Giving one of these for my nephews birthday in a few days. I put on OnionOS, 25 of the best games from GBA, SNES, SEGA, PS1, and loaded it up with cartoons like Pokemon, Spongebob, Spiderman, etc. Think hes gonna love this thing.
Funny enough, it being a vertical design is a huge reason I want to get it. Not a Miyoo, but if you really want a horizontal device, I suggest looking into the Retroid Pocket 2S when it releases. $99, same size screen the Miyoo Plus has, can run more than the Miyoo can (it can do Dreamcast and N64, for instance), and it has two sticks. Though, it uses Android instead of Linux. So, to me at least (I have the Pocket 2+), the Retroid feels a lot less personal and stuff. Like, it feels more like you're emulating on an old phone with a controller attachment, as opposed to using a game console. But if you don't mind it using Android, they're really nice. And the 2S is even better than my 2+, having slightly more power, Hall Effect sticks, Analogue triggers, and even moves the D-Pad to the top left instead of the bottom left like mine is, making it more comfortable than mine.
I have both the original mini and the mini plus, and the mini plus gets way more use from me - the original is cool just because of how tiny it is, but the plus is way more practical for everyday extended use. Hope you keep making videos, enjoyed this one and just subbed 😄
This is literally the best video from this console on youtube, you showed me everything i wanna play when my MMP arrive (missed FFT only hahahahh). Thank you! =)
The device is amazing! I just dropped an upgraded speaker in mine, and it made an immediate difference. Only four games I've played that struggle on Onion OS and they are all 3D MAME; Tekken I, II, III & Virtua Fighter. (Tekken 3 runs flawlessly on PS version though)
Onion OS JUST ADDED 2 new emulators to the system. Nintendo DS and another one that does require a $15 license to play forever (I don't remember the name right now). It's a lot more impressive that a system that WASN'T DESIGNED to play these 2 extra systems in the first place is able to run a lot of games of these consoles in stable conditions!

Very nice video. My first chinese handheld was the Anbernic RG351p. Soon after I bought a Powkiddy v90, and now I use a Retroid Pocket 3+. Getting a Miyoo Mini+ is very tempting too.
I only have a Retroid Pocket 2+. And, while I enjoy it, I'm not the biggest fan of using Android for the emulation. It feels less 'personal' to me. Like, it feels like I'm just running files, on an old low-end phone, with a controller attachment. As opposed to using a game console to run games. So, I'm considering getting a Miyoo. Miyoo since the onion OS is better supported and more developed, CFW for Rg35xx is still kinda janky and doesn’t have the user base and support as the miyoo plus does coming from the mini
Do you have the ports? Their awesome, quake, doom, duke nukem 3d, shadow warrior, blood mario 64. With onion you should be able to fix that slowdown problem by changing the ps1 core. I saw a video by retro something.. talking about how he fixed castlevania ps1s similar problem

I have a minor question. Does the Miyoo Mini Plus (with or without OnionOS) support FBNeo? I believe I've seen people mention Mame 2003 Plus, and FBAlpha. But I haven't seen mention of FBNeo. I ask, because all of the Arcade games I have were gotten specifically for FBNeo, and I don't particularly wanna have to re-obtain 400-ish games, just because they're for the wrong Arcade emulator. I have both, they're each fantastic in their own way and you'll not be disappointed with either. I heard that an updated RG "might" be on the way with wifi and some tweaks. If you're leaning that way, maybe hold off.
I didn't bother using the provided sd card because it is known for being cheap and faulty. It really doesn't matter how many games are on it though because you can easily add as many as you want!
@@nickszw it's not the same, it stimulates a clock where every time you turn it on and off it skips time an hour. A poor facsimile of a real time clock.

This device seems really awesome! I love retro games, and I'm always looking for hardware to experience my favorite games on! I am curious though -- how's the set up? I've dealt with a lot of emulators in my day and it feels like there's always hiccups. Is it pretty simple getting the games you want loaded onto the device and getting them to run? Also, you briefly mentioned ROM hacks. Do those work great on the system too? I love the GBA Fire Emblems and Pokemon games, so I'd love to be able to play fan hacks of those on the go! Regardless, this was a really interesting video! Thanks for sharing this cool device!
Set up is incredibly quick and easy and there are plenty of guides on TH-cam to walk you through it! Definitely recommend installing onion os for the best experience which literally just requires you dragging and dropping some files onto your sd card! And all rom hacks work perfectly on the Miyoo mini! They play just as if you were emulating them on pc! I’ve tested a lot of the popular Pokémon rom hacks and they all work perfectly.
@@supersambams Thanks a ton for the quick reply! Seems almost too good to be true, haha I think I'm gonna pick one up! Any recommendations for good Pokemon rom hacks that you like? @@nova338 I might make a video about this soon so sit tight! I will say that pretty much every hack works on here though. no compatibility issues like there are when using flashcarts!

Hey I just have a question because I noticed you had a rom hack of Pokémon (Pokémon Gia version). How were you able to add it? I have two miyoo minis and a miyoo mini plus but I don’t know how to add rom hacks to any them. I would love to play something like Pokémon clover on these devices, but I have no idea how this stuff works. I didn’t need to faf the sd cards in order to move the rom hack game files to each device but I can’t get them to work when I add them.
You need to patch the game on your pc first and then put it on your sd card. Or find a website that has the romhacks pre patched like cdromance. Hope that helps!
This retro-handheld-affiliate-link madness on YT has to be about device fetishism... who isn't snesed out in 2023? Who really, be honest now, is excited to play a set catalog of games that only use the dpad... (not who is excited to try a new device for 10 minutes) be honest...

I have an xbox series that for all the new games, and also a switch lite, but this little things makes it more on the go. Which is something some of us grew up doing.
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Just ordered mine, really excited.
Is the Onion OS a must?
Yes, you’ll be missing out in so much without it.
Since the miyoo mini plus has Wi-Fi can onion OS be installed through Wi-Fi?
Hi, can you play Pokemon with other Miyoo users ? like connect thru wifi? Thanks
What was your experience with Armored Core Master of Arena? Are there any lags?
Just got mine about a month ago I put onion OS version 4.2 beta on it but the only thing is I have issues trying to get a bunch of PS1 Roms to work like 3xtreme or even Thrill Kill
Name the racing game at 4:08
It's Chocobo Racing.
@@mopefiend sweet thanks! And a quick update for any one reading this, I got all my PS1 Roms working 🙌 seems I just had the wrong rom files
Is Pokémon fire red, super Mario rpg and Xenogears on it??
Can you use Retroarch and enable Retroachievements on this? I’m very tempted to get one if so!
Onion OS is still in Beta for the Mini+ but I believe it's coming,
Granted it's been 4 Months it's probably already out now
Make a GBA/Vita like and add two 3DS style thumbsticks and four well placed shoulder buttons on a sleek design and OS.... Still waiting.
Question.. why not a RG35XX? Is this better? Only asking because I'm about to sink some cash into one of these or the RG35XX.
I prefer the build quality of the Miyoo mini plus
@@supersambams Is it dual card? Or single?
It only has one sd card slot if that’s what you mean! But the roms and os all operate off the one sd card!
@@supersambams Awesome! Thx for your info.
I have both, they're each fantastic in their own way and you'll not be disappointed with either. I heard that an updated RG "might" be on the way with wifi and some tweaks. If you're leaning that way, maybe hold off.
How many PS1 games come loaded? I saw another review where a guy said it only had like 20 titles!
Why should this matter? Where should be the problem to put any game you want on it?
I didn't bother using the provided sd card because it is known for being cheap and faulty. It really doesn't matter how many games are on it though because you can easily add as many as you want!
and is onion os already installed or do you have to install it yourself?
how do i get roms/emulators? how do i put that inside my mini plus?
Bro have super mario and crash bandicoot games in this ?
Does this come with the onion os installed now?
I had mine for 2 weeks and out of no where dead pixels… I’m really OCD too.
Oh no! I hope that doesn’t happen to me. Did you drop it?
@@supersambams I was extra careful, barely even used it.
For pokémon games on the GBA or any other game that relies on a real-time clock I much prefer the RG35xx.
Onion OS gives you the option to enable an internal clock on this one too.
@@nickszw it's not the same, it stimulates a clock where every time you turn it on and off it skips time an hour. A poor facsimile of a real time clock.
@@pyroyuyif you connect to WiFi it can accurately update the clock that way. Not as good as a real time clock, but better than the default
i bought one and only 49/100 games loaded wtf is mine messed up? should i return it and get another one?
Yes
4:08 game name?
Dragon Ball something or other
Chocobo Racing (PS1)
How well does this play n64 games?
rg35xx have RTC, no wifi ok but have RTC 🤯
All my GBA games have screen tearing (stock firmware)
Have to enable v sync
Took a bit of research to figure it out
The setting resets to off every time I turn it off. Haven't researched how to make it stick lol
Kind of annoying. I thought it would be set up to run right out of the box
You should really use onion OS. It takes 2 minutes to install and you won’t have to deal with issues like that ever again!
@@supersambams fiiiiiine 😭 lol
I can second onion OS and Tiny Best Set. Flawless performance.
Oh yeah I did do it last weekend. It was super easy. Way better experience 😅
I found pico 8 it's cool
can you play fan made pokemons on this ?
Yes, played Pokemon Clover on it. Just put the rom file on the desired folder in the SD card.
Can you fast forward in gba? (Pokémon lol)
Yes
Does it have Dreamcast and skies of Arcadia
It unfortunately doesn’t emulate Dreamcast. Nothing past ps1 and gba
@supersambams I just got mine and there's a version of Mario 64 loaded onto the stock os that runs impeccably 😅. Is ps1 all that it will really do?
I've seen your video about Pokemon Rom reproduction carts, but that was less about giving recommendations on ones you've played and more your first impressions
@@nova338 I might make a video about this soon so sit tight! I will say that pretty much every hack works on here though. no compatibility issues like there are when using flashcarts!
Is this a good device for Pokémon games ?
@@grandmastagrimm8773 it definitely is! Works really well for the Gen 3 and earlier Pokemon games
Let me know if they do a newer version that can play N64 and ps2 I’d buy that
Hey I just picked one up. Sorry newbie here, What’s onion os? How do you get it? Thanks
It’s a better os than the one that comes stock, most of the features stated in the video is because of onion os. Here’s a great guide you can use, I’m not sure if it’s up to date though. th-cam.com/video/4Y-EQoQaL5o/w-d-xo.html
Can it emulate n64?
Press select on the home menu when you're on the game tab to refresh your ROM list. All the games you added should be visible after that.
Because you can physically change games on it ? In all seriousness how is it a game changer ?
5:40 poor Jill
I almost re-recorded that part but I ultimately decided it was kind of funny lol
What’s the game at 1:21??
It's either Chrono Cross, or Frogger 2
thats not a slowdown lol
I made the 1000th like.
I need
Bro this is rg35xx
Hi!
Bye! 😸
Just kidding, Hi!
This retro-handheld-affiliate-link madness on YT has to be about device fetishism... who isn't snesed out in 2023? Who really, be honest now, is excited to play a set catalog of games that only use the dpad... (not who is excited to try a new device for 10 minutes) be honest...
