When I was in the Army, the NCO's would tell everyone (starts at 02:30) the story about the hunchback. The story was told in a different version to us. It was hard to assassinate him. Everyone thought it was impossible to do, since he had so many guards around him. There was only one place he didn't have guards and that was his bathroom. An archer snuck into the castle bathroom and waited for the hunchback to use the bathroom. Then he shot a big arrow up the king when he went to the bathroom. The moral of the story for us was, that nothing is impossible.

    • @LittleKitty22

That's very true that nothing is impossible. I have experienced things that nobody believes me. And I don't mean paranormal or weird stuff, just the things that people do to harm or kill someone.

There was actually an assassination similar to Godfrey the Hunchback's:
One of the kings of medieval Britain (I forgot his name) was at war with the Vikings at this time. So one day, the king sat down on his toilet (which was like one of those old ones where you sit on a hole, and all the waste fell down in a giant hole, like a porta potty bathroom) but it turns out that a viking was hiding out in the hole where the manure goes and the Viking stabbed him right up through the butt. So yeah.

An EMT friend of mine explained why we hear so many sirens in the mornings. He said most of it wasn't cop cars going to car accidents. He said it was from people having strokes and heart attacks on the toilet. He explained that your blood pressure is highest when you first wake up. You get out of a nice warm bed, step onto a cold floor which induces a little shock to your body. Then the first thing lots of people do is go to the bathroom. Imagine sitting there and you're kinda constipated. You're straining real hard to get things moving, your blood pressure peaks and BAM...stroke or heart attack! This is why they sometimes find people dead, sitting on a toilet.

    • @residentelect
      @residentelect 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

In the Ambulance Service (UK) we refer to patients who succumb to sudden, life threatening symptoms while defecating as _"Doing_ _An_ _Elvis"_ due to The King suffering a myocardial infraction (heart attack) whilst "sat on the throne" as a result of chronic congestive heart disease.
He'd been severely constipated for many months due in part to his (very low fibre, high saturated fat) diet and his arteries were already badly constricted with plaque. In the simplest of terms his heart gave up on him due to the accelerated rise in blood pressure as he pushed and squeezed until it couldn't take anymore.
A very painful way to go if you don't fall unconscious due to hypoxia (a lack of oxygen being delivered to the body's tissues) Unlike on TV and movies "heart attacks" can last for many hours, especially if the patient doesn't recieve any advanced cardiac care/surgical intervention within the "Golden Hour". Really not a nice way to go if you're alone and unable to call for help, as seems to have been the case with Elvis...

Ok so in some more depth (from the video by The Front):
At the time that Germany seized control of Norway, it wasn’t the rich country it is today (hadn’t discovered its underwater oil).
Many Norwegians at the time were employed in the fishing industry, and already hating the Nazis, we’re absolutely irate when they confiscated the fish and canneries they depended on.
The Nazis stole the fish as it was a quick, healthy, and portable meal for U Boat crews, which were vital to the Nazis in the war.
Thus, the Norwegians contacted the British SOE and made a very clever switch.
Canned sardines are kept in oil in the cans. The Norwegians got the Brits to switch the vegetable oil used with croton oil, a powerful laxative that smelled salty, which was good as it didn’t raise suspicion. (Sardines already smelled a bit)
Imagine getting a horrible case of the runs a mile under the water and everyone running to the bathroom and slipping and splattering the floor in poo.

On some modern recreational boats where you have the toilet with a little septic tank, it is important to make sure that the air valve is open and not closed. Because if the system is closed, there is an odorless gas that can develop and seep out of the toilet wich is very deadly.
It's been occations where it have killed families who were sleeping in the boat on summer trips. Death by toilet.

One to add to your next look into this topic: In September 1904, 32 little girls at Cincinnati's Pleasant Ridge school went into the large girls' outhouse during recess. The floor gave way, and they were dropped into the 12-foot-deep cesspit filled with 4 feet of sewage. A couple of men nearby got a ladder and rope, and 23 survived, in part by standing on the bodies of 9 who drown in the sewage.

Fun facts about U-Boat toilets, Norwegian resistance actually used oil from the Croton plants to poison the sardines that were being used as foods for the U-Boat crew, as Croton oils were basically impossible to trace back to, had no smell, but cause massive stomach ache and diarrhea upon consumption.

In the modern World, the classic toilet death is not due to the toilet, per se, but due to a sequence of events initiated by a heart attack, an MI. The sequence goes: MI, drop in cardiac output due to pump failure, reflex rerouting of all available blood flow to the brain resulting in cutting blood flow to bowel, ischemic bowel starts cramping, person runs to toiled thinking they are going to soil themselves, passes out and dies from MI on toilet.
There was a time when academic medicine attributed the death to 'straining at toilet'. While that can sometimes happen, the other scenario is more common.

I too suffer from a fear of toilets, because of their smell, their shape and the water in the toilet bowl. I try to avoid toilets whenever I can. Luckily for me, my bathroom sink is more than capable of taking care of #1 and #2 (although for the latter, I usually have to use my fingers to squeeze it down the drain - for which I use gloves ofc, duuuh 🙄). No, seriously, toilet terror is real and heavily underestimated by the general public.
