderfull! Seeing forth to the next video! Take care of yourself and can't wait to see you back on your farm in Portugal finishing your new house.
Enjoyed seeing Africa through your lens. Having driven on my Dad's lap, I appreciated letting Crusoe take the wheel. We all take so much for granted. 3-4 hours of electricity because there isn't enough water. 😪
How wonderful to see your beautiful country, Tara. I was blown away with how lush and green it was. I've never visited any African countries and had the impression that it was all dry and dusty, but no no no! Not at all. So lovely to hear about your life growing up in Zimbabwe, what an experience. Seeing your photos, you've hardly changed at all! And John, I too went to a comprehensive school in the UK and we didn't have ANY animals attached unless you count some of the kids 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Lottie, we are so glad you enjoyed this episode. It is beautifully green there in the Summer. We were very lucky to have had Gosho Park on our doorstep - with all the animals and nature to enjoy! Thanks so much for watching friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Wow!! What a beautiful school! Yes we are all very privileged to have great schools, our parents work very hard to get us in a good school. With all that went on in Zim I am amazed that your family still living there. I have a Zimbabwe girl as a cleaner in my house. What a fabulous women. I love her as a daughter and her 2children. She's longing to go back to Zimbabwe and I dread that day!! But what a beautiful country ♥️♥️♥️Happy New Year, hope the year would bring you only good things!!
Thank you Hannah, it is still a very beautiful country and we love visiting. It is never easy to leave but with that being said I am very grateful I had the opportunity to grow up in a place like Zimbabwe. Happy New Year to you and your family 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
From Spain: I'm following you for 2 years now. I'm from the Netherlands and enjoying every video you make! Keep up doing so and stay healthy, anything else you can buy!
Great video! Wow, Crusoe resembles you, Tara, so much! I just love the African landscapes! Grew up in South Africa till my 9th, and things have changed dramatically there too. But always feel ‘homesick’ seeing those trees, the sundowns, the busy streets. Thanks for sharing!
So lovely to see where you grew up Tara, we have amazing similarities, it's incredible! I grew up in Brasil, similar economy and political difficulties, similar landscapes, towns etc and went to boarding school on the mouth of the River Amazon. Our backgrounds and life experiences definitely define who we are as adults. I love that you've been able to show your husband and children what your life looked like back then, and us! 🤗
Thank you for sharing this with me Joanne, it is so nice to be able to relate to others and I feel I can relate to you too now. Thanks so much for watching 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
As ex Zimbabweans what a lovely walk down memory lane. We were lucky to live in a place where we were grateful for everything and loved what life had to offer. Your gratitude for your parents is real living in Harare all my young life private school is a blessing and a sacrifice for your parents. Hoping that you show us more of Zimbabwe. Crusoe is definitely living the dream ... more puddles please !!! enjoying your Journey ..... love following your journey ...
What a beautiful video. Zimbabwe is amazing. I am an English teacher in a private school - so I can afford tuition for my daughter to go to a private school! Education is so important. It's wonderful that you recognize your parents' sacrifice.
Thanks so much Christy! My parents really did sacrifice a lot to get us both through private school. Thanks so much for watching friend, sending you lots of love 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
So nice to see another part of zimbabwe. Growing up in south africa i understand this type of life. In 2000 with the new millennium me and my husband were in zim at the big falls❤❤. The people are so humble and friendly there. Shame and lately zim battle with heavy droughts🙏🙏🙏
What a lovely, beautiful country and it was so fun to see where you grew up Tara and went to school. Thanks for taking us along and letting us experience it all through your eyes.😊
What a wonderful video! We have great memories of having such a great time while in Zimbabwe back in 2014. We were on a tour that took us from Cape Town all the way up the east coast to Joburg then to Vic Falls Safari lodge Zimbabwe and Chobe Botswana Safari lodge. Our travels throughout were safe and had the most amazing trip ever! We experienced the most amazing people ! So friendly. And the food !!! Omg! No matter where you travelled was the very Very best ! We have travelled to many places all over the world But Zimbabwe and the rest of the trip left us wanting to come back whereas other destinations we feel once was enough. The abundance of activities in Zimbabwe everything from helicopter rides over Vic Falls Safari rides in Stanley Livingston reserve. To golfing at Elephant Hills resort. Other vacations have left us exhausted whereas visiting Africa we felt so relaxed and every day had a smile on our faces! We are actually looking at returning again ! We can’t say enough good things about the people of Zimbabwe and throughout!!! We are from Canada and we believe the nicest are actually in Zimbabwe !!! For average people like us this is a very budget friendly trip. We are not rich and felt prices and abundance of so many Africa quality items (souvenirs)to be so reasonable! All the very best from your Canadian followers! We appreciate all your hard work providing these videos! We still love hearing you say “well done little man! To Carusoe!! Maybe you might remember our comment from awhile back where now my dad calls me that lol!!!! Love it! Well done little man!!!! Cheers!
Thanks so much Ken, it really does sound like you had an incredible tour! Well done little man! We love it haha Thanks so much for watching friend, sending you lots of love to Canada 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Thank You Tara & John. What a privilege to be able to share in your journey. Your generosity in sharing your experiences is so appreciated. My wife Heidi grew up in South Africa and was really touched by so many aspects of the video which are making us rethink our plans to get even more from our next visit 'home'. Like John I grew up in the UK with a standard comprehensive education. My travels are limited to 29 countries and 5 continents so way behind John (and only slightly ahead of Crusoe) but we are thinking big and determined to be brave for more exploration in the coming few years. We did wonder Tara, did you learn any African languages as a child? Thanks again from Steve & Heidi
Hi Steve and Heidi. Thanks so much for watching! Being able to grow up in Africa is such an honour and privilege and I am glad Heidi could relate to some of what I said. We are so glad we could inspire you a little to Braver, Think Bigger and Explore more. We did have Shona as a language at school ❤️🇿🇼
It's nice to see how it all started. I first saw you in the vlog of the Voyagers in the Italian Alphs. And your constancy and industry and most of all your kindness and love have made me an avid fan. Your positivity, love for people and animals, and your exemplary love for nature will definitely await your vlogs always.
Hi Friends! Thank you so much for sharing! The happiness and pride of her home is so sweet. What a lovely place. Precious memories! I smiled so much during the video!
mhoro shamwari ndafara kuona mhuri yako nenyika.... Hello friends was nice to see your family. Shona most spoken of the 16 languages of Zimbabwe, wanted to see some of Zimbabwe rich culture. Thank-you for making us part of your family by sharing your past, present and future. The saying is the apple does not fall far from the tree, when we saw you Tara at a young age I thought I saw Crusoe, now we see clearly your boys looking more like you Tara, do not worry John, Crusoe loves to play as his daddy fixing and building things, wonders of wonders. Was glad to see your history, your beginnings, now we know why you bought a farm, both of you John and Tara were perfectly matched, your love of tourism continues to enthrall us as we are limited in travel. You have both great heritages to share with your children. No matter what, your values inherited by your parents of hard work, freedom and family will be the same values your children will have. Thank-you again showing us beautiful Zimbabwe. Happy New Year and Happy New Beginnings in Portugal to all of you.🙏💖🌺🥰💝🤗 QUESTION: Tara you mentioned your parents bought a farm back in the 1960's, I am curious about your background, are your grandparents Dutch, English or other origins???
Hi Joanne. We always love hearing from you. Thanks so much for sharing this special moment and memory with us. Happy New Year to you and your family too friend! My grandparents on my fathers side are Dutch and on my mothers side English ❤️🇿🇼
@@TheNewbys thanks for the information about your grandparents, they worked hard and made a lot of sacrifices, we see their labour of love in you and your children. God bless you all🙏🌺💝🥰
What a beautiful place. I feel very privileged to have been on this journey with you. What an interesting life you have led Tara. Hearing some of your childhood memories and seeing you help your chidren make memories of their own was pretty special.
I grew up in South Africa and also used to catch a train to boarding school from Komatipoort to Ermelo convent. Have lived in the UK now for almost 20 years but my heart longs for the sounds of Africa. I can connect with your feelings. We had a boat cruise on Lake Kariba flew a helicopter over the vic Falls played golf at Elephant Park Hotel. What memories you have evoked. thankyou
I loved this video! It was wonderful to see where Tara grew up! Just getting home from South Africa this video made me miss the small towns and country side of Africa. There is a saying in my world, "once in Africa, Africa will always be in your heart!" Such a true statement for me. Thanks again for sharing your life. John, you did a great job with the questions! So happy you were with family for the Holidays! Happy New Year!
Thanks Laura, we are so glad you enjoyed this episode. We couldn't agree more with that saying - Africa has a way of creeping deep into your heart. Happy New Year to you and your family too 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
When I saw gosho park I was so surprised i went to school at the junior school there. My dad loves your videos and has just been binging them. Love your videos and hope you come back soon.
Wow Tara, thank you for sharing your childhood with us. What a beautiful country . I love that you are both so grateful for your life experience. Happy New year.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful part of Africa with us! Your school looks amazing and it was wonderful to see so many parts of where you are from. Would you send your boys to private boarding school? Love all the puddle jumping and stories. Thank you again.😊🌸🌺
Good morning, Newbys! Thank you for sharing this trip to Zimbabwe. It is a beautiful country and it’s so lovely that you can share this with your sons. See you next week❤️❤️❤️❤️
This appeared in my feed today. You are so beautiful. You and John make such a handsome couple. THX for sharing your upbringing and more about your homeland. My ex-hubby was born in Zimbabwe, raised in Zambia and lived in Johannesburg for many years. He is of Welsch heritage with red hair and freckles, We met in the US, he used to get a big kick outta saying he was African American. He and his third wife are very happy for over 20 years now. I was his third wife, the big ole flirt. hahahhah
You have shown me a way of life growing up that I could never have imagined since I grew up a very very different life in So Cal in the 60’s. Such a beautiful video, I didn’t want it to end. What a life you are having and also providing to your kids. Think I’ll do it differently next life! 🥰
What a beautiful video, really loved your trip down memory lane, to share your culture, background and history with your beautiful family and all of us :) Happy New Year!🎉❤
I came via other vloggers I follow and have done a few travels myself as an international educator now retired. I had no idea about Zimbabwe, however, no idea at all. You've opened my eyes to some beautiful country and people. Thank you, Tara. A very interesting vlog.
A lovely episode 😍 I was so looking forward to it and wasn't disappointed. My late husband grew up in Zim, he proudly went to Peter House and called it the Eton of Africa. His parents lived in Harere. When he was diagnosed with terminal cancer 6 years ago he asked if it was possible that I took him home. I laid his ashes at the base of a baobab tree in Hwange National Park. Thank you for giving me a glimpse of the school x x I was pleased to see Crusoe enjoying his puddles 🤣 x x
Good morning family, As a middle school teacher here in New Jersey I only wish that more children will have the opportunity to grow and experience a tenth of what your child was like, Tara. I grew up in Uruguay and I was privileged to jump puddles and see people in the market selling goods etc. This video is breathtaking and to see Crusoe with his cousins reminded me a lot of your childhood. I would love to visit Zimbabwe. Is there a travel agency that you recommended? Is there any way to sponsor a child to go to that school? Thank you so much for this video! Sending love from Jersey-Mariana PS- are you familiar with the Reggio Approach for Crusoe or the baby’s education? Fear not-Crusoe can handle none plastic tools (at least some of them). 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Hi there friend. So sorry for the slow (very slow) reply. This is a tricky question and we have been asking around to find the right answers about sponsorship. Sadly no such joy. Growing up in Uruguay must have been excellent fun, a smilier childhood to mine. Thanks so much for watching and taking this journey with us, your support is so very much appreciated! 👍🙏🇵🇹🏡
I loved this episode. I too lived in a little town called Stapleford not too far from Umtali. It was wonderful to see the beautiful landscape and wild animals of Zims. I love you guys!!! I often rewatch a lot of your episodes, you are a fun family with great values. Your little boys are soooooo cute!!!! It makes me want to move to Portugal. It does look like hard work, however your lives are full of purpose and adventure!!! Your little family is amazing. I look forward to the next exciting episode.
I knew I recognized your accent! I saw a few of your videos before realizing you were from Zim and recognized your accent but couldn't place it. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Zimbabwe while I was in college and I'll never forget the beauty of the country or the generosity of the people we met. Unfortunately it was 2005 or 2006 so "Operation Cleanup" was still going on and people were really suffering with the food and fuel shortages and some people's homes being torn down, burning garbage in the streets, etc. We were mainly in and around Harare but spent a little bit of time in Bulawayo and a little bit in Vic Falls. Loved unexpectedly running across this video and seeing some more of the country. Thank you for sharing!

Where did Tara learn to speak Afrikaans?
@@alidabotes6264 there are plenty in Botswana, zim,Zambia etc that speak it
I am also Zimbabwean living in the UK. You make me very proud to see that a farm girl from Marondera has what it takes to succeed anywhere. Your upbringing is a true testimony to how hard working and determined we Zimbabwean people are. All the best to your family and God bless and keep you all safe.
Thank you for this lovely comment Robin, we are so appreciate of your support ❤️❤️❤️
Enjoyed this video I'm from US A and never saw scenery from Africa before
I lived in Rodhisia where i learned my english. Loved this part of my life.
Great video guys what an amazing childhood you guys are so real and a testament to life thank you 😊🙏🏻❤️
Such a lovely comment ☺️
I loved the tone in John's voice when you were talking about waking in the park as children with the wild animals... "Okaaayyy" 🤔I knew what he meant because you were listing the animals that were about and I was thinking we just have Adders, missed "Beware of the Bull" signs and occasional grumpy Geese! 😉The idea of walking through somewhere with antelope on the daily as normal is just mindblowing!
Don't feel too left out of this episode, John, because I'm sure there will be a trip back to the UK for you to do the same, and even Finland too as you were there for so long! 😃
Tara, please don't think anyone watching would think this was a narcissistic ode, (if they do then they are quite daft!), I feel quite honoured to be a part of those allowed this insight into your childhood and parts of Zimbabwe that just wouldn't be available in the ordinary way, so thank you, Tara, for sharing it with us all!
Wishing you all the happiest of New Years! 🎊🎉✨🌟
*hugs * to you all xx
That was very educational about Zimbabwe I didn't know a lot of that stuff keep up the good work on a good videos
Do you know Jesus is a messenger of God
It is rare to be shown an African country in such a positive while down to earth way. Thank you
Thanks so much for watching friend 🌳🦒🇿🇼❤️
by a white colonizer, just great.
Zimbabwean people are extraordinary. They constantly making a plan to survive and are so friendly and welcoming!
They are indeed Sarah, Thanks so much for watching friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
I miss it every day! 😪
Tara. You’ve made made wife cry for you that you cried at night and wanted to go home 😢😢😢😢😢😢 I hope you keep you children at home and homeschool them
All I can say is thank you Tara for sharing your background and childhood memories with us. It gives a lovely breadth and depth to your personality and you feel like a good friend, if that isn’t too presumptuous! Thank you!
Thank you for watching Karen, it was so nice to be able to share this with you ❤️❤️❤️
It was great to see, as an American, Zimbabwe thru your eyes Tara, rather than what we're told via the main stream media, who always have an agenda. Sawyer is getting so big and I love his smiles! And I loved watching Crusoe having a blast in the puddles! Little scamp! 🥰🤗
Thanks so much for watching Christine 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Oh my word!!! You are taking me back to my town..Marandellas!!! I'm now in UK..so this is so welcome to my Rhodesian heart!!!
We love Marondera Jenny 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
The town is very clean.
I grew up in South Africa close to the Zimbabwean border and had quite a few Zimbabwean boarders in our school. I know there are never ending and ever increasing problems in parts of Africa, but I also had an idyllic childhood, regularly going out in the wild. There is something about Africa that is so deep in my blood that I can't imagine living anywhere else. The palpable energy that emanates from the soil, the joy in the people regardless of circumstances, the weather. I think growing up in Africa is a privilege and joy.
Absolutely lovely episode.
You worded it perfectly there friend! The energy, the people and the weather is what makes it an incredible place to grow up in 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Hi, it is awesome to have you in our part of the world!! I was born and raised in South Africa and have many Zimbabwean friends. I agree, Tara, although Afican life is sometimes challenging, it remains a huge privilege to live here! Enjoy!❤
Where did you learn to speak Afrikaans?
I'm so happy you were able to share your life with us. You showed us a part of Africa through your eyes. Thank you so much for allowing us to be part of it❣
Thanks so much for watching Judy, we are so appreciate of your support friend ❤️🇿🇼
Great to see Umtali/ Mutari again. Chris Thailand.
I know - they are identical! So cute!
Great to hear from you Marilena, we are so grateful for your support friend. 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Do you know Jesus is a messenger of God
As a fellow Zimbo, I want to thank you for such a great video. My kids were born there and your description tells it all.
Thank you Declan, we are so glad you enjoyed it 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
I've always thought Crusoe favored John, but when showing Tara's photos as a young child, I did a double take! Both boys are a wonderful mix of both of you!
For those of us who are not travelers, it's such a treat to see other parts of the world. And, it's wonderful to have a tour guide who's intimate with the land. Thank you, Tara and John, for this very special episode! 🦓🦒🐘
Thank you Lisa, that is so kind of you. We are so glad you can travel vicariously through our channel. 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Do you know Jesus is a messenger of God
Thanks Minkhs, Africa tends to do that to a person! Very lucky to have had that kind of childhood. Thanks so much for watching friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
There is absolutely no way that you come across as narcissistic, you are truly a wonderful lady!
So wonderful to see that bush and Marondera after many years away.
Thank you for taking us through your childhood. I pray for tolerance and reconciliation for Zimbabwe
Thanks so much for watching Lamin 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Beautiful vlog, Tara & John.
I remember the very difficult times in your country when southern Rhodesia became Zimbabwe. It was very unsettling seeing in the news the drastic changes taking place there; it did become very dangerous there. However, it’s home for Tara and it will always be in her heart.
I’m very happy for you to visit your country/city with your lovely family.
Thank you!
Caruso and his cousins playing and the older hushing them so cute... giraffe so beautiful... Tara what a wonderful childhood you had certainly laid the foundation for your adventures
He absolutely loved spending time with his cousins Diane. I am so glad I could share a bit of my childhood with you 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Aaaaww Tara what a special episode this was.
Love that, thanks friend ❤️❤️
Great to hear from you Kathy, Thanks so much for watching friend. 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
In the words of John Hemingway …”If I have ever seen MAGIC it as been in AFRICA “
Thank you for sharing, I absolutely love your postings
Best of luck on your endeavors
Was in Chimanimani (as well as Nyanga and Bvumba) two months ago. It's a very special part of the country with the most incredible vistas. It's so different to my ancestral home, the Matobo Hills which are incredible in their own right. Zim is such a beautiful country.
You are quite right Ncubesays, Zimbabwe is a magnificent country! Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🇿🇼
@@TheNewbys It's cool seeing a Petrean have such pride in their school. Reminded me of my old budgie days at Falcon🦅
We absolutely love meeting new people and learning about their background and where they come from. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🇿🇼
Tara and John it is never ever a bad thing to show pride and gratitude for where you came from. Thank you for showing us around your roots.
Thanks so much for watching Doris 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Thanks so much for watching friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Thank you Suejavea 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
So beautiful to journey with you all.Its like being a guest of yours ,I really feel the warmth that you radiate to us all.I bid you health and happiness which you all deserve.Great job.
Thanks so much Xiomi, you are so sweet ❤️❤️❤️
I went to school at the back of Paignton zoo, Devon, UK, and we used to go there regularly for classes and get behind the scenes with the animals and in the greenhouses. We loved it. I know now that zoos were not good in the seventies, but they are all about conservation and rehabilitation now and are in much better environments. Really lovely to see about your childhood. I love you guys!
Great to hear from you Lisa, Thanks so much for watching friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Thanks so much for watching Gizla, sending you lots of love 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Amazing life you had growing up in Zimbabwe....thank you for sharing your life then and now.....your Portugal property is coming along greatly and your family life is so special ❤....
Lovely episode Tara! I was lucky enough to visit Zimbabwe as a kid from Australia. We went on safari at Hwange National Park which was truly magical and one of the best memories of my life. I loved seeing the country again with you, John, Crusoe and Sawyer. I hope to go back some day. Happy new year fam!
Hwange National Park is absolutely amazing Chloe! We are so glad you got to experience a safari there 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
What a treat to see this video!! And the boys still so little 💕 A beautiful place to grow up!! I know Tara’s parents are so proud to see you continue the family-farm tradition in Portugal!! ❤️
Thanks Sandra! ❤️❤️
Loved learning about Zimbabwe and your childhood. And as always, loved seeing your children just be children. Jumping in puddles, spilling raisins, and eating ice cream!
Thanks so much for watching Kathleen, we love seeing him jumping in puddles and just having fun! ❤️🇿🇼
Not narcissistic at all. So nice of you to share a little bit of your earlier life with us. What a beautiful place you lived in and so happy for you that you have such fondness of your family and childhood!! Those are special lasting memories for you to pass on to Crusoe and Sawyer. ❤️
Thank you Terri, we are so appreciate of your support friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Great seeing Zim. I grew up in Harare, but taught in Mutare, so it was interesting to see the changes. Loved seeing Crusoe in the puddles, and his cousin telling him to be quiet near the animals. Very sweet.
Thanks so much for watching PJ, we are so appreciate of your support friend ❤️🇿🇼
It's far more interesting to see a place through the eyes of someone you "know" than to watch a load of facts strung together (as in a documentary) because you get to feel the place too.
From mountains to town, wildlife to school life, it was lovely to take a break in such a beautiful place - and do some more puddle jumping!
We are so glad you enjoyed this episode Ruth, where Crusoe + puddles are = a lot of puddle jumping 😂
That is so special Bels, those are definitely memories you will never forget! Thanks so much for watching friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Thank you for this beautiful and very long episode! It sometimes looked like a forest in Portugal!
Yes, I can imagine you are especially grateful to your parents to make that sacrifice and let you attend a private school!
I would love to meet your parents in your next vlog. Will they be in your next episode?
😘
We are so glad you enjoyed it Renalda! We will hopefully introduce you to them soon 😊🙏🏼❤️
We are so glad you enjoyed it Yvonne, thank you for joining us on this special adventure. Sending you lots of love 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Loved going down memory lane with you all. I'm a Zimbabwean too. Watching from Port ELIZABETH, Summerstrand ,Gqeberha. South Africa. 😊😊😊😊😊
So happy this video came up this morning, I’ve always wondered about your childhood in Africa. Your pride is so obvious and truly heart warming. I look forward to more episodes.
Thank you Jan, we are so appreciate of your support ❤️🇿🇼
Crusoe's awesome. Bro just keeps getting one last run through the puddles against all the odds
2 days ago, I had a heart attack, while going through that my thoughts went to you guys and how I didn't want to miss your video...
this was so thoughtful of you both to share with us. thank you !!!!!!
Wow friend, we are so glad you are doing better! Please look after yourself ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you guys for showing the world the real Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 🙏
Thanks so much for watching friend, we are so appreciate of your support ❤️🇿🇼
Oh, this was a very interesting video, Tara, John and Crusoe!! Crusoe loved the pools in the streets of Marondera. 😅
We learned much about your child life Tara.
We are so glad you enjoyed this episode Karen, driving on my dad's lap was one of my favourite things to do! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much Toine, we are so glad you enjoyed this episode 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Great video! Wow, Crusoe resembles you, Tara, so much! I just love the African landscapes! Grew up in South Africa till my 9th, and things have changed dramatically there too. But always feel ‘homesick’ seeing those trees, the sundowns, the busy streets. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching Emcee 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
Thank you Tarra for showing me ,us, Zimbabwe. Beautiful. When you speak of your life there, you show me the light of your Soul ❤❤
Thanks so much for watching Jerry 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
We are so glad you enjoyed this episode Gordon. We absolutely LOVED being with our family in Zimbabwe. Such special memories 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
What a beautiful video. Zimbabwe is amazing. I am an English teacher in a private school - so I can afford tuition for my daughter to go to a private school! Education is so important. It's wonderful that you recognize your parents' sacrifice.
Changed my screen name. I'm Christy from South Carolina. 🙂
Thanks so much for watching Susan, I love that I can share a piece of me with you 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
What a wonderful video! Omg! No matter where you travelled was the very
Very best !
That’s very kind friend. Thank you. ❤️❤️
Hi Friends! Thank you so much for sharing! The happiness and pride of her home is so sweet. What a lovely place. Precious memories! I smiled so much during the video!
Thanks so much for watching Sherry ❤️🇿🇼
mhoro shamwari ndafara kuona mhuri yako nenyika....
Thanks for sharing this memory with us Sally 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼

Hi Carol, Thanks so much for watching friend. We love being able to show you a little more into my (Tara) childhood. See you next week friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
This appeared in my feed today.
You are so beautiful. You and John make such a handsome couple.
THX for sharing your upbringing and more about your homeland.
My ex-hubby was born in Zimbabwe, raised in Zambia and lived in Johannesburg for many years.
He is of Welsch heritage with red hair and freckles,
We met in the US, he used to get a big kick outta saying he was African American.
Thank you Tena, we are so appreciate of your support friend 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
What a beautiful video, really loved your trip down memory lane, to share your culture, background and history with your beautiful family and all of us :) Happy New Year!🎉❤

Fantastic throwback, thank you guys 💖💖💖💖
Happy New Year 🦸🦸💪💪
Thanks so much Teśka. Happy New Year ❤️🇿🇼
I came via other vloggers I follow and have done a few travels myself as an international educator now retired.
Thank you for giving me a glimpse of the school x x
I was pleased to see Crusoe enjoying his puddles 🤣 x x
Thank you Lesley. That is very special friend! We know he is resting in peace in the beautiful Hwange 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
I am a Zimbabwean, settled in the UK, and I am very proud of you guys. I always watch your videos of your projects in Portugal. Proud of you homie
Good morning family,
As a middle school teacher here in New Jersey I only wish that more children will have the opportunity to grow and experience a tenth of what your child was like, Tara.
So cool!
Memories to cherish is all about celebrating life, with people you love in the place you call home. Resembles my childhood in a Brazilian farm.
Thanks so much Niura ❤️🇿🇼
