Thanks - and good luck with your upcoming show! Would you have any suggestions for applying a toning to bw prints, without running the risk you mention of creating color casts that vary with the type of illumination?

Thanks! For tone changes that avoid color: 1. Dodge/Burn with the adjustment brush. 2. If the image was converted from color, you can use the Black and White Mix panel (switched from HSL in color). 3. Use graduated, radial or brush filters combined with the Luminance Range Mask to target a specific tone with a dodge/burn. This can be used very precisely. 4. As shown in the video, Tone Curve point selection tool to force contrast in specific areas, which can result in an odd looking curve, but gets the contrast right where I need it.

So is the print preview different from the soft proof right before going into the print dialogue? Thanks!

They look different to my eye. In Lightroom, when printing a B&W image with the Canon Pixma Pro-100, the soft proof shows that the blacks are not as black and the highlights are not as white as they appear in the normal (not soft proofing) develop module. The preview in the print module looks just like the normal (not soft proofing) develop module, with the deeper blacks and whiter highlights. I would trust the soft proofing view for getting the exposure and contrast right, and only trust the print module preview for getting the size, crop, and border right.

Hi, thanks for the video , very detailed. I’m using the canon 8750 printer and getting a slight magenta cast on b& w prints. There is no option to just set b&w in the printer menu, any suggestions on how to remove a colour cast. Thanks

This seems to be a common problem with this printer. Here is once fix I found: th-cam.com/video/FAPwgsne1BQ/w-d-xo.html
