But the thing is that taking away encryption from a person (whilst being a democracy) isn't a democratic move. It's just as if your neighbor's spying on you and that's the worst part when unknown people can gain access to your personal live without you even knowing about it. Even if it's implemented in just 1 state but it gives away a bad influence to other democracies and it should be illegal to do such a thing. It's bad and things can get even worse with corruption soo yeah, I think you'll get all of it but if not, I don't really care on wasting my time.

THIS GUY DID 20 SECONDS RESEARCH AND MADE THIS VIDEO LOL.
      Here are the real facts:
      1. “End to End encryption is not banned in India”. These 14 apps are banned in a single state out of 33.
For a fact signal is not banned in India and many end to end messaging services. There has never been a case where the government of India has spyd on civilians. NONE.
      2. These 14 apps are in-fact found being used in the terrorist grounds (Pakistan, Jamu Kashmir and ladhak).
      3. The reason for the ban is clear. These 14 apps do not have the infrastructure to provide Indian military with information about terrorist groups, EXACTLY THE REASON WHY THEY’RE USED BY MALICIOUS INDIVIDUALS (hello? Simple logic goes over western man head)
      4. “Terrorism is not a big treat to India” says an American. What do you mean by that? Just because the threat is low compared to other countries doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. When a man from a country that “liberated (war crimes and civilian kill streak)” Iraq, Afghanistan (which it failed) it’s funny.

They banned this apps in only one state, not the whole India. Also the selection of apps seems very specific, I think Government definitely had some intel about this, a normal Indian isn't using these apps, if they really wanted to suppress anonymity(which I won't deny them not wanting to), they could have banned signal or even telegram(maybe even justifying banning telegram for piracy) And if you were an Indian, you would understand the tensions between us and our lovely neighboring states, which gives rise to terrorism. So I don't think it is bad(at-least for now)

There is no comparison between the American patriot act guised invasion which is technically actually terrorism and the problems of Jammu Kashmir, domestic terrorism is a real thing in India not like the alt right armed militias of America, we do have those too, but actual jihadists; especially in the 90s terrorism was rampant in Kashmir and our army has the unique history of actually eradicating terrorism without crossing the line of morality in any major way. I have tried to make people use Signal which only one of my friends uses.
So looking at the fact that Indians only use Whatsapp and nothing else. Banning 14 apps won't impact any normal Indians. And if they are using these messaging platforms they might be using this for malicious reasons.
As most people watching this are outsiders and indians that live in places that are not borders with hostile countries, it would be difficult to grasp the threat that I would face day to day. As an indian, this is a sad news to hear. But as you mentioned out "Terrorism is a small problem in India" is an oversight.
Truth being told, there are lots of incidents popping up every then and now, hence taking action like this makes sense and justifiable to an extent, the region of Jammu and Kashmir and some regions within India have a portion of youth who are brainwashed by radicalists to take down the government or harm people that believe in different religions and faiths, they find these modes of communication to be reliable for these activities. Not just the youth themselves, there are many cases where the terrorist who carry out the operations in the country happen to use such tools, back in 2008 during the Mumbai Terror Attack, i believe they used satellite phones to communicate with their peers as well as agents overseas.
It makes sense as to why banning apps, was the governments' solution but it sure is not a very effective one. But nonetheless, we are trying our best :)

Here people don't really care about privacy, and most people really have nothing to hide. Why do you think everyone of 1.4 billion people in India is going to be tracked when that will be really expensive. You can easily tell which section of the society really needs to be tracked.

As an Indian viewer, this news is absolutely disappointing. The terrorism problem is far severe than people from outside assume. To put it in context, just imagine if mexican cartels infiltrated Texas and started spreading religion propaganda, to polarize the general public and they are somewhat successful (The success rate is higher in our case because when India and Pakistan got independence from the Britishers people were segregated based upon their religion and this only happened in the span of roughly 30 hours, so naturally there are individuals whose family are on the other side of border, who might be more prone to these propaganda) And basically residence of J&K (Jammu & Kashmir) are discriminated due to this terrorism situation. Also, there was a recent documentary released named "The Kerala Story" based on terrorism, so basically, the patriotic engine is running on full speed, fuled by genuine patriotic emotions.
Anyways, moving on, The Technological Literacy in India is quite low, especially in politicians who pass these types of rules, who are so illerate that i doubt they would be able to diffenciate between an SMS & WhatsApp, Apps that they use regularly.
And why don't people protest who are technologically literate? Because they would be painted as traitor & anti-national, people think if you are not against certain views, you support it. & People have the mentality "If you have nothing to hide, what's the problem if you are not able to?"
But I doubt these rules will change anytime soon.
P.S. I don't usually comment on videos, but sometimes our country makes stupid decisions & the people reacting to these news just need some context to understand their decision process.
This comment is just to inform people, i don't support this decision, but I love my country.

More like imagine if your country's ruling elite started polarising their population on religious lines instead of some secret evil underground organisation because they realised people's hate translates to votes better. 99% of the terrorism problem would go away by the simple act of no longer watching television. Also no religious segregation because of partition didn't happen over the course of like 2 days, it happened over the course of at least a year or longer depending on how you view things, the violence began in 1946 (look up direct action day) not 1947, modern politics are such that you can breed animosity between two groups living together for centuries for a decade or two and just over the course of a year drive them into insanity.

There are a few sides to this. Freedom and safety are often at loggerheads (remember covid?). While I don't think any government should have the right to ban something like this because it's a slippery slope towards too much control, saying that t3rr0rism isn't a legitimate problem is naive. This is India. Not Netherlands. It has some of the most volatile and hostile borders out there. Don't pretend to know the extent of the threat we face. Also, I don't quite buy the whole democracy is at stake argument because things like this have happened in the US and Canada as well. You booted Huawei for exactly the same reason - security risk. The double standard of calling it a legitimate action when done by a western country but an "attack on democracy" when done by India is unfair.
Once again, I do not agree with the move but the assumption that it is only done for malicious intent is just that. An assumption. Finally, most popular messaging apps used by the majority like WhatsApp are still very much active and there's no talk of banning those so let's calm down a bit before jumping to conclusions. We have a strong enough judicial system if someone wants to challenge the move. Nothing is done unilaterally.
