Ladies, Steve will go down on you no matter how it smells. But don't think for a second he won't hesitate to loudly exclaim how bad it tastes. "UGH! AH! God! It's all metallic tasting! UGH! I'm gonna try it again...... AH! Why do I do this to myself! Maaaaaan!"
And then: "Ohhh its not so bad, actually this P tastes fine! Let me take one more. I finish this quick. I wish i had more of these, i can eat P allday and everday!"
lifelessdead89 Lifeless dead? Like the mad season song? So in what way did you not turn out well, dope? Lol I’m born in 1990 and I didn’t turn out well either (dope). I used to listen to Alice In Chains and mad season and stuff all the time when I was doing that lol. I hope I guessed correctly. I can only assume dope just cuz you said you didn’t turn out well and you have a mad seasons song title In your name.
Every time Steve eats a ration it's the highest expression of his personhood and a joy to his senses, no matter how ghastly and rotten the food is. Every video we see of Steve is the greatest moment of his life. How could I ever look away?
milk chocolate doesn't last but dark, semi sweet, bittersweet and unsweetened chocolate can last decades. i opened a can of German bittersweet chocolate from world war two and it was perfect.
I think that in his own mind he knew what he was getting himself into and just wanted to push through it as quickly as possible... Rancid tuna mac... No thank you...
Botulism does not occur because food ages. That seems to be a common misconception on these videos. Botulism naturally occurs in soil so it is highly, highly unlikely it is present in any of these processed items. Just FYI.
Yes, time is indeed a factor. There is a whole article on Wikipedia. Anyone can read it. And yes, it is a risk factor with some of these cans he messes with.
The music in your reviews is always so rad, I never noticed until just now that in the credits it says you wrote it! Is there anywhere to listen to it outside of the videos? It all totally gives me the 80's/90's ambient tracks from Commando, Day of the Dead, etc vibe!
The music reminds me of the 1980's - 1990's Tom Berenger war flicks... either he was doping a scope after a 10 mile jungle creep in South America, surveilling a POW camp in South East Asia, or teaching history in a gang banging drug infested high school. "Nice!"
Wow, what an AWESOME concept for a comparison video! Great way to use the frozen gem! I hope what I did with my comparison will be useful to viewers as well. Unfortunately it will be a while before I get mine all edited together. Great job as usual Steve!
"It smells like old, expired vitamins and chemicals! Ugh! Aw, let's give this a sip.." (??!!!!!) I'm concerned. Please call me if you need medical aid!!!
Interesting note on the CT factory of the clinipad corporation, the one that had the moist towelette. They closed down in April, 2000 due to contamination that dated back to 1992 and had to do recall on several items. Not sure if that towelette was part of the affected, but thought it was an interesting side note.
My rule is to avoid anything that smells like tuna from coming into contact with my mouth. I gotta say, this rule has worked out pretty well for me in the past 😂
i love your videos . this is great!!! i really enjoy history and artifacts. keep the rations coming. your commentary is what makes it interesting to watch. makes me laugh. lets take sip, lets get this on a tray... NICE!! new subbie

Same here Steve. I love anything that sounds 80's synth movie soundtrack stuff. Sorry I have no idea what genre it is lol. That was the best way I could describe it. EDIT: Actually it just came to me. A lot of it reminds me of The terminator. So I guess I was right. 80's synth movie sountrack thingy sounds good. :P
I have to say more about this (now that I've actually watched the whole thing). We had been discussing how the old MREs probably get a worse reputation than they actually deserve because, there is simply no way to review one of them in the condition that they were in when new. All we can do is "reaction" videos where we check them out to see just how spoiled and inedible they are now. Well, there WASN'T any way to do a "fair" review of them until these few frozen ones showed up! Hopefully everyone appreciates just how rare and wonderful this opportunity to take a little trip back in time really is. By comparing the frozen 1993 one to a poorly stored one from 1989 (good year, eh?) really drives the point home!
+gschultz9 Yeah, spot on(both comments you've made), I always thought that the old ones must get a bad wrap because of a plethora of reasons going from personal preference, to these things usually being once inch away from putting you in a hospital bed after years of bad storage, knocking, piercing or whatever mishap you guys come across. It sort of got confirmed when Steve had the omelette one. He seemed to enjoy it for what it was, a meal on the go. Whilst the usual ones are yuck, an affront to even the lowest denominator on the taste scale. Pity there's probably a very small number of people outside the military system (and probably the actual food makers, for reference purposes) that have these in storage, and of course, forward thinking individuals who decided to pack some away. This is like a time machine and frankly every video on this topic is super important for the community.
+aserta I agree with everything you said there aserta. Especially the part about it being super important for the community. This really has been an incredible thing to witness, and I feel extremely honored to say that Steve shared one of these exceptionally rare examples (basically a time capsule of sorts) with me! I will try to do the topic justice with my own upcoming review.
I think this has to be about the most entertaining one you have done yet. I laughed so hard at some points I teared up. dude, never change how you do these. I'll actually go for another bite of this one...
Your enthusiasm for field rations is truly infectious. So much so that I polished off a Menu #24 meatloaf and gravy from 2005 while watching this. Not bad!
I've checked out all the other reviewers only because you linked to them and said they were good, but to be honest, you're the best reviewer out of all of them. good stuff Steve.
Excellent video my friend. The first Tuna and Noodle looked a lot like the old Omelet. The orange pound cake was gold back in the day. The Tabasco sauce worked well with this meal. Also the first cheese spread, I probably would have ate it, just to see if I would survive. From your reactions on the first meal, even Lucky would have ran.
Excellent video. Always appreciate the fact that even without smell-o-vision, i can get the same impact you get because of your super varied range of verbal expressions. That first tuna and noodles made me cringe. Did not help that i had one earlier either, at least mine was fresh. Btw, after you wash your hands use some cinnamon powder to rub on your hands with a dab of olive oil. It works for me whenever i need to drive away something out of my nose.

I work with a retired Marine (actually two in total) and he was telling me all about the rations they used to eat. Steve eats old rations for fun but my coworker (also named Steve) said they were given old C-Rations on occasion. Also, he was the guy in his unit that liked this meal (the Tuna) so everyone would trade him and he would get some good deals in return. Apparently there are a lot of brave marines that would never eat a bite of this. Makes you think, and appreciate the men and women who serve this country!
I can't watch you without my lips tuning down or up at the corners. Always amazing. Amazing you have not gotten really sick or dead. Lol.........Keep it up, I think.............."NICE!"
let's get that on a tray.. nice.. alright..I could use you once a year to test out the food in the back of my refrigerator for me. You would make it so fun.
Awesome Steve! Wow, what a great opportunity getting to have a FRESH orange pound cake! I wish they still made those things, I remember them being pretty darned good. Great idea doing a side-by-side comparison of the frozen one vs. the questionable storage one. Keep up the great work!

That was my go to all the time, heat up the tuna, cheese and crunch the crackers, use the tabasco and here you have tuna Casserole in the field.

This was my favorite back in Germany at the end of the CW. Sad to find it didn’t have the staying power of some WW2 rations.
I somehow fell into this weird TH-cam hole, and landed on this channel, and honestly...it’s something I didn’t realize I needed in my life. lol.

I watch a lot of your videos but it’s always entertaining how much energy you put into your reactions/reviews
