    I always thought that the story of the spartan 3s was really tragic and heart wrenching, ONI takes a bunch of messed up orphans and pumps them up with chemicals that make them even more messed up and then sends them on suicide missions, look at Emile, when reach, which is second only to earth in importance, gets invaded his reaction is glee because now he has a lot of stuff to kill

      Emile was probably torturing animals as a child before the Covenant even found his homeworld. He was probably one of those kids that when the teach asked what do you want to be. He said a soldier so i can kill things for a living.
      Oh and these orphans were given a choice go roam the streets hungry and full of anger until they are old enough to join or become the next generation of Spartan like the famous Spartans on the military posters and advenge their families. Emile was probably happy to sign up to kill aliens and would have done so even if he had to wait til his 17th birthday to do so.
      Basically he was a psychopath before the augmetations. After augmentation he became a super human psychopath with power armor and a shotgun. So not a good example for how tragic the Spartan 3 program was. Oh and Emile was a member of Alpha Co. So didn't get the brain altering drugs .

    I finally got something in regards to the limit of a human punch!
    "Quoting a bike-helmet study published in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, he wrote that 235 kg (520 pounds) or 2,300 newtons of force would be needed to crush a human skull, almost twice as much force as human hands could possibly muster."

      Which is not very surprising to be honest. They are literal walking tanks with the strength to match. Honestly man, the only thing I imagine they cant punch through is another literal tank lol

Then in the scorpions cause if they have a grenade the can punch the grenade into said tank far enough the grande destroys the inside of the vehicle. Spartans just don’t mess around it seems

    how realistic are the augmentations in Halo? like are they actually possible given good enough technology

    • @RoanokeGaming
      @RoanokeGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      well its difficult to say. They mention genetic variance causing a major issue but what chemicals are being pumped in? I feel like there may be a few issues
      First: Our bones produce red blood cells and are basically living organs, if you replaced that with ceramic or another material, our red blood cells would be diminished and we would die
      Second: Retinal Inversion, thats going to put more load on the eyes and the optic nerve, could it handle it? I should think not, mainly due to how we have evolved to process the information. While the cones and the rods may be increased, our brain still has to interpret it. Maybe it could be amped up with chems but its hard to say
      Third: Muscle density. Our heart is a muscle, having the body increase density would lead to enlarging of the heart which could cause it to stop. On top of that, veins and arteries may not be able to handle the extra load required of them to feed these new muscles.
      overall, if the tech got good enough and they figured out how to negate the issues above, absolutely! It would take some serious bio-engineering however

    • @slumberingember
      @slumberingember 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Roanoke Gaming but that’s what makes the spartan program work so well. Children are naturally more flexible and adaptable. They can recover from things adults can’t. I believe the hardest barrier would be the cones and rods. The way I see it the bones aren’t replaced like I think your assuming but given a coating. I’m the spartan 3 case it’s done chemically so I believe what the bones are made out of is changed but they still serve the primary function making need blood cells they are just intact stronger now.
      Denser muscles wouldn’t be an issue either. Organs are shown to grow larger when it’s twin is gone but said organ doesn’t take up space that its twin had. I believe because the children are so young the body adapts to the fact it’s organ are bigger. Now would a human in real life adapt like that if they were a child who knows but if it’s possible a child would be the only candidate that even had a chance of pulling it off.
      The fact the brain has to interpret extra data though does pose an issue though like you suggest. While I think as a child the body could cope and lessen the strain I do think other chemicals would be needed. Remember Spartans are walking sociopaths. It’s possible some of the drugs make use of other parts of the brain to help lessen the load. Spartans don’t really feel emotion well spartan 2’s and 3’s don’t. So maybe that’s how it works?
      All in all I think it could work but I don’t think we are at that level of science yet and even if we hit the point it would only work on children and it would most definitely be a slow process that took stages.
      As in stage one strengthen the bones. Stage two denser muscles. The body isn’t magic and not even children could handle all those augmentations at once. I imagine that’s why spartan 2’s had a high death rate. All those changes at once was probably way to much to deal with those who weren’t the perfect candidate. Some spartan 2’s did survive but were crippled that was in fact a thing so maybe that’s why it was so deadly. The body just couldn’t cope.

      @@RoanokeGaming You do know that the US Military is working on genetic augmentation for military use via Crisper.
      And are working towards the exoskeleton needed.
      Granted they are making more progress on the Exoskeleton.
      Oh and if you have ever read the product list of any of the muscle building suplliments at GNC?
      Most contain testosterone boosters aka small doses of artificial HGH.
      And a lot of soldiers use this stuff . The military doesn't care if soldiers are on steroids either. So yeah they are already working on the super soldier concept and have been for decades.
      Right now there is a concept of altering soldiers fight or flight response to remove fear completely from soldier's in combat. So yeah the US governments defense research lab or DARPA is working on the concept of making the closes thing we can get to Spartans in real life.
      Just a point towards the real world application of the technology. We have some of the technology but we also have this thing called Ethics which does prevent the government's of the world employing such developments currently.
      Civilian outrage at publicly admitting such programs exist is the main reason we don't have super soldiers today. By the 2500s in halo much of the technologies of biological augmentation have become mainstream. In other words the Marines are augmented to a lesser degree ,. Civilians use chemical , cybernetic and genetic augmentation to adapt to various planets environments etc.
      So currently we have some of the tech but haven't figured out how to do it.

They would certainly give a II a run for their money, but a II can adapt and overcome. There’s been many examples of a III getting into it with a II and were always beaten.

    Do you know what kind of movement speed is required to kill/maim someone? I've made guesses and gathered sources that have proven Spartans move at around 100ms^-1 when fully in their suit.
    Considering how Spartans are around 4 times heavier than a heavyweight boxer, multiplying this with their (squared) estimated speed over them (5 times 75kph/20ms^-1), this makes them hit around 100 times harder than anyone on the planet. Later, I got a similar result when measuring that punch Jerome gave to an Elite in HW2, coming at around 100-200 kilojoules of kinetic energy.

    • @RoanokeGaming
      @RoanokeGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Depends on the hit and material present. Since they are hitting with metal, are quicker, and stronger. I imagine a punch could easily kill a person. Like when master chief punches through the face of captain keys to retrieve the codes. That's some serious math you're doing there though, how did you come up with those figures?

    • @yellowhoodie5299
      @yellowhoodie5299 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The guess? It was simpler than it sounds, I just made a rough estimate at the absolute most amount of KE that a human punch could deliver (which was really hard to find, as so much of "record breaking" punches are bollocks e.g. 48 *kilojoules* for some boxer I read). To be safe, I made it 1 kilojoule, which admittedly is a huge amount of energy.
      Since Spartans were genetically perfect before their training even began, I'm confident that this number could still stand.
      eK = .5 * m * v^2
      They're around 4 times heavier than what someone with that kind of punching power could be. So if they're 4 times heavier, they'd hit 4 times harder (This is also why some military employ 7.62x39 over 5.56, as it can utilise much of its KE into the target itself)
      Of course velocity, however, is where most of the kinetic energy is sourced from. As you may know, a subtle change in the speed of a moving car is a matter of life or death. This 5x speed figure is scaled to allowing them to hit 25 times harder. Adding in their weight to the formula allows for 100 times harder punching power.

    • @yellowhoodie5299
      @yellowhoodie5299 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry for derailing there for a bit. Still, do you have an idea what kind of velocities are needed to damage athletic muscle tissue, from sheer speed alone?

      @kallemort 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoanokeGaming Why wouldn't it produce better soldiers? The augmentations they got were the same as S2 or more advanced versions of those. The S3 candidates may not have had the same 0.0000001% genetic markers as the S2 candidates, but those were highly unrealistic standards anyway and didn't matter that much in the end. S3 training time was shorter but they had the advantage of incorporating lessons of the war against the Covenant, lessons from the S3 training program and having overall superior trainers (Kurt AND Mendez).
      Taking those factors into account they should be about equal to the S2 (disregarding combat experience, obviously) or slightly better. Most of them never got the glory of the S2's due to being sent on suicide missions and being even more black ops but at least this point it should be clear they can do everything S2's can if given the same equipment and support.
      Only situation I'd prefer a squad of S2's over S3's would be on a long duration behind enemy lines mission like which Black and Grey teams partook in. And that only applies to Gamma company due to their need of their antipsychosis medication.

      Both of them paled next to the 2's though, they were essentially seen as almost the next stage in human evolution, and were given better augmentations, abeit waaaay riskier ones.

    I do wonder though, what the result would be if the Spartan 2's had undergone the chemical augmentations similar to those for the Spartan 3's, along with their own changes. I would love a see a video speculating the results of such a program. Granted it would have a much higher fatality rate, but the soldiers produced would be interesting to say the least.

    To my knowledge, (prehalo 5) the IIIs had broader gene restrictions then the IIs because they needed more of them so after augmentation the IIs were gods among men but the IIIs were more demi gods not having such invasive and serious aug. And i though the IIs had both chemical and surgical implants and and aug, did they do any retconning? I could be wrong now.

    • @RoanokeGaming
      @RoanokeGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the IIs definitely had chemical enhancments to speed up their developement but as for chemicals during the process I am not certain, I will have to research it some more!

    • @willfrank1641
      @willfrank1641 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roanoke Gaming i just remember reading all about it. Also i forgot to mention. The IIIs had broader because they werent as elite gene wise but because they had the mental motivation from being orphaned. If most IIIs went toe to toe with any IIs naked every II would win. Unless they were marked as a III with the same genes then they got the same aug and usually armour and put in special squads (see nobel 6)

    • @justchilling704
      @justchilling704 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's horribly inaccurate genes have nothing to do with it in fact bc the III's had better training and better augmentations they'ed likely win.

      Ghosts of Onyx mentioned it the most. It had three versions, I believe. The last version LCDR Ambrose was the one he fought tooth and nail for because his last attempt before Gamma Company's activation got denied because it was "over the budget".
      Given it's nature as a "semi powered" armor, does this armor offer some degree of enhancement of strength and speed? The only things I've heard about it are it's superior to ODST armor sets and it's got a "poor man's" version of active cloak. It's also meant to be mass produced and easier to build than MJOLNIR armor.
