  • This time we will look into collaboration of Home Free and Avi Caplan and their cover of Ring of Fire, popular song from Johnny Cash! This is my favorite performance from them on vocal coach reacts and I honestly love how amazing this combo is! I love when musicians come together and share their uniqueness.

    Check out Home Free's "Do You Hear What I Hear". It was arranged by Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, so it features some amazing percussion. And at one point, Tim drops several octaves in just a few seconds. Really beautiful version of the song.

    Yes there's multiple live performances of theirs that you can watch in which Tim went so low that it was shaking the camera recording it and others in which he blew out the speakers. Tim's low register is unbelievable. Avi changing to the cowboy hat at the end was a tip of the hat to Tim who actually gave him tips on how to reach his lower register. There's a lot of respect between them.

  • @darrellbeam8053
    @darrellbeam8053 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Watched a video recently that revealed that during this, Tim showed Avi techniques to go deeper. Just thought that was fun.

  • @larrywt656
    @larrywt656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I really LOVE this version. It's so obvious they're all having a great time singing the song. I know Avi and Tim are good friends, but it's so nice to see and hear two of the best bass singers in the world actually performing together. And I know this was recorded at the time when Avi was going thru a lot of personal issues that ultimately led to his departure from Pentatonix, so seeing him smiling and having fun in this video does my heart good, as I feel a real kindred spirit with him.

    Loved your reaction! This is a good one and you’re right, it’s nice to have Avi and Home Free collaborate. Peter Hollens, another ‘a cappella’ singer collaborate quite a bit. He has a couple of songs with Home Free but has several songs with Tim Foust. I think you would love those. He does Misty Mountains (from the movie the Hobbit), Sound of Silence, Greensleeves, Bridge over Troubled Waters and more. To hear great beatboxing and low notes try Do You Hear What I Hear that was arranged by the beatboxer Adam Rupp. It’s tremendous. How Great Thou Art, Auld Lang Syne, Seven Bridges Road, Country Road, Helplessly Hoping for great harmonies. You won’t be disappointed. Keep reacting!

    For a change maybe Franco Corelli from the 1960s, beautiful very dynamic and much more powerful than Pavarotti who I am also fond of.
    Nessun Dorma from Turandot will make people sit and listen. The beauty of this tenors voice and his dynamic power is unbelievable, to me he was the last of the great tenors. I think it would get many likes.
    Ps I think Tim has the warmest base voice home free are great.

    Amazing reaction Kat! To get your Tim fix on, I would suggest Misty Mountain with Peter Hollens or Hillybilly Bone. If your looking for five part harmony, I would like to suggest How Great Thou Art and their CSN cover of Helplessly Hoping both of which show Adam Rupp's singing ability. After those I would then suggest Mayday.

    Good comment about the "color" of Tim's last note. The color became more obvious when the the others came in with their respective harmonies.

    I am totally baffled by the idea that "Ring of Fire" would be somehow associated with Christmas. Bizarre. But I loved your reaction anyway.

    • @chrisd7047
      @chrisd7047 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In itself it doesn't, but she associates it with Christmas because it's a Johnny Cash song, and his songs remind her of Christmas.
      And, really, she gave herself and all of us a present. We don't need to understand it, we just need to enjoy it and the spirit with which it was given.

      Also the hat change was an homage to Johnny Cash. He wore a black cowboy hat a lot of the time.

    Nice reaction! How about about another Johnny Cash cover. Home Free does a great version of Flosom Prison Blues. The whole group is dressed like they are inmates. Knowing how you love basses. You would enjoy this video as well.

    There is a video out of Tim and Peter Hollens singing Greensleeves. Tim uses his octave range very well in that one. The balance between Tim's voice and Peters is interesting. They also do Misty Mountains together.

    I recall you mentioned in another reaction that you like deep and raspy voices. In that case I think you would like Colter Wall. "Kate McCannon" or "The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie" would be good introductions to Colter's unique tone.

    They came up with this arrangement when they were competing on Season 4 of The Sing-Off. If you haven't reacted to those performances yet, preferably with the judges' comments, you may want to consider doing that. The judges called this country, a capela, reggae.
