    Hey there, everyone! This is a relatively simple review of a very fresh 1998 LRP Chicken Ala King. This was the best generation of LRP in my opinion - back when they were packed 16 to a case, and the contents were absolutely delicious and classic!
    This video shows your older tan pouched LRP's are still most likely fresh, so don't toss 'em! They are very enjoyable Rations, and it is one of my absolute favorites.
    I'm sorry this isn't something very old and crazy, so that is why I decided to do a 1951 RCI B Unit Can review the same day so you guys can get a nice double feature night. :-)
    Thanks so much, as always everyone for your loyal support and kind words! You guys are the best!
    Hope you enjoy the review!
    -Steve

    Part of me is always worried when you taste super old rations, because no health care.
    Then I watch this and I'm like "Nah, what? 1998? Nah he'll be FINE..." Nothing compared to old mate eating something from the 1950's right?
    Then I'm like "Wait, 1998 was close to 17 years ago!"... And Then I'm like "Yeah, no biggie"..
    Talk about perspective.. :) You're one of the hardest motherfers I know on this tasting circuit, and I think
    that and your sincerity is why people love you so much.
    Well done again as usual mate, and thanks for your kind words.. :)

      People have healthcare here, dude. It just isn't paid for by the taxpayer.

    • @jackpowrie3
      @jackpowrie3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Centurion04 I mean, Steve had to crowdfund to help pay for medical bills when he got seriously sick due to an unexpired ration. So…taxpayers are paying for healthcare in this instance. Would be better if the US Govt just provided a decent standard of universal healthcare so people don’t need to rely on the kindness of strangers.

    • @Centurion04
      @Centurion04 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jackpowrie3 You're just trading the problem of "relying on strangers" for the problem of me and everyone else having to anonymously pay for all those strangers when we do not wish to, nor feel any obligation to.
      And that's just for my own actual countrymen. It's a whole different story when millions of people who are NOT my countrymen come in and feel entitled to that same handout. Aside from the morally repugnant nature of such an ask, it's totally non-viable and unsustainable anyways.
      Is the healthcare system perfect? By no means am I saying that. It's massively flawed.
      But is it as flawed as universal healthcare in places like canada, where medically assisted s**cide is now being chosen by and tacitly encouraged for those on long waiting lists?
      Because that's the current state of what I have always heard held up as the perfect example of universal healthcare.

    I was in LRSD in 1998 and I do not remember a LRP ration. We got the same ration as the regular infantry. I do however remember Chicken ala King. The hard noodles were the best for snacking on. This, version of the Chicken ala King, Ive never seen. Chicken ala King was always a huge Infantry favorite, I remember alot of us fighting over this one, well, mainly because people just didnt like the others that were available. Also, the John wayne bar (OATMEAL COOKIE BAR) and the Chocolate oatmeal cookie bar were huge too in the infantry. It kept us going while on the march. Bad part, you usually didnt crap for a day or so, so when you did, it was painful.

    You should absolutely do a side by side comparison of an old MRE to what a modern one is like if you haven't already :)

    it's cool that you give a shoutout in every video to the other TH-cam MRE tasters. Like you have no reason to at all. but that's really nice of you to always show your appreciation in every video:)

    Having Grown up in McAllen TX, and having seen these all my life, it was a sad day when it was announced that Wornick foods was closing production in McAllen due to rising fuel costs, we're quickly approaching the date where even if you get a McAllen TX MRE that was the last one off the line, that eating it might be a bad idea... I can almost smell the dry-mold on the taster's choice now.

    I have to say.. this is one of my favorite of your videos. It is two years plus some days later, and this is something I dream about. Chicken a la King is only good either freshly prepared or dehydrated like that. The other way just looks disgusting in the first place.

    When I was with 3/8,a Marine Grunt unit in 84. We would mix a pack of sugar in the coffee creamer. Roll seal the end and cook in over a fire or coals flipping to keep from burning for a minute. Let cool and you have a sugar (Ranger) cookie.

    Dude, I had a MRE back in late 2001 or early 2002 that a college buddy brought to me (came from his Marine father). I can't remember what it was, but I remember the red Taster's Choice and thinking, "When did instant coffee start looking like dryer lint?"
    It wasn't -that- extreme, but it definitely didn't look like any instant coffee I had seen before. All the same, I guess it wasn't too much for my college stomach to handle.

    I wish I could buy that kind of dehydrated stuff for a reasonable price on the commercial market so I could have quick lunches and dinners. just something simple like the ala king in a bag and other meals, if anyone has any ideas where I could find something like that let me know, much appreciated.

    I keep saying, MRE Chicken Ala King tasted good when heated, the hotter the better. This meant putting the thermopouch in a canteen of boiled or boiling water. Boiling water is best or else use a flameless ration heater. Now for dehydrated ChickenAla King, you're going to need very hot or boiled water. If you use cold water you're not going to like it. Some Tabasco sauce helps a lot. Because Chicken Ala King was palatable only when very warm or hot, it wasn't a viable long-term entree choice.

    This one was a real treat!!! It's funny, when you find a ration that is good the video is great and interesting because it lasted so long and still tastes good. When you find a rations that is not good (in terms of edibility) the video is also great and interesting but because of how crazy you are, despite smelling evil you sometimes still tastes it!!!
    All jokes aside, I would like to understand better what happens to the coffee. From what I read, most if not all coffee will have some amount of fungi, but the amount of toxins produced is too small to cause harm. After such a long time, how did the mold was able to grow inside the packaging? Is the non perfect packaging that over time and certain conditions allow some moisture inside? Anyway, very interesting as always.
    Will make sure to check Craigm94 MREinfo. Take care!!!

    Hey man! Whats up? Stumbled upon your videos and I'm enjoying them very much, despite the fact that I understand nothing about the subject. Anyway, just out of curiosity, do you eat these full meals or just taste them? In some of your videos you eat like 20, 30, 40 year old food, do you ever had some kind of health incident for eating old food like this?
