Applies to XX/GU onwards tho. 4U Charge Blade was very rough around the edges with some unnecessary complications like some inputs needed to be done on a specific order to get a Guard Point to come up properly like when you do the Sword into Axe morph, for example.
I like to say that Charge Blade is not hard. There's a lot to learn, yes, but 99% of it you can feel out just by using the weapon. (The other 1% is periodically charging your phials so sword mode doesn't overheat)
As the games have progressed most of the weapons have caught up to charge blade in complexity. However in 4u charge blade definitely has another level of complexity over other weapons. That’s not to say it’s harder to play. I just think there are certain things like canceling saed and guard points that the game doesn’t really teach you. I’d argue charge blade and to some extent insect glaive were what popularized TH-camrs making weapon guides. Before 4u I never watched weapon guides because I could generally figure out weapons on my own.
Impact CB is very simple (I mained CB in 4u and now in world): -hit monster -charge phial -charge shield (red, don't use yellow shield) -monster attacking you? Guard point -attack or retaliate with AED (head preferably for KO) -monster is KO or you read the monster like a book? SAED -red shield gone? Repeat from the top For Elemental CB though... Yeah... You need a pdf for the hitzone, build, and route. (Even I have one)
Never use the first elemental charge hit in axe mode. Use a regular attack followed by the special, which is the second hit of the 3 hit combo that swings around horizontally to do two explosions. It uses one phial, whereas the first hit only does one explosion but still uses a phial. You can repeat the regular + 2nd elemental hit over and over until you have a chance to deploy the slower third charged hit (3 explosions, one phial if shield isn’t charged).
Elemental Discharge 1 has one single use, though. If you down a monster without any phials, after you recharge, you can shortcut into Axe by pressing A and initiating ED1.
Charge blade the go-to in 4u for me. Extremely versatile as well as powerful. Can block and be fast, can hit hard, can stun or do status. It can do anything
as somebody who is also playing MH4U on an emulator I must say: I admire your dedication to play this on a mobile toaster. also fr pink rathian has plesioth hitboxes on that firebite it extends to your behind so you can't block it
I literally watched all the video that was available back then on how to use the charge blade properly, gotta give big props to aevanko and akantorex describing/showing how guard points should be used and to practice it on diablos charges to get the timing right, because after that I became the KO KING that punishes (almost) every attack that any monsters can dish out.
It’s simple, really: 1) Attack with sword to charge sauce 2) Apply sauce to shield/axehead 3) Use sauce attack in axe mode 4) Sauce 5) Get lost in the sauce
Charge Blade is one of my favorite weapons, and you did well in learning it honestly (also that part with the Konchu on the Khezu made me almost cough up my drink, I miss/don't miss these kinda moments lmao)
One of the most insane and secret features is the guard points. On Mh Gen they are actually shown with a shiny glimpse on the shield. Basically when attacking, some animations show the shield being in front of the hunter (at the end of 3rd x attack, at the beginning of the charged a attack, at the beginning of the animation when you transform into the axe mode, and at the end of the animation when you come back to sword and shield mode). If you take an attack on a guard point, the knock back is insanely weak, you consume less stamina, and it’s comparable to blocking using a lance or gunlance shield. If you can master guard points, you basically can abuse Charge Blade’s most OP feature.
I didn't know about the a attack guard point. Bu yeah what's insane about guard points, is that the morph guard point can be triggered after any sword attack you just have to nail the timing, meaning that you are rarely in danger really. Not sure if it's the case in this game but I think you can unleash a SAED/AED after a guard point (you know what to do boss)
@@undertaker2766 sorry I’m not familiar with the abbreviations, does SAED and AED refer to the big attacks that consume phials? I played MH4U a lot (only solo mode, so I didn’t unlock any quest after the Fatalis), and if I remember correctly, there is an animation of blocking when you use a guard point. Whether you continue to transform the Charge Blade in Axe form would depend on the power of the attack you’re blocking.
@@esoxy AED stands for amped elemental discharge, which is X+A while in axe mode, SAED stands for super amped elemental discharge, which is the same input as AED, but it only performs if your shield is charged. You can still do AED with a charged shield by holding back and pressing X during the animation.and yes you must be right about the blocking thing, I've played every mh since charge blade is out and things always change so I must have lumped things together
So here's a fun fact: the Double Swipe attack in Axe Mode has 18 and 80 MV respectively without the 1.2 Red Shield multiplier-- WITH the multiplier it's 21 and 96. Meanwhile, Greatsword's fully charged slash is roughly 115 MV. In other words, the Double Swipe on CB deals roughly the same if not MORE than Greatsword's strongest move, especially when considering Phials. The overhead slam that deals 3 explosions? 90, which boosts to 108, which is flat out stronger than Greatsword. And the Ultra burst? 2 individual hits at 100 MV EACH, with Phial Explosions afterwards. Literally the strongest weapon attack in the game.
When I played Generations on my 3ds (my first Monster Hunter game) I picked Charge Blade as my first weapon. And I main that baby for a good year. When rise came out however, I changed immediately to Greatsword. Because it felt like all the high mobility in rise made the Charge Blade hard for me to enjoy. But I still play Charge Blade in 4U and GU. Edit: never played World/Iceborne lmao
Love your content man incredible edits. Started playing Mh4u because of you :) Would love to see you play some Frontier Z (since there are private servers now) or some XX

I love the Charge -axe- blade, it can cut like a sword, it can stun like hammer, it can also make things go boom boom like a Gunlance.
😂
And also does great sword damage
was waiting for u to try this man, good thing u used it
On which device do you play mh4u

Another fine addition to the saga of Haz. :D
Just a little tip from me, I use charge blade alot lol, elemental phial charge blade are actually very very good
Actually impact phial is stronger than elemental in this game
4U's CB is so broken, it's no wonder a lot of people use it exclusively.

What a way to start this video, with Terumi's Astral Finish
of course it's fun in the game when CB can KO the monster up to 4-5 times in a single hunt.
Crazy that IG and CB were called the hot new weapons back in 4u.
