@@spectrecular9721 I actually don’t think I’d tried Godot back when I started making GB Studio (have now, love it!). UI was mostly influenced by design apps like Figma and Sketch, and the approach to making games was my based on my experiences using RPG Maker a long time ago
Some things to mention as to why this update is important. - it takes advantage of the gameboy colors RAM allowing for double the details and tile mirroring for more additional details in gameboy color. - has a new seamless option which allows the game to load new backgrounds instantly using a common tileset that can be loaded into memory. - Better math function support. - automatic color png import meaning you can import in a colored background and the system will create a set of pallets automatically for the background. - debug headers can be enabled so you can see the values in real-time as you'll testing the game. - a more organized coding UI so its easier to grab the code you want easily. - animated tiles can now be done within the basic coding menu. Theres so many things that make this engine so nice to use. Its honestly a shock how this style of game editing hasn't taken off for other retro systems.

That's really darn impressive 😮 Love how easy it makes everything. And the important thing, not a shred of AI generating in it - at least that I can tell.
And people didn't realise that Nintendo had sold a manufacturing licence of Gameboy to china, which didn't specified the max production serial........ Soooooo..........
We have hackdays at my job where you can work on anything you like so I made a 16 channel stereo tone generator thing, that can generate sine, sawtooth, white noise and triangle tones and put some Attack Sustain Delay Release wave shapers, plus some basic effects like reverb. It's like a super SID chip from the C64.
If he's into making Gameboy music he should check out Little Sound DJ or lsdj. It's a super powerful music for composing gameboy music on real hardware or on an emulator.

To edit a sprite you need to specify the image editor in the settings. For example, I set it to Aseprite, so when I click that 'Edit Image' button, Aseprite opens up with the sprite already loaded. And when I'm done with editing and save, the sprite is then updated immediately within GB studio.
@@robotmeadows That's neat. As someone who finds pros and cons in both piano roll and tracker sequencing, I wish having both and being able to switch back and forth were more common in dedicated music software. Impressive that GB Studio would beat most DAW's to that kind of thinking, when it's not even primarily a music program.
I've dabbled with 2 and 3, but I reckon this is the version I'll finally make something proper with, because it feels like just the right balance of features and constraints.
I’m the creator of GB Studio, been following this channel for a while and surprised to see the app here today! Thanks for the shout out! ❤️
Honest question: How much inspiration did Godot have on the UI? Looks just as clean

Looking forward to diving into gbs4 with my 12 year old this summer, he's always wanted to make a game and this looks so great for him!
Do you think 3D is possible for GB studios? Like tyrannosaurus tex or face ball 2000!?
Bro if you make a similar engine but just for mobile 📱 development it would be huge. I like how you can visually see the transition of scenes

This is genuinely so sick for making basic gameboy games, hope/wish we get something like this for the SNES one day if that doesnt already exist
I hope they make it mobile compatible like GDevelop…although technically we can if we install UTM on our iPhones… 🤔
AAAH MY EARS... MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!
Blud just talks over it like a boss. Actual gigachad.
this makes me very, very happy. i would definitely be interested in seeing you make a game with this.
I would love to see a video where you go over making a game in this! This engine seems super cool so I would love to learn more about it!
Best game dev channel on youtube. Always compelling content and information. Cheers mate 🍻
I wish this was available for gba too.
Me too! The channel 3DSage made a 3D game engine for the GBA and it would rock to be able to make games with the two.
I love those retro sounds and graphics.
Can wait for them to reach gba state. I wanna make some gba games.
That's really darn impressive 😮 Love how easy it makes everything. And the important thing, not a shred of AI generating in it - at least that I can tell.
A friendly reminder that GB Studio projects are natively supported by the Analogue Pocket, if anyone here happens to have such a device. :)
omg, I thought this project was abandoned!
When nintendo banning original gameboy games to be preserved, so people make their own engine to make original modern gameboy games....
And people didn't realise that Nintendo had sold a manufacturing licence of Gameboy to china, which didn't specified the max production serial........ Soooooo..........
I'm not into Nintendo stuff but I'd hope they are trying to recreate those banned games too, for the sake of preservation of course.
My sound designer is such a retro head. I showed him GB studio and loves the synth on here and loves that he can make true GB music.

I absolutely love this thing, haha
That's pretty cool especially since I was playing with pixel art in a limited Game Boy palette. What do you mean by exporting a game to Pocket?
Now, With GB Studio, You can create a Game Boy port of Super Mario Odyssey - For Real!
