At least they didn't get nerfed as horribly as the Borg did! They started out as a serious villain race, then got turned down to 1 instead of up to 11 so they could actually take on the Federation in "fair" fights.

@@Unlivingroy Well, they might just be waiting for the day when 40k is not profitable anymore. At that point they bring out the last story in the 40k timeline which goes something like this: "All Necrons have awoken and proceed to extinguish all other races, the Tyranids and Chaos in one fell swoop and then go on to take their rightful place in the universe. That is, it's sole inhabitants. The End!"

The writers of TNG created the Borg in an attempt to create the next big threat to the Federation. In these are nano Tech devices. They don't need to be injected into the blood stream for them to enter the body. The eyes, mouth, and mucous membrane perhaps even the skin provide more than enough entry points for something so small. The Borg assimilation virus is a prime example of what I mean. While the last 3 place getters were unfairly maligned, none more so than the *Daleks.*
Daleks in their later forms were able to beat the Time Lords _(well, except for this one renegade)_ and Humanity didn't stand a chance against them, even when Humanity was a interstellar civilisation.
As for lack of imagination they once stole planets from all through time and space in order to power a disintegration waveform projector that existed out of phase with time in the Medusa Cascade (a rift between all realities).
This enabled them to destroy *_ALL_* realities _[the stars are going out]_ forever, while they waited it out - don't know what theyv were going to do afterwords though.
So all the other races in this list would dissolve without even knowing how or why, even the entire 40k universe and the Warp.
It was only shear bad luck (and a little prophecy) that stopped them - seemed contrived really?
And when they get wiped out they always rebuild their species, even if one Dalek survives (and they have hidden out in the void between realities).
They are not bulky cyborgs that have trouble moving around, each Dalek is a combat spacecraft that can also time travel in emergencies.
Oh and they can create Dalek agents from other lifeforms that are the originals until activated and Dalek weaponry appears.
If your Homeworld gets obliterated you can rebuild and resettle elsewhere… Daleks actually brought their Homeworld back into existence, and made it invisible.
And they don't even need a Homeworld, they just did it cause they could.
    Now that's power.

It needed 27 planets to charge plus there are beings and factions that could do similar things without needing a giant battle station to do it

The Flood won probably because of a reason Murican Ben didn't even mention. They don't JUST incorporate their prey's intelligence. They also incorporate their DNA. This sounds a lot like Nids and Zerg, but there are two things that set them apart.
    1. See, the Nids can make themselves instantly capable of resisting any disease after being infected. The Zerg can do the same, except they only need to eat the infection. The Flood only need to touch the prey with just ONE of its spores. While the Zerg and Nids rely on psychically downloading new DNA to the hive mind which then chooses to evolve the species, with the flood each individual spore can incorporate new DNA.
So what does this look like in practice?
In a 1 on 1 on 1 hivemind-off, the Flood would already be fielding infected Nids and Zerg before their competition could think about upgrading their spawning pools, or initiating an evolution event. Moreover, before the Zerg and Nids can get into evolution mode, the Flood would have reverse engineered their psychic network, which brings us to the second thing that sets them apart.
    2. The Flood are not ONLY a supreme species in rapid genetic manipulation and intelligent infection. They are also a race capable of intellectual infection of any thinking system including artificial intelligences. The logic plague, one of the many weapons available to the Flood species is capable of infecting a Forerunner computer to cause it to go rampant (AI insane), and join the flood. What this means is that any psychic hivemind the Flood infects will begin to be infected both physically and mentally. The central mind would begin working for the flood. The Nids and Zerg would suddenly choose to evolve to become better Flood hosts, or to just become Flood.
You see, they can drive you mad by touching your mind. The Flood is like the Nids and the demons of the Warp had a baby, and it chose to be very small... Like microscopic until it suddenly begins infecting entire galaxies in a matter of months. Such as the galaxy previously controlled unopposed by that "god-like" race mentioned in this video, the Forerunner. They seem weak, but that is only an illusion. Imagine a nearly immortal Space Marine with it's chainsaw sword incorporated into it's body by a fleshy mass, leaping into a squad of Space Marines and moving even faster than Space Marines can normally move, with fully functional Space Marine armor of its own. You can't just imagine infected Halo Marines going against whatever you want to fight. You have to consider that the flood WILL find a way to kill any trooper you put against them, even if it means crashing an airliner into them, and then they will infect that corpse, improving it's biology to optimal combat efficiency and zombie endurance. Imagine the 40k world with all it's crazy and very admittedly unoptimized warfare... But optimized by a central intelligence that could probably mentally go toe to toe with anything from the Warp.
The only way to kill the flood off is by killing EVERYTHING, including you. And then you need to wait more than 100,000 years before exposing the leftover Flood to new food. Because that's how long they hibernated without food between the downfall of the Forerunner and them being unleashed again in Halo 1. And they STILL came back. They are an insanely advanced and powerful species. A biological weapon created by the precursors to the Forerunners... Yes they named the races that way.

Any given faction in 40K will have lost at least one battle to every other faction in 40K Commander Mutt, just as they will have won at least one against each other faction - the lore setting is the lore of a war gaming system after all; having any totally unbeatable faction doesn't really fit with that. With that said, if you compare the overall threat of the Orks to the overall threat of the Necrons, it is clear to see that the Necrons have far more potent and advanced technology, superior strategy and tactics, and greater military coordination despite their currently scattered and only partially reawakened civilisation. It is possible that the Silent King could reunite the vast majority of the Necrons as a species, but given the inherently fractious nature of the Orks, it is doubtful that even a figure like Ghazghul could unite more than a tiny faction of the total Ork population of the Galaxy, since he can't be everywhere at once, and the second he leaves any given star system then other warlords will immediately start looking to take control and pursue their own agenda. That is absolutely core to the Ork psyche.

    • @pappajudas9267
      @pappajudas9267 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Weve never seen Necrons lead huge offensives on the scale that are commonplace among Orks and Nids. nothing in the modern 40K compares to the forces at play during the war in heaven. We don't know what kind of damage has been done to the Necrons numbers during there slumber or how many are still left. But the few Necrons that have been encountered have been a serious threat to all that opposed them even if they lost.

Let's face it the nature of warhammer wether fantasy or 40k (age of $h1tm&r does not count) is wired so no other realm can compete. You need a warhammer force to square off with warhammer. Virus bombs, vortex wepons, warp tears, and that's the lesser races. It's really not a fair fight. As scary as the death star is Failbadon the Harmless had a planet killing ship. Like he needed one to kill a planet. The death star blasted one planet and the star wars galaxy was rocked. The necrons erased a dozen worlds before anyone noticed. Enough said.
