Hey there everyone, this is a review of a very uncommon New Generation Survival Ration - the prototype to the modern Food packet Survival General Purpose.
This Ration differs in a few ways from the FPSGP, for one, it has the Wintergreen Bar instead of Wintergreen Tablets - and it also does not have the tea mix.
I hope you folks enjoy seeing this unusual/obscure Ration, and thanks so much for watching/subscribing!

I was in the army in 1992.
We eate meat from the 60's when we was out in the field.
    Canned meat.
    It was still very good.
It was called "RSP" (reserve strid proviant) Englis translation "reserve combat raison"
But we all just called it "død mann på boks"
English translation "dead man in a can"
Just this 300-400 gr of fat meat.
    This was in Norway.

So I have to tell you about the "oatmeal bar". Honestly IMO that was THE BEST thing ever invented. We used to go on 20 mile road marches and we used to bring 3-4 of those in our cargo pockets in 1996-98 before I dont remember seeing them again. Those things would keep you full and we used to call them John Wayne Bars because you couldnt break em, they were tough and solid like The Duke. In the 101st Rakkasans, most of us infantry guys would horde things high value items in the field and later, down range. Thanks for the memories man.

He generally only opens and eats if he has 2 of the ration. As it is food I feel it is better to document and describe the food rather than trying to store them all indefinitely. Packaging will last much longer without the rotting food inside so I think it is better to consume rather than save. I’m sure some people might disagree.

The only metal packaging that holded food inside untouched was the beef stew of soviet army back from afghanistan era guess 1985 i got it from my dad (former soviet army officer) it was actually a layer of solydol on the top of tin can that keeped it untouched by air and bacteries.I guess only soviet army made metal food package survive thru years.

for a second i thought it was the wintergreen that ate through the packet. people use wintergreen oil to soften vintage rubber parts on motorcycles n stuff. it's kind of a misnomer though because the softening is actually a degrading of the plastics/rubber polymers or whatever.

      @cryptomnesiac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

yeah dude, be careful with all the oxidative stress these old plastics have been exposed to. i haven't looked into it in depth, but i know that the there are long term health concerns involved. it's worth doing some research on.

jeez yeah, i'm sorry to hear that. i myself have been dealing with health issues lately and there's nothing that can prepare you for it once you're really knee deep in the shit. i guess the best thing to do is stay informed, keep researching. cheers bud.

I wonder if those are still sitting inside an airplane or life raft pack corroding after all these years later? Or do they follow a checklist and replace them every so often?

Why does it seem the older rations (40-50's) are in better shape than the newer (80-90's) ones?
