I use music to keep me going on this. I have to do it for an entire song. If you're not pretty much begging for death by the end, your song isn't long enough! Heh-heh, most of my music is 5-minute songs.
Over a year, I have been working out with weights and doing strength training. I worked on this video of yours today. I needed this esp. due to the challenge of climbing stairs after knee injuries and surgery.
Really helpful guide to how to do this exercise. I found it about a year ago, and now it’s pretty much my whole abs routine. However my initial experience with it led to a bit of pain and suffering. My abs were in a lot worse shape than I realized. This suffering did not occur until the next day, and stretched into the next afterwards. It’s very easy to overdo…. The better your form the sorer you will be. I suggest spending a week or two of doing a little as three or four reps everyday while learning your form. Don’t worry about doing your full range of hip flex, just enough to explore how the exercise work. I then focused on 2 sets of however many I did in that early week. Now I do the first set with the full 15 reps using one of the harder versions of the exercise, followed by another set using a much easier version, etc. I’ve things this method with other abs programs over the years. . The abs can generate more suffering than any other muscle group!!! - all harmless, but sore just the same. I’m 70 plus. If I were 30 years younger I would not be this cautious. But it’s worth your patience - it’s a great family of exercises and it involves lots of other muscle as well. I think it’s the best bang-for-the buck exercise I’ve ever found!
I love the way you always say get checked out by your doctor. Probably very good advice. But it presupposes that you can actually get an appointment to see a doctor!
Of course your primary care provider doesn't know much about physical therapy or sports medicine. Their job is to make sure your body is medically able to handle the workout. Such as if you have any underlying diseases. If that's ok, then you are cleared to try these maneuvers or get referred to a physical therapist who is the real expert in these things.
Thank you Will . The last two years has not been easy for me. However I am lucky I have met two Angles in this period you being one .The Doctors found it hard to accept I had a very painful back they put it down to age!!!! I had to go private to discover I had three fractured vertebrae then had a fall fractured two more vertebrae and fractured my arm. Your work ethic and care for people over 50+ is so reassuring and encouraging you don't give up . Thanks to you I am getting back to a better stronger me. BIG THANK YOU
I'm so sorry to hear about the injuries you've experienced, and I'm sorry to hear it took them so long to identify what you were dealing with! Thank you so much for your kind words, it's wonderful to know my channel has been helpful for you during this time. I'm wishing you all the best in your recovery journey ☺
Hi Will Found your channel a few weeks back and find it really helpful now I've turned 65! Have recently bought your book too and it's so easy to read and understand. One question I have is though... You seem to have lots of different exercises to be done every day so I'm not quite sure how to put them all together to get an overall daily routine which covers all aspects of the body. Do you have any videos you can point me to that has a daily "check list" of exercises to do as a routine please? Thanks for all your brilliant advice! 😊
I find that same issue when I go to physical therapy. They give you many different exercises. If I did them all in one day it would take over an hour to cover them all and for some reason they don’t give you a sequencing of exercises to follow, so I just take my favorites that I think works best for me and go with that and also change it up with some of the other exercises they gave me if I can remember them ha ha. I try to do 15 min to 30 min a day. Even 10 minutes of a couple of excercise is better than nothing.
I am excited about the video you have mencione about. I am sure it will help me as I am 71 and feeling confused about choosing the write sequence to make myself stronger and independent. Thank you so much.
I appreciate these good exercises , how you offer them for different strength levels, recognize how some of us have weaker wrists as we age , 😢and you explain the movements clearly .
Brilliant book thanks so much. Your You Tube Channel is excellent and has motivated me to look after myself more. I like the way you graduate the exercises. Also you never make me feel guilty for not being able to do a move. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for ordering my book, I'm thrilled to hear you've enjoyed it. I'm so pleased you've found my videos motivating, that's my ultimate aim. I'm wishing you a happy and healthy 2025!
I just got the hard-copy version of your book and will post a review once I get into it. I've found your videos very insightful and encouraging after having had bypass surgery a year and a half ago.
Your awesome - I have a 'progressive' massage therapist who I share your information with, as he has clients that have all of the issues you address. You help me, I am not broken - but you have helped me open up areas (along with Steve (MT)). Thank you
Hi just found your channel subbed right away !! I have A very hard time doing mountain climbers so I’m in lol I will get them done hahaha senior here ❤ wil start on the wall until I can get on the floor 🎉 going to get your book 📖
Thank you sir for the free video and the discount on your book. Im looking forward to Oct 1st as im sure you are too . . . Stay healthy, happy and safe . . .
You're great! Thank you! I preordered your book and can't wait for October 1. I had well toned abs when I used an ab machine with weights, but the gym is gone and so are signs of those muscles. I'm 72 and hoping I can still grow those and others. FYI- I work out w/ a trainer and do the exercise on the floor- he calls it "spiderman-" but for some reason, he never stressed tightening the core and maintaining proper muscle control during the reps. So maybe that's the reason I don't see growth. My butt is also gone- completely flattened, so I tried your glutes exercise on the floor. One set w/ proper form was tough. I also tried the goblet squat you demonstrated and that was too easy. I do sumo squats with a 20 lb bow flex, and lunges with 12.5 lbs each hand, but so far see nothing. Is the sumo squat equivalent to the goblet squat in effectiveness? I've been working out for 2 months, 2x a week. Sorry for so many questions!
Thank you, Will, for all your tips and different exercises to keep older people fit. I did ballet barre exercises all the time but three broken wrist accidents finished that. I am able to do many of yours, and find them very helpful.
I used to do those in the military, but really fast. The leg that I brought up I would put the foot on the floor, leaving the other leg extended and then I would switch them quite quickly. Probably the best exercise I ever did.
I love all the variations of this exercise especially the advice that they help strengthen the whole body whatever age and how fit you are. A good demonstration of how progression is key. Thanks Will...and for the added bonus muscle strength video. 👍
Unfortunately I'm unable to do any of those as I have rotator cuff issues. Thanks for sharing tho Will. I've been doing the lying down and toe taps that you showed previously.
Excellently explained. Thank you so much for this super useful exercise. Could you please also let us know how to breathe during the movements in each video . When do we inhale and when do we exhale? This would help us to coordinate our breath with the body movement. Thank you very much again for your videos. They are so beneficial.
Thank you for this exercise and the nice explanation. Couple questions though. Do we need to do any warmup/stretching before doing this exercise? Do our stomach needs to be empty while doing this?
Wow , I love your exercise videos work out it very helpful for each everyone body! What entice me watching you show us by demonstrating the movement how to do it! It really help me great thanks hun for sharing! 💙💙
Great info and easy to do exercises. Will start when I get rid of my back pain, hopefully very soon. Would like to sign up for your video but if I'm right it's only for UK residents? Anyway still following your videos which are excellent😊
Hi Will, and thanks for all of your great advice. Do you have suggestions for core exercises that don’t aggravate degenerative disease in my 62-year-old neck? All the crunches and similar lying down are a problem for me.
Hi Will, I love your videos! I'm wondering if variation #3 provides a better core workout than standing knee-ups (alternating knees up as high as possible, not leaning against a wall)? I currently do standing knee ups but will switch to #3 if it is better. Thank you!
Thank you for this exercise in building core. I have been following your exercises for quite a while. Where is the link to your complete guide to muscle building?

😮
Great tip, music makes it all the more enjoyable too!
If you're "begging for death by the end," maybe you're pushing yourself too hard. It's important to listen to your body.
😂😂
Great move for not only older people but someone who hasn’t exercised ever or for some time. Also so cute “tummy button”🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️
Absolutely!
It’s great to learn one exercise with modifications- helps to focus on progress with an effective exercise. Thanks!
Great to hear this format was beneficial!

😂
And pay the bill!
And most of the time they haven't a clue anyway. Use common sense. Will has to say that to cover himself. Understandable.

Hi there! I love standing exercises. I get lightheaded when I sit up quickly and I do have wrist arthritis.
Hello! Great to hear these will be helpful for you, I hope you can put them to good use!
