  • Installing a Lokar American shifter floor shifter seemed easy. It turned out to be tricky and kind of annoying. Join me as I install this shifter in my 1957 Chevy truck and continue progress on my LS Swap project.

I'm glad you're enjoying. It's coming along nicely.

I have the same shifter in my 57 and I used a manual shift hump and filled the shifter hole and cut my own. It worked perfectly

Perfect. Good to know, I have a manual shift cover. I'll be tackling that soon.

Wont be long now. That shifter was a bit of a pain but its looking good. Just a thought maybe were you have that 90 degree bend in the rod linkage, brace it so it doesn't flex either way when changing gears as it looks like a fatigue point. Not being a smarty just an observation.

Thanks. I'll have a look at that. The rod I used is much better quality then the one that came with it, so it's fairly rigid. I have a feeling I'm not done with it yet.

I was thinking the same thing. Wouldn’t want it to stretch. Looks great though Ed!

Also did not like your first attempt at the linkage. The second is better but I would have gone with more of a Z bend instead of two 90 angles if clearance around the plastic box can still be achieved. Just my two cents. Good progress though.

I might add some gussets in the corners but it seems to work well so far.

Thanks. This has been very helpful. I am putting the same shifter on a 700r4 transmission in a 57 chevy pickup. It has an old Saginaw 4 speed now and the original style transmission cover hole was made larger for that transmission. I am wondering if you think a transmission cover with no hole would be the best way to go. That way I can cut a hole in it where it needs to be. Otherwise, I will have that large hole that needs to be even larger unless I want to form a patch to weld in.

I cut the big hole, sealed it with sound deadening type material with heat reflecting properties and used a large shifter boot. It seems to be fine and minimal heat and noise in the cab from that area. I hope that helps.

Yes and 10k miles on it now with no issues. Thanks for watching!
