Hi Elaine, Darren and Max. Oh I would have taken the celery. I juice it and drink it immediately, if you don't like the taste you can add an apple to it, it's great for the liver! I saw you were at Salvation Army...what a coinky-dinky,! I've been working at the Salvation Army for two months now and love it! I work at the store, they have the best schedule ever for their employees. Ok, take care...Lilly and Weston 🐶
Holy moly!! Or should I say, holy broccoli!! 🥦 Wow, what an amazingly good deal on all the produce and lovely scones. Your sourdough looked beautiful. Your chilli jelly did as well. Thank you for taking us along with you both to the gorgeous "art park". Very cool! So good to hear about the car. Yay!!
You got me at sour dough. I make two batches of two loaves of sour dough each week. I bought a flour mill about two years ago and its very satisfying making bread from freshly ground wheat. When I started out, I brought all the gear, bannetons, dutch oven, etc and dont use any of them now. I do the second proof in a loaf tins and cook covered with identical loaf tin. Your ferments sound great, especially the onion. I have dabbled but keen to get into further. Thanks for update as always 🤗🥝
Good to have a catch up, every now and then I look you up just in case I've miss any post. Love the too good to go boxes. Great to see Max, he looks happy. Glad the car is right again.
Hope you guys are doing ok. Elaine you are amazing. The things you can do with the ingredients you have. Do you compost in your UK home. Your car fixed is a game changer. It won't be long before you guys are both together in Portugal. Be Well dear friends ❤❤ Harriet, Jim and yuki
Such great news about your car. I hoped you'd find a good decent mechanic. I've had much the same issue of late. The guys with the computerized diagnostics quoted me a mega $. After checking around, I had all the work done for less than 1/2 the price, and quicker. Good luck with the house repairs as well! 💕🇨🇦
Glad you are back. There is always, something to learn from your videos. You work so well with your money. Can you show more footage of the town you visit on your travels....please. Like more of what the thrift shops have etc.... Places...
Wow you did really well with your too good to go boxes. Ours from morrisons,my results are usually loads of one thing and not a lot of others ie loads of bread not much veg and tons of lemons . Ah well I'm glad your boxes are worth while. I too don't like celery but cooked in a stock then covered in a roux sauce it is delicious. Loads of scones in the freezer then?xx
That sourdough sounds delicious, toasted with avo, tomatoes ,cheese, yum. I eat very little bread because i dont know when to stop. Havent been game enough to try kimchi, but it sounds as though I need to. Welcome back.
I found it quite different to bought yeast bread. I can throw anything in a bowl with dried yeast and off it goes, but this sourdough is making me think and tweek what I do, I love a challenge 👍
Try and go to Bishop Auckland there is a castle and an 800 acre parkland to roam in dogs are allowed to ...nice place to have a picnic too..an interesting castle that belong to the Bishop princes, also a lovely walled garden to enjoy....perfect for a sunny week end! P.S. Lidl also do a fruit and veg box daily for £1.50 any one can take it...
I know Bishop Auckland well, it was a regular trip out as a kid....from our family caravan to go to the market....not sure if it still runs...my Dad would always buy a quarter of banana toffee and quarter of brasil nut toffee and we share it through the week on our walks 💕
Elaine your sourdough bread looks successful.😁 Try making some Kimchi fermented veg with spice and chilli, I prefer it over sourkraut. Those veggie boxes look good value. Thanks for the tip. Safe journey back to portugal. 💚
I've never heard of the app. Looked it up for here in the US. It appears to only be in lots of big cities like New York, San Francisco, etc. We live in Oregon, and there's one in Portland that is 150 miles away. Glad to see another video. Thanks Kathleen
A lady practising and doing things unto my heart.... My grandma was from the North East. (Alas I do not know where, I am a softy southerner) She taught me to 'economise' as a boy, and I have never forgotten. She was like Elaine. very very resourceful. You guys are going to get a big shock when you get back to that hot Portuguese sun.... .I hope....? I am ready to make my move to Portugal as soon as I can sort out my UK end. I have my Titulo de Residencia, and registered for Portuguese tax.... I have been a full time carer for my parents since my mums stroke 2 years ago, and they are in care now.... but once 'the affairs' are sorted... I hope to be on my way. Nothing is meant to be easy.
Just about to go and collect my goodies, and got an email saying my order was cancelled as they did not have enough today! 😭 And ocado didn't deliver my burgers either😭So it's boiled shoe leather tonite! Maybe try another day.....
Elaine you’re going to have to start your food vlogs again……I haven’t a clue how to do. Sourdough started nor fermenting…..sadly, I love both!!!🤣 Continue to take care lovely people xx
Hello Elaine. I have also been making sourdough. What to do if you need to use up the starter: I made a batch of sourdough yesterday. I decided not to bake this loaf, so I cut it in half and put the two parts in the freezer so I can make pizza at a later date. Your bread turned out beautiful.
Of course they’re going back……There’s need to answer that. I’ll have the Celery please Elaine, I use it to bulk up mince when cooking it, have it to dip into Hummus & home-made Dips as well as chopped & sprinkled on Salads.
The land of milk and honey on TH-cam …the lady makes loads sourdough and the patterns she cuts on them is lovely …you should look her up. Her and husband Dutch and bought a homesteading in Portugal
Strangely we have eaten together that much this time round!!!! The family all work a lot and often gets meals on duty, so they tend not to eat at home!!!!
We often get a TGTG box from Morrisons , but Aldi and the Food Company is even better. Cafe Nero is luxury ! Presently I’m not eating much so I have given them a rest for a while! We used to go to North Shields every week for Fish and Chips !
That's an excellent haul! I have the app but it only gives me suggestions for the local coffee and sandwich shops which doesn't inspire me to go out and get it.
We must have had great luck, most have been very good value. Got an M&S one once, brilliant....fish pie, steak, cheese, 🥑 and 2 packs of 2 cheesecake slices 👍
I watched a few videos then went with 50gram wholemeal flour 50ml water added to each day for a week. Then changed to plain flour and just fed it a spoonful each day. By day 10 it was really active. Hope you try it👍
@@PensionersinPortugal Sorry if I came across as rude ..I honestly just helped out the above subscriber as they were unsure where the question may be . I watch all your videos whether you are in the UK or Portugal . 😀Take care

You should try making KimChi if you like fermented food. It's a kind of spicy sourcrout.

All I can think of is, what happened to all those trees you planted?
Portugal has had a cold and wet spring, so the trees have been watered naturally and our neighbours have kept an eye on things for us
Why didn't you answer this question?
