  • This video was shot over a one year time period during the renovation process of taking a new addition basement and turning it into a great family room. This was all DIY after the utilities were put in place by the proper installers. The build took a lot of custom built finishes to fit the exact look we were going for. The home theater was also picked out to purposely fit in the space without losing square footage. To finish the room, the bookshelf was custom made into a hidden door to access the closet and the original basement of the house.

    Excellent craftsmanship! Something to consider if you do any other basement floors - use foam board on top of the concrete basement floor before laying the LVP. I did this when I finished my basement. This helps make up for any unevenness in the concrete, deadens the sound from stomping kids and seems to keep the floor from being as cold on bare feet.

      I do wish I did a couple things differently and one thing would be to have an insulated floor. The worse part of using the room in the winter is the cold floor. Live and learn!

    Biggest thing you could do to improve your next project is take a little extra time to do random length cuts on the lvt and drywall. Drywall would add much more structural integrity and be easier to mud, and the flooring would look 10x better than having seems line up every other row. Love to see people doing diy though and working for themselves instead of hiring out, keep it up.

      I could and should have done the drywall differently, but I wanted the floor to have the pattern. Thanks for watching

    What kind of basement wall insulation would you use in southern climate? The coldest basement temp has been 52 degrees and hottest has been 72.

    • @streetriderscustoms
      @streetriderscustoms  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would use the 2" rigid foam on the cement and then do the Rockwood just like I did in the video. It's not about how hot and cold it gets, it's about keeping the room from drastic temp changes where mold and mildew will form

    Where did you learn to do this all by yourself? How much do you spend on tools? I’m a new homeowner, and there are so many projects I’d love to take on DIY. I’ve done lots of little things like changing faucets, sinks, vanity , lighting…. But nothing big. I have an unfinished basement and would to take that on slowly step by step, but I just know if it is something I’ll ever be able to accomplish on my own

    • @streetriderscustoms

      I wasn't trying to sound proof too much, just have a lot of insulation, but it turned out to work really well. With the dual 18" mini Marty's you can definitely feel bass rumble in the house but it is not overwhelming at all

    Excellent work, congratulations. Did you use any water or humidity barrier for the bare walls and floor before installing floor and insulation? Was it easy to frame with wood (I am thinking of using metal)?

    • @streetriderscustoms
      @streetriderscustoms  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The insulation with the tape is the barrier. The flooring is 100 percent waterproof so I did not do anything on the floor. Framing with the wood was easy. I thought about metal but I've always worked with wood so that's what I went with
