  • Welcome to our Weekly Porch Coffee. I spent the last week resting and recovering from illness, and I am so happy to report I am feeling a lot better. So not a lot happened things week but I was able to get out and run errands and pick up some of the sale yarn I was waiting for - so a good week overall. All the time I have spent resting has me ready and excited to get back to work. Thanks for coming and having coffee with me this week!

    Having this family to be a part of and to celebrate my milestones with has been the best benefit I never expected to come out of all of this.

    My week: My laptop died, I then nearly too due to nervous breakdown (yep, no actual backup was done...), but now have a very good new one (the keyboard has colourful lights that I can adjust! I so much love this! It is now blue-green seacolours and pink-lilac on the end, makes me happy every time typing like now🤩). Stress and hormons plus weatherchange with hot temperatures and lightnings caused then three days migrane, but now everything is better, I used the energy I got back to clean, to wash clothes (and putting the fan in front of the hanging wet clothes cool temperature down very well 😉) and ordered groceries for the week. Have a lot of unpleasant things to do, but talking about is so annoying I don´t want to. Cat is on lap purring, that´s nice.
    Have a wonderful week, Claire and porchies🤗

      My No1 hack: washing clothes, hang them on a dryer in my room and place a fan in front of it. It´s like a self-build AC but uses less energy and the air is much better then. If there are no clothes to wash You can also wet a big towel and hang it there (I then place a basket under it to cover the floor). I did because my senior cats showed it was even too hot for them and they loved it. Now I do in summer every time I have to wash anyways. It´s like a chill breaze at a fountain or coast.

    7:41 That´s always "US-funny" to me, as in Germany it is absolutly normal to NOT have any AC in private homes. And in most workplaces/offices also. I think I never worked at a place with one. That´s why we often get a cold in airplanes, as we are not used to it. For maybe four, five (?) years now they sell those portable things, but as electricity is so expensive and we were teached to not use to much due to environmental costs it will probably never get a thing here.

    • @faeriesmak
      @faeriesmak หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I live in the US and we do not have AC in our house. It was built in 1883, though, and we live in a cooler climate as well. Wisconsin, along the Lake Michigan shores.

    • @katzenbekloppt_mf

      @@faeriesmak Yeah, I just read Your post. In europe it seems like it is a normal thing for most houses in the US to have one, even in the north like NY. But now I learn it´s not. Hm. Or is this comment section not presenting the average US-household? Even in old TV-serials in every flat was one build in, I never knew as a kid what these "boxes" outside could be😅 I mean, in areas like Florida or Arizona it totally makes sense, as the european people living there are not made for this heat (dad was latin american, mother north german so I grew up dad and me enjoying the few summer days full of energy outside and mother with a camping table and a chair sitting under the wet clothes in the drying cellar to do her office work like correcting tests of her pupils. Now 48 and put on weight I myself cannot deal with heat so well any more and so do senior cats or now just one senior cat)

    • @faeriesmak
      @faeriesmak หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@katzenbekloppt_mf I DO think that it is more common in the US to have AC than other places, especially in newer build homes. I also think that it depends on the area of the US because the climate here varies wildly from place to place. It also tends to be hotter in cities, so I think that having a window AC unit is more common there, especially in New York or LA.

Apparently by the end of the week we will be closer to 30°C (86°F) but I don't think it will last long. I had to weigh my risks and the guillain-barré syndrome was several years of extreme pain and weakness. I didn't want to risk having that again. Hopefully now if I get the plague again it will not be as severe.

    Good to see you're feeling better. Feeling a bit better myself but it's so slow. Going to prehab gym sessions is def helping.
    Not much to report for the wk. Bought more Daleks. Finally finished Dalek Dave's new eyeball - which is awesome. (how do people send you photo's video clips?)
    Cancer meeting at the hospital went ok and much was discussed about what the bowel tumour has been up to - which was pretty much nothing but I did learn to identify it on the scans & they confirmed it wasn't attached to my bladder (& that report was pretty much in error) which is a relief. All my options for where to proceed were gone through. I've not really processed any of that so far as - dissociation cuts in straight away these days. I def picked up a goodly dose of trauma from the liver surgery/hospital stay & I did mention that. Will try &self refer for counselling on that today as that's an option that was discussed but it means a phone call...

      The most important thing for me was and still is to accept I just cannot do "more" or "what I used to do" again and learn to listen to my body and brain as part of it when it it is getting too much. Otherwhise it just gets worse. I must confess I still struggle to accept, but am pretty sure there is no other solution. And I started telling people, even if it feels unsecure. For me it is a relief. Or that after the big meltdown I had in april after the death of my beloved feline compagnion when I was not able to talk for some days I just went on not talking to paket delivery people or others. It felt "betraying" for me at first, but I guess it might be also good for them not have to do small talk. Just a smile/friendly nod with the head and just take the things and close the door again. I don´t know if that is a thing for You as well, but I am always afraid when someone delivers something and opening the door to strangers and have to talk to them stresses me out. So now again another spoon saved. Just tiny things.
      One "luxury" I also did with very low money that is a big help on saving a lot of spoons is ordering grocery. It was always worth it for me as I really hate shopping in crowded supermarkets and then carry it all home (no car).
      Or it could help to cut long hair if washing it is exhausting. Getting new comfy clothes for at home. It depends on what bothers You the most and then try to eliminate everything possible and find ways to make adjustments to those that can´t be eliminated (like having kids for example, which I know is hard, I was a single-mum or moving out of a cheap but loud flat. Then maybe try out different noise cancelling things like earplugs or others. If possible isolate walls.)
      If there is a "special thing" bothering You and You are looking for a solution: ask - very precize- the comunity. Maybe someone had found a good one yet and is happy to share own experience. (If there is someone from Germany: where do I find a good assistant for doing phone calls, body doubling at stressful paper work, etc. some hours a month? Are there good contracts to download? That´s more complicated then I thought...)

    Happy to see you are doing better this week and getting back your routines. Jenn is such a lovely person, and I am not saying she is undeserving of her gains, but she owes some of her success to those who came before her. But isn't that our purpose? Making things easier for the next generation? Making things better for those that follow? This is why I so enjoy spending my time watching vids from you, Orion, Taylor, Jenn, and more. Everyone helps out, wants to see everyone succeed, and just make things better.
    Anywho, this last week was rough. I don't deal well with heat and two different transformers blew out in my area leaving us without power for half the day two times. One of them, from what I was told, sent shrapnel flying and deleted the top of the power pole it was on. Thankfully there were no injuries. Took the kiddos to Goodwill and Walmart to get out of the heat, but that had us surrounded by bright lights, noise, and people. But we got through it. Whelp, (slaps knees and slowly stands up) time to get back to business. Guess we will see you next Monday if not sooner.

    So glad you're feeling better!!
    I had a sort of strange week. Hard to explain a bit. But because of my social anxiety, I have let my outgoing husband take my daughter to a lot of her events. Last week some women (who do not know I'm autistic) asked him why I never interact with them much. They are nice and I usually wave or say hi but never have gotten to know them. I think they want to be friends but it's overwhelming for me right now.
    But I feel a little odd they actually mentioned it as its a being perceived thing. I'm just sort of sitting on this in thought and just taking my time feeling my way in the situation.
    Otherwise I'm so busy in other things, I am not worrying too much which is good.

      @@faeriesmak well, let me put it like this: often the only way i know it is hot is the fact i start sweating. I mean i can tell when the humidity is up more than normal by the way the air feels but it is like feeling the difference two pillows in how soft they are. I can feel heat, like when sunlight hits me i can feel the warmth in it. As long as i have water and a decent air flow, i can tolerate the effects of heat, just not sure of the upper limit. Things like this are the only reasons i have to question whether or not i truely am austistic, either way i have yet to find a crew of people that i can truely interface with on any realistic means, i differ in the fact i do not seem to have the over sensitivities that seem to be very common, unless you count the hearing shifts i get after things like when my phone rings and such.
