Best suv around , had the 6 cylinder for 8 months and upgraded to v8 carpathian edition and had zero issues! This is my 6th Land Rover vehicle and it’s been years of amazing experience !
I am on my third Land Rover and have never had a mechanical problem with any of them. I purchased my current Land Rover new 10 years ago. In such great shape will keep it for a few more.
You really are in a party of like, 5. The stories are awful, I had a brand new lr4 for a year, one year less than 23 k miles and it had coolant issues from about 3k miles and after a year and just at 23k miles it needed a new head for the block?????😮😮😮😮 yeah. You got out good I’m really happy for you but it just isn’t the normal experience.
My friend got a Sport and I got a Cayenne at the same time 4 years ago, He has half of his Sport replaced now and my Cayenne is as original as it could be. lol.
I own a 23 Defender 90 V8 and absolutely love it. I had the oil light issue intermittently , but it turned out to not be an issue. In fact it really does not need oil and if you put any in you risk overfilling it. Mine stopped giving me the notice once I got around 700 miles. I took it to Land Rover and there was nothing wrong with it and the oil level was all good. The issue just fixed itself, maybe a breaking in quirk, funny to see it happen on another V8. I previously owned a 21 G63 and I have to say I enjoy the Defender a bit more. This is my 3rd Land Rover and nothing quite drives like one. I think the 5.0 V8 might even sound a bit better than the G63, it has more character overall. The Defender is a ton of fun and a definitely in the top of all the vehicles I have owned.
Same here. The V8 has so much character, absolutely love it. Had also a Cayenne GTS, Audi SQ7 and the new Range Rover P530. But I will stick to the Defender V8.

So many negative comments on here. I wonder how many of the experts on here have owned one of these? I have a defender and my wife a Disco. I’ve owned 5 land rovers, and, with the exception of the Freelander (lr2), all are quite amazing. The defender is the best of the lot. Built like a tank, fast, great on and off road. My wife and I both love our Defender 110 First Edition. We ordered it before it came out on the market never have any problems, Land Rover always push out over the Air update. We also owned a Range Rover for years no issues
A couple of people I work with have Range Rover Sport models and both have had a few smaller issues (haven't heard about coolant or oil issues). A new vehicle needing coolant or oil so much would worry me about head gasket issues (assuming there are no puddles under it showing an exterior leak). I get that it's a status symbol and is really nice inside, but for me, I couldn't handle spending that kind of money and have such problems, especially when you can buy a $30,000 Toyota Corolla and put 500,000 kms on it with minimal problems. If I wanted a high(er) end vehicle like this, I'd get the new Lexus GX.
I have a 2012 lr4 w 162000 miles. We love it and it works for our family. Cost to own for foreign luxury cars is not for the faint of heart. We change oil and rotate tires every 5k. Great video guys.
Always stoked when you respond to my questions! The timing if that oil reading was hilarious. Great review on this. If I ever come into money I’d have to choose between this and the G wagon. Lol Cheers
Frequently, going to the service department isn’t the big problem with these vehicles. The big problem is when the service department has no idea how to fix the issues that are going on with the cars. That’s my experience anyways.
We do a decent amount of soft roading to get to remote lakes and camp sites. Any AWD or 4WD with clearance can make it. The Defender is overkill, but we love it.

Despite whatever, I would still consider a Defender, but no complaints at all about my GLE53.

Hey, I'm a follower with a '22 Defender V6. Not much wrong after owning it since mid '21. I just find that it drains the battery pretty quickly if you don't drive it for 2-3 days and if you don't lock it (the dealer says it will use up battery always searching for a remote signal). The Remote sensor is not very sensitive and sometimes doesn't sense my key fob even when I'm standing right next to the door. I HATE the seat for long distance driving because it has NO BOLSTERING whatsoever, so my thighs slide to the sides and get fatigued. I consider myself pretty lucky that those are the only issues. But if you want reliability, you have to put up with vehicles that look like they were designed by Rubbermaid or Dollarama, so I choose to enjoy my life.
For what it’s worth We are on our 3rd RR and we’ve had Zero issues!! Kudos on the great reviews and content you put out....been watching since the OG DT days! I like that you review everyday vehicles as well as the more premium and exotic ones for good measure - the Defender V8 being no exception! In terms of enthusiast cars, (CTR, ITR, M2, CT4-BW, ZL1 etc ), what would you say would be the one most likely to hold it's value, given that a lot of these vehicles are selling significantly over MRSP? Thanks!
All the comments on service - mainly from people who’ve never owned a Land Rover. It comes with a four year warranty which can be extended to ten years!! We have owned two with zero issues unlike my previous merc eclass and bmw 5 series - just saying…
My dad's '72 Bronco had manual hubs (as in, get out and turn the dials on the wheels when you wanted 4WD) and you could pull the keys out of the ignition at speed. The dash was the only metal piece on the vehicle that didn't rust out. I'd still rather have that thing today than an overpriced piece like the Defender.
Some 15 years ago in Montreal I rented for a weekend a Chrysler 300C with the V8 engine and with city and backcountry road driving, it consumed more than 20L/100km. I stopped counting the gas mileage at the gas station once I knew that it was over 20L/100kms… Sad, but true.
LR needs to put a proper off-road wheel and tire package on this thing instead of silly 20-22" rims with low-profile tires. Give me some proper 35-37" tires befitting the Defender nameplate.
I am a huge fan of the Land Rover Defender. I was even a huge fan of the very problematic last generation. They are an experience to drive and be seen in. There's just something about those vehicles that captivates my heart and sets them apart from the rest. Whether it's the Land Cruiser's unwavering reliability or the timeless appeal of the classic 4Runner, they both hold a special place in my automotive dreams. So, while this truck may be impressive, my heart yearns for the adventure and heritage that only a Toyota Land Cruiser or a vintage V8 4Runner can deliver."

Sorry to disappoint but the right hand drive version of the car has the gear shift on the right and the volume on the left of the centre console so the same issue exists on these cars in that the gear shift gets in the way of operating the touch screen.

Poseur status vehicle best leased within the warranty period. I have yet to see one off-road.
Should I buy or lease ? Thx
Nice at first junk by 3 years old!!!Its (using a liter of OIL already)? 111 thousand Bucks??? RIPOFF By a new Jeep! WE love your reviews. Cant believe how honest you are. Great people.
Sorry to disappoint but the right hand drive version of the car has the gear shift on the right and the volume on the left of the centre console so the same issue exists on these cars in that the gear shift gets in the way of operating the touch screen.
Bad design
Owning a Land Rover is like having a crazy hot wife or girlfriend. You can't wait to drive it until it does something crazy and leaves you disappointed, poor and stranded on the side of the road. 😂
Defender ❤

I swear I just bought a 2023 Toyota 4runner TRD pro, biggest peace of mind is it's never going to break or have any issues while I'm on a road trip with my Family 🫡.. and that feeling is like winning a million dollar jackpot
