    It was Geoff Tate with the whispered voice (pulling away from the mic). In other songs he will be the lead singer and change by pulling mouth away from the mic and be a "back up" vocalist in the same song (briefly).
    The recorded version of this song Geoff Tate will whistle!

  • @shilohlove5498
    @shilohlove5498 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The whisper you heard that came right after the lyric "and you're reaching up with your mind, you may see the nation's eye" - whisper: (DON'T HIDE) ... "it's youuu"
    After 30+ years, I appreciate this/him more than ever... Geoff Tate was a musical prophetic. And together with Chris DeGarmo, they had a supernatural sixth sense going on... along with an unspoken knowledge AND foreknowledge of things in the spirit realm as well as biblical and prophetic prophecy. So many Queensryche fans were sometimes lost in the True meaning and message in a lot of their songs. Because they were literally singing about prophetic futures and end times events (like the microchip mind control in NM-156, , return of Messiah in Deliverance and internet takeover in this song I Will Remember (he is referring to the future where the airwaves would takeover the minds of the masses as biblically prophesied - in those last days, knowledge will increase), which we are now living over 30 years later... this song is him remembering the time when knowledge was confined, before machines stole all of our hopes and dreams. He's singing as though he is presently living in a time yet to be. And in that time, he is "remembering" that present time (before internet knowledge) The song is brilliantly complex in every way, lyrically, vocally and musically!! ... freaking masterpiece!!

  • @mvunit3
    @mvunit3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I am NOT one for the "Unplugged" gigs (Thanks "Tesla" :p), but . . . well, I was such a HUGE fan of Queensryche, but they made this another animal all together. The "Rage for Order" Tour was the 1st time seeing them, and this was my 2nd fave track on the album. So when I saw this on their "Building Empires" Documentary on "VHS", I was so happy but thought, what an unusual pick, but it seems it was MADE for it.
    But even with 2 different takes, the crowd is EATING it up (especially the girls, which is funny, it was _this_ tour for the "Empire" album, where me and my friends 1st saw hot looking women in short skirts and heels coming to QR shows in Los Angeles :P), and when the Acoustic solo comes-in, you can see Wilton and DeGarmo feeding off the audience, as DeGarmo "smiles" . . . this is a song that always gives me shivers.
    Note Ken; Guitarist Chris DeGarmo is the back-up vocalist as well, who _whispers_ "Don't hide" (he's only sung 1 QR track on the album "Hear in the Now Frontier"). Also, go listen to the _studio_ version, its Tate's "Whistling" that adds another dimension to the original (which I can't help but whistle along when the _parts_ comes in). Unfortunately he stopped doing that after the Rage for Order album (Take a listen their debut Ep and the track; "The Lady Wore Black"). You don't hear melodic whistling from Metal/Prog Metal bands.

    When knowledge was confined
    And we wonder how machines
    Can steal each other's dreams
    From points that are unseen... It's real'

You not only appreciate Geoff's amazing and distinctive qualities of his voice but shouted out Chris & Micheal's beautiful guitar rift, kudos to you. I've loved Geoff's voice since their first release in the early 80's. This song really is one of his best vocally - the way he sings the last syllable of 'remember', very clean, spot-on pitch, no vibrato at all, holds it a moment or two, then adds in that subtle vibrato to finish the note. Absolutely masterful.

    Hi Ken, I recently got interested in singing as a way to improve the control over my voice, and use it at full potential. I’m a flat out beginner and I watched lot of videos, especially bass singers, and I was wandering if your 30 minutes lesson would be appropriate to understand how to work on my voice, like a general overview, to then consider if is worth taking some more lessons at a music school here where I live (now are all close, but maybe when times get better).
    I really like your videos by the way, I discovered lots of ‘hidden’ gems I didn’t know about.

    You should check out Geoff’s replacement Todd La Torre. He’s a fantastic vocalist too!

    @5:13 it is Geoff Tate whispering "Don't Hide" - this is something he does live for this song, to mimic the studio effect. He turns his head away from the mic and whispers the phrase in between the lines. The song is lovel little ballad about spy satillites, btw.

    It's sad really that a lot of people only recognize them for Operation Mindcrime - the greatest concept album of all time (arguably next to 'The Wall')
