1989 Vs 1993 US MRE Frozen For 15-20 Years Review Tuna & Noodles Double Feature
First we show a regular 1989 Tuna w Noodles MRE - but then we review the 1993 -
Yet another incredibly well preserved vintage MRE from 1993,
frozen between 15-20 (looking to be more like 20 years since
Jerry told me they were frozen in 1996!) years coming out
absolutely beautiful and fully edible and really not too bad!
The M&M's were iffy looking, but I ate them and they were
pretty darned good, honestly. I would rate it a 7/10 back
when it was fresh. Thanks Jerry for the awesome
opportunity!

Botulism does not occur because food ages. That seems to be a common misconception on these videos. Botulism naturally occurs in soil so it is highly, highly unlikely it is present in any of these processed items. Just FYI.

Interesting note on the CT factory of the clinipad corporation, the one that had the moist towelette. They closed down in April, 2000 due to contamination that dated back to 1992 and had to do recall on several items. Not sure if that towelette was part of the affected, but thought it was an interesting side note.
That towelette is self-cleaning. It's doused in alcohol.

As an Army man I can 100% confirm this. We also had something called Pork chow main, we used to call it Snot chow main. 😬
That was my go to all the time, heat up the tuna, cheese and crunch the crackers, use the tabasco and here you have tuna Casserole in the field.

I'm glad I discovered this channel because I'm learning a lot that I didn't know about stuff I've had.
Back in around 1999, my uncle gave me a bunch of MREs that, based on your videos, I think date to around 1990-92. They've never been frozen but have always been stored cool and dry. I've been taking these things camping as recently as this past summer (had "Ham Slice", which was way better than I remember it being as a kid), and the only things that ever managed to spoil over the years were the beverage powders (generally turning into a hard clump) and the Potatoes Au Gratin in that last one (which was probably still edible but pretty unpalatable). Most of them lacked FRHs, and all but one or two had the brown accessory packets (the better ones being "Accessory Packet B" because they came with the Tobasco).
Went looking for them and found that I've only got one left - Menu No. 3, Chicken Stew, with Packet B - and now I'm at a loss as to what to do with it. But I know more about it now, so that's nice. Thanks, Steve!

Excellent video my friend. The first Tuna and Noodle looked a lot like the old Omelet. The orange pound cake was gold back in the day. The Tabasco sauce worked well with this meal. Also the first cheese spread, I probably would have ate it, just to see if I would survive. From your reactions on the first meal, even Lucky would have ran.
The omelet never looked that bad.
This was my favorite back in Germany at the end of the CW. Sad to find it didn’t have the staying power of some WW2 rations.
I loved seeing the old M&M's in the MRE. Paper packaging, tan M&M's, "plain" written on the package. It's bringing back nostalgia.
I'm not sure why I love these videos Steve's are the only MRE videos I watch. But I keep watching them.

I have to say more about this (now that I've actually watched the whole thing). We had been discussing how the old MREs probably get a worse reputation than they actually deserve because, there is simply no way to review one of them in the condition that they were in when new. All we can do is "reaction" videos where we check them out to see just how spoiled and inedible they are now. Well, there WASN'T any way to do a "fair" review of them until these few frozen ones showed up! Hopefully everyone appreciates just how rare and wonderful this opportunity to take a little trip back in time really is. By comparing the frozen 1993 one to a poorly stored one from 1989 (good year, eh?) really drives the point home!
+gschultz9 Yeah, spot on(both comments you've made), I always thought that the old ones must get a bad wrap because of a plethora of reasons going from personal preference, to these things usually being once inch away from putting you in a hospital bed after years of bad storage, knocking, piercing or whatever mishap you guys come across.
It sort of got confirmed when Steve had the omelette one. He seemed to enjoy it for what it was, a meal on the go. Whilst the usual ones are yuck, an affront to even the lowest denominator on the taste scale.
Pity there's probably a very small number of people outside the military system (and probably the actual food makers, for reference purposes) that have these in storage, and of course, forward thinking individuals who decided to pack some away.
This is like a time machine and frankly every video on this topic is super important for the community.

Always appreciate the fact that even without smell-o-vision, i can get the same impact you get because of your super varied range of verbal expressions. That first tuna and noodles made me cringe. Did not help that i had one earlier either, at least mine was fresh.
Btw, after you wash your hands use some cinnamon powder to rub on your hands with a dab of olive oil. It works for me whenever i need to drive away something out of my nose.
