      Man of Constant Sorrow is a really good one if you want real country music. Covers Tim's really low voice as well as beatboxing. Another good advice if you only want low notes is Misty mountains Tim does with another artist. That is what I call low notes.

  • @DougRayPhillips

    Well, lessee...
    Home Free has been around for 20 years. Founded by Chris and Adam Rupp of Minnesota. I think the group copied the name of their dad's boat. Rob Lundquist is also from Minnesota. Other current and former members tend to be from the South.
    The group hit it big around 2013 when they won a TV singoff the year after Pentatonix won it.
    Tenor 1 is Austin Brown.
    Tenor 2 is Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses).
    Beatbox is Adam Rupp. There's live vids where he can imitate a whole drum set.
    Tenor/Baritone was Chris Rupp (cowboy hat in the vid). He resigned from the group a few years ago. Now does solo work, and works with the 7th Avenue Band with his sister Tristin and some rotating guest artists. He was replaced by Adam Chance, who is just called Chance to avoid confusion with the other Adam.
    Low bass is Tim Foust. You heard him hit a G1 at the end of this vid. In the live TV contest that they originally created this song arrangement for, he did it as an F#1.
    "How Great Thou Art" and other spirituals will show you their straightforward voices.
    They've recorded songs along with Kenny Rogers and with The Oak Ridge Boys.
    "Man of Constant Sorrow" will give you a chance to hear everyone isolated.
    "Mayday" will also give you a chance to hear isolation vocals, and there's stuff they do there that's a departure from their normal roles. (We're not supposed to give it away to new reactors. You'll have to see.)
    "Misty Mountains Cold" by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust will give you another shot at Tim's low range.
    Since you like low bass singers with wide ranges, at some point you'll also have to check out Geoff Castellucci and the group Voiceplay. It's a job requirement, not an option. :) A good start would be the cover of "Oogie Boogie's Song" for the whole group, and the cover of Paul McCartney's "Blackbird" For Geoff as a multitracked soloist. He gets down to an E1 in both of those.

    • @patheddles4004
      @patheddles4004 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's pretty much everything that I wanted to say, so thanks. :-)
      The only thing I'd add is Tim Foust's collaboration with the Hound + The Fox on "We Three Kings" - he sings a connected melody down low, rather than just "bomb" notes.

    Dear Megan, they have so much. They sang this on the show Sing Off the season after Pentatonix was on and the last note from Tim was even deeper than here. You should react to the first song of theirs that I reacted to which is the music video for Man Of Constant Sorrow. You can hear every one of them. By the way, the Beatboxer Adam Rupp has won the world championship competition 2 times. The Bass Tim Foust has a 5 octave range compared to Dimash's 7. The lead is Austin For a FUN song you should react to The Butts Remix. They also have a number of songs from their individual homes including one called Quarantine. You may have to watch that a number of times to see all of the funny things including when one coughs and the words on the screen. They also have a number of songs for Christmas time. You should react to Peter Hollens (He is an Acapella group by himself who does collaborations with others) and Home Free Amazing Grace. There are a LOT MORE but these will get you started. 🎶👱‍♀️👗👠👠💓

    Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole :) The Home Fries, as we fans of Home Free are called will be here soon. Other covers of theirs to check out are : the gospel hymn How Great thou Art, Ed Sheeran's Castle on the Hill, Blue Ain't your Color a Keith Urban song, their cover of John Denver's Country Roads is unlike anything you've ever heard before, and you'll hear Rob (big guy with glasses clearly in that one, Sawyer Brown's Some Girls Do, and my favorite cover they've done, Thomas Rhett's Die A Happy Man. it's ultra romantic. but also highly recommended - My Church, End of the Road, and a few of their originals.... Dive Bar Saints, When you walk in & Why Not ?

  • @dolasfudge705
    @dolasfudge705 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I see that many of the "Home Fries" have recommended many of Home Free's songs (they have over a hundred on TH-cam) but just for fun, you should also watch some of their live performances, especially when they go off-script or just plain old mess up. Some suggested ones are "Storytime with Tim" (especially the Whip/Nae Nae one), the "Guilty Pleasures" ones, and the "Colder Weather" one where Austin forgets the words. Most of these are "fan cams" and some are not great quality, but the humor and good time had by the group make up for most of it. There are also many collaborations with other groups/individuals by one or all of them and their wives and friends. A beautiful one is "Proud To Be An American" with the songwriter Lee Greenwood and the USAF band "The Singing Sergeants".

    Home Free bass singer Tim Foust is a close friend of Avi's. Tim can hit those low growl bass notes with ease, and he actually gave Avi some lessons on that which actually helped Avi's own range get more diverse. I always loved the visual in this video at the very end, after Tim hits that low note, where you can see a smiling Avi take off his signature beanie and replace it with the cowboy hat! Avi was soon to reach a point in his life where he would go thru a lot of personal issues that led to his eventual departure from Pentatonix, so just seeing him enjoying himself in this collaboration with his friend does my old heart good. Avi is a really decent guy who didn't deserve all the negativity he would soon have to deal with.

  • @kylefrandsen2665
    @kylefrandsen2665 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Loved the reaction. There is a cameo in the video for the Home Free original "Champaign Taste on a Beer Budget". Check out the mechanical bull at the end of the video.
    Asking who the leader is for Home Free is kind of like asking who the leader of Pentatonix is - there really isn't one. The group included brothers Adam Rupp (world class beatboxer) and Chris Rupp (who's also in this video). Chris left the group amicably and has a solo career. He was replaced by Adam Chance (who goes by "Chance" to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp). Home Free was the winner of the singing competition show "The Sing Off" the year after Pentatonix won it and launched their rise to fame. I've heard they adopted the country genre as a recommendation from the producers of that show and it's done them well but, they cover a whole lot of other genres as well. They're obviously friendly with Pentatonix as well as the band Voiceplay (who I'm sure you'll get around to as well) and there are some videos out comparing the bass singers of the 3 groups to see who can go lowest by showing clips from various performances..
    This group has a lot of fun in some of their videos (like the one mentioned above). Another of their most-loved videos is "Man of Constant Sorrow" where you can see Adam Chance. When you watch that one, just keep reminding yourself that all the sounds are made by the people. You'll hear things and say "nuh uh". After that, I'm sure you'll get a list of songs from other fans (known as "home fries").

They can sing anything from humorous, serious, pop, soul of gospel. For a contrast try comparing these three. For humor try Champagne on a Beer budget....little cameo in that onne. For serious try Helplessly Hoping originally by Crosby, Stills and Nash. For gospel try How Great Thou Art. Earlier videos have Chris Rupp with them ... Cowboy hat. He left to pursue other things and Adam Chance aka Chan joined as baritone/bass usually ball cap. Enjoy. Thanks for a great reaction. God bless and stay safe

    Tim Foust's range is usually listed as A0-A5, with rumors that he can go even lower; "Honey, I'm Good" showcases tenor Rob Lundquist (dark beard); Austin Brown was the tenor soloist in this song. Beatboxer and founding member Adam Rupp only sings very short solos but does sing harmony parts when beatboxing is inappropriate; Adam Chance joined the group after this video came out, and is listed as the baritone because he can "only" get down to A1. Chance is the lead on "Cover Me Up," and successfully proposed to his girlfriend at the end of the video.

    You have not heard Tim Faust sing low yet. He can get nearly an octave lower than he does in this song. You'll love "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Misty Mountains". Still not his lowest, but by far his best for clarity when going low. As for Avi, you should really check out his personal channel ("Avi Kaplan" is then name of his channel). Especially "Change on the Rise", not a super low song, but just very well sung. As for PTX, given it is Christmas time again, you should check out "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", Avi hits some deep rich notes and Mitch hits an ear piercing high note that is amazing.

    Welcome to Home Free! They are so talented. Try End of the Road or Blue Ain’t you Color if you want to hear Rob, (beard and glasses). Try Folsom Prison Blues, Man of Constant Sorrow to hear more of Tim (super low bass). Austin is the high tenor and has curly reddish hair, Adam is the beatboxer extraordinaire and has blondish hair. And Chris is a tenor (with the cowboy hat). Chris left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Chance who is a baritone/bass. Chance has a 4 octave range. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range. He is amazing and actually taught Avi to sing lower. They are both so good. Tim and Avi both collaborated with Peter Hollens, another ‘a cappella’ singer on different songs. Tim does Misty Mountains with Peter and it’s amazing. Avi does Black is the Color of My True Loves Hair with Peter. So beautiful. Home Free won the show Sing Off in 2013 - the year after Pentatonix won. Both are great groups. Keep reacting. Try Helplessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art.

    Shame you did this one first, it would have been nice for you to appreciate Tim's bass before you did this one but that's OK.
    You need to do Home Free Man of Constant Sorrow next. In that video you will here more of Tim Foust (the bass), Austin Brown, the high tenor who sang in Ring of Fire and you will hear Rob Lundquist
    , the other tenor and the guy in glasses that you mentioned.
    The other two members are Adam Rupp, the amazing beat boxer and the newer member to the group Adam Chance (Baritone). You will hear Chance sing when you do their "Mayday" video.
    After you do Man of Constant Sorrow, I would recommend you do "In The Blood" (cover of John Mayer) a favorite song of mine and then maybe do "Helplessly Hoping" (cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash) short but amazing harmonization.
    There are ton more and I am sure people will recommend (like "Auld Lang Syne" or their cover of Boyz II Men's "End of the Road")

    Like Pentatonix there is no real "lead" singer to these guys, though Scott kind of is with PTX, Tim (the super bass) kind of is with Home Free. The curly-haired tenor who takes a major part in this song is Austin (We all Loooove him. He's adorable--and single). He's got superb carriage, they can hear him all the way to Estonia I think. the beatboxer/sound effects technician is an alien. Home Free has a number of humorous pieces that are worth hearing but I think some of their best are "In The Blood" "Helplessly Hoping" and "Auld Lang Syne" (you know, the New Year's song).

    Rob, the guy with the glasses and beard that you wondered about does an awesome job with his version of the Boyz 2 Men classic, "End Of The Road". You can compare to the original to see who does it better! ... Guy

    Rob is the one with beard and glasses, their cover of Boys 2 Men End of the Road showcases him pretty well. Also you have to watch their cover of Man of Constant Sorrow from O Brother Where Art Thou movie. Then if you really want to be shocked and Awed by Tim Foust and his vocal range, watch their cover of Cams Mayday, then him and Peter Hollens do Misty Mountains from The Hobbit movie.

    I watched an interview with Tim Faust (Bass) who indicated he liked singing in the higher octaves, I believe he said he can play with the runs. I'm not a professional either, can't even carry a note if I had a bucket, but love acapella. The bass singers have always be my favorite. Keep it up gurl, I just found your channel two weeks ago and have enjoyed every one of your reactions, mostly due to Dimash ☺

    Asam Rupp beatboxer has won a couple of international competitions I believe- go search for his "live" drum solo vids they are friggin awsome, toThere is very little they do that is not amazing so just pick-em as you feel like- they are like Pentatonix in that regard - everything is just great. Know that you are getting hooked with these guys you can now be called a PentaFry (Pentaholic and Homefry). I really look forward to your reaction of these two groups, Andd in Voiceplay and you have The top 3 A Capella groups out there (IMHO). I won't say which one is which in ranking that's personal taste. Welcome to the Rabbit holes...

    Hi Megan. Welcome down the Home Free rabbit hole. I think you’ll find you really enjoy this group. They are amazing and funny too. The guy in the glasses is Rob Lundquist. He sings mostly Tenor Harmonies, but he does sing Lead or Co Lead. The Bass is Tim Foust. The beat boxer is Adam Rupp and in the Ring of Fire video, his brother Chris, (Who formed the group in 2000), sings harmonies. He left in 2014 to persue other projects. He was replaced by Adam Chance who sings baritone harmonies. Austin Brown is the Lead Tenor. To hear Rob singing Lead, listen/watch the groups cover of End of the Road by Boys to men. Wait until you’ve watched a few of their videos before you watch their cover of Mayday by CAM. Enjoy. Hope to see more of your reactions.

    If you want to see some of Adam's skills at beatboxing do a search for Home Free drum solo as they use it as a way to get a break during live shows and you can get an idea of how much he has improved by finding one from years ago vs one from the last year or so.

    • @jamescurfman3284
      @jamescurfman3284 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't like comparing them for 'who is better'. It's Apples to Oranges. If you LOVE country, listen to Home Free and VoicePlay. If you prefer Pop, listen to Pentatonix. None are 'better' than the other. For me, it depends on the mood I am in to figure out what I am going to listen to.

    • @stevenmurphy2445
      @stevenmurphy2445 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I sort of agree with James I don't like to compare them. My mood determines who I listen too. I think Pentatonix and Home Free are both outstanding groups, each group is made up of individual outstanding singers that blend together in an other worldly way. I really like some of the things voice play has done, but I rate them just below the other too. Its probably the type music they choose to do that I don't personally care for as much. I have kind of hated Disney songs ever since the summer I worked at one of their theme parks as a Singer.

    • @jamescurfman3284
      @jamescurfman3284 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenmurphy2445 Oh, NO! I am so sorry... It IS a Summer Job so there will always be young people to do that job. But I have also heard plenty of stories (too many to be refuted) saying that basically, Disney is the devil. Many people who used to work with or for them cannot talk about it. That fact alone speaks volumes about the atmosphere.

  • @jamiestrand4506
    @jamiestrand4506 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For Rob, you absolutely must watch End of the Road, it will make you fall in love with him! Another one of my absolute favorites is Mayday, it's one I watch over and over. Usually I'd recommend that you wait to watch that one until you are a couple videos in and know them a little better (you'll understand why). Blue Ain't Your Color is another one that really shows off all their voices, and it's a fun take on the song.
    They also have a ton that show off their fun side like Butt's Remix and All About that Bass.
    And of course, now that it is getting to the holiday season:
    Do You Hear What I Hear? is brilliantly arranged by Adam Rupp, and filmed miles from where I live in MN, and showcases all their best attributes. My absolute favorite version of this song!
    Their version of O' Holy Night is absolutely gorgeous.
    And for the fun side, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and Full of Cheer. They are both a blast!
