While maddening, there's a mechanical reason why you need the new Pencil, because they moved the front-facing camera on landscape side, right where the wireless charging and magnet sits on the older iPad models, so they had to offset the charging and magnet, hence the new Pencil purchase requirement. It's the same way on the new iPad Air models, too.
I love this video. So many TH-camrs who only edit videos have no idea how to properly use iPads with an M chip, so they say some version of “It’s not a computer” or “iPadOS is holding it back”. While I would love to see Apple meaningfully add more Mac features to iPad without compromising the touch-ability of the UI, I just think people criticizing iPadOS and calling it a Netflix machine have never really tried using it. I decided to go for the 11” M2 Air because it’s such a good value with a full-fledged Mac chip, and it blows me away how fluid and powerful this little tablet is. Editing graphics is nothing for it, and I’m able to run Resident Evil Village at the native iPad resolution (upscaled with MetalFX Quality) and a mix of high/medium PC settings. WOW. There is no Android or even Windows tablet of a similar size that can do this. I also think people need to stop looking at the Mac as the better computer than the iPad. Macs are definitely better for many people, but iPads are also better. Macs can do things the iPad can’t, and iPads can do things Macs can’t. They’re different form factors, but one is not more computer than the other. And after using Macs and iPads for decades, if I had to pick one computer to keep with me, it would be an iPad. 😶
I wonder if the apps have been updated to take advantage of new hardware! Also of interest is when IOS 18 comes out and what that will do for the M4! There is a reason Apple went past M3 for the iPad when M3 only came out for Mac’s 6 months ago
The old pencil doesnt work with the new ipad because all the internals stuff got moved around so they dont support it since it won't even charge on it. (they had to do it because of the camera placement) hence the new pencil and new keyboard (magnets also got moved on the back)
Dooooood! Loved this, thank you for a solid video! What 3d printer would you recommend? Would love to start playing around with some renders and bringing them to life. Thanks in advance!
Great video and thank you for doing the render comparisons for Nomad Sculpt. I'm curious if when Apple releases the new OS update next month, it may allow apps to take advantage of the extra power in these iPad Pros. I'm also thinking it might take the apps some time to update to take advantage of the newer M4 chips with extra RAM. I heard Zbrush will be coming to the iPad Pros, so it may be able to take advantage of the M4 chips even farther. I personally do 3D work and 3D animations but I've done other types of art and media as well. I personally use my Windows laptop for most of my 3D work but I love the iPad for the portability (my Windows laptop is 17 inches and very heavy, it's at my desk most of the time, I rarely carry my laptop with me).
Thank you for sharing all your thoughts, I’m wondering all of these things too! & would love to see those apps/OS allow for more rendering speeds! It’s crazy to have such a powerful chip but not have such speed enhancement happening yet. But yes, if Zbrush makes use of it, I may switch! Although I know nomad sculpt is constantly working to get faster too so let’s see what happens!
I think the iPad M4’s might be sleeper models that’s just waiting for new OS updates to be unlocked. I’ve been on the iPad Pro 10.5 since launch and it’s time to trade up. Hopefully it will be enough for at least 6 years again.
No, it's not. Rendering is basically just... displaying it with all the lighting, shadows, volumetric lighting / post processing, vs. exporting, which is taking your files and converting it to another file format like .STL for 3D Printing. I find that with my M1, when I turn on post processing, and I an rotating my model, it does tend to lag a bit plus, it gets a bit warm and drains battery a bit faster.
I too love the 11” and it was my previous iPad size! I just fell in love with the extra space for 3D renders having a reference image take up some of the screen as well!
THIS.. THIS EXACTLY is the video I was looking for! I've been debating upgrading since I rock an M1 iPad Pro, and I really didn't know what the performance would be on it, since I predominantly use Nomad Sculpt, Valence 3D, Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, and CozyBlanket. Nomad Sculpt being the LARGER bulk of my time spent on the iPad. Thank you for helping me tamper my FOMO and help me at least weigh my expectations regarding a future purchase. We'll see what WWDC brings, with regards to any improvements on the software side of things. I know one of the big things they announced as well was Zbrush. Though considering Maxon is pushing heavily a subscription option, I will probably stick with Nomad Sculpt.
So glad that you found this video helpful! Yeah, it seems like until the operating system changes or these apps are able to actually use the GPU and CPU power fully, the M1 is a strong competitor to the M4 specifically for nomad sculpt!
This “render”-in nomad-produced on cpu-and cpu m4-like 4 seconds faster- but gpu-for renders 4 times faster- you can see it in games- and app what use gpu for render-also-looks like nomad works 4x times more smoothly-also this iPad- like old technology-new way it’s Vision Pro for artist- like Apple Music-Apple vision-portal for visual artist to distribute self-can’t wait next all new Apple glasses with more power- iPad boring-like 15 years ago-same old tv for 60 years old
After all these expenses ,again you will have to pay for the softwares..... better to go with ipad air m2...it's almost same as old ipad pro...more than enough..

Which size do you recommend for casual artists - 11 or 13 inch ?
The old pencil doesnt work with the new ipad because all the internals stuff got moved around so they dont support it since it won't even charge on it. (they had to do it because of the camera placement) hence the new pencil and new keyboard (magnets also got moved on the back)

Thank you for watching & the kind words! I’m using the AnkerMake M5C and loving it!
@@gravel.travel Of course. Subbed after this video. Thank you!!
Yoooooo!!! What a coincidence I’d come across your video! It’s Zac from CU. Glad to see you crushing!
Hey Zac!! Haha what a small world, Hope all is well!

Question: is exporting the same as rendering?

As an artist who travels a lot, I find the 11” iPad Pro the perfect size.

And its light

This hardware is perfect only if its running macos...

taking ipados too far means they've to drop mac in the long run , the policy is keep both from respectable distance
After all these expenses ,again you will have to pay for the softwares..... better to go with ipad air m2...it's almost same as old ipad pro...more than enough..
Unless you already own the software 😊
