    Awesome job.
    I’m fixing to replace the floor in my 6 1/2x10 utility trailer. Your video is useful and informative. Thank you for sharing!

    Enjoyed watching this video. You remind me of my daddy with your hat and oil can❤. After watching I feel confident I’ll be able to replace my trailer boards too. Thanks, from your newest fan I’ll be back.

    Looks like a brand new trailer. Nice work. The tailgate removal can be tricky without some help. You are a excellent problem solver. A few years back I added a spring assist to help raise and lower the heavy tailgate by adding a garage door spring to the trailer. It's a real back saver. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.

      Man, that garage door spring sounds like a great idea. I don't mess with that back gate much, since all the weight of the gate is on the person letting it down. Plus, a guy has to bend in half to reach it, once it is down.
      Again, thanks for the garage door spring idea. I'll check it out and see if it is practical on my trailer. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@MemphisApplegate I have to admit that I got the idea from a setup called, Tail Gator . I needed something to make it safer for my son, he was just a little guy at the time, wanting to help me . The springs reduce most of the weight, and makes it so much safer. It's a real back saver .

      @@andyporterfield2381 I hear you, and now I'd like to make mine safer for an old man. Thanks for replying, and hope to see you next week.

    Looks great you never know what you can do until you try. Should serve you well for a long time.

      Technically, I figured I'd muddle through, but what I really struggle with on all these jobs is the logistics of the wood. Those 10 foot boards are loaded on the cart, loaded into the trailer, down-loaded from the trailer, the old boards are lugged out of the trailer, the new boards lugged into the trailer, etc, etc. If you're 25 years old it's trivial, but if you are 3x 25 years old, it's more fun. By the way, I'm not complaining at all, actually I'm relishing in the fact that I have such worries at 74 years old.

    It's nice your trailer was engineered that way. I see lots of them where the ends of the boards are trapped inside "C" channels. Some people cut welds, but I like bowing the boards better. As long as the channel isn't squashed-in any, the boards just slip in without much trouble. Some people use a jack, and others just a 2x4 on edge to get the bow. Maybe that info will help you next time you do a friend's trailer if it's 1 of that type. Nice job on your trailer.

    Thanks for the advice on using vise grips to break off the screws. I have this job coming up but my trailer is made of tube steel......I think when I remove the one bad board I'll weld on a piece of angle to the areas that the new board can bolt to (my trailer was custom order, it has extra framing members). I may thread the angle and I may (probably) just bolt to the angle.

    This is why we find boards in the middle of the road, this guy didn't secure the load or tarp it and no side panes to keep the boards inside.

    Its hard drilling metal with a big bit. I like using an 1/8 for a pilot hole then stepping up.

      Yep, that's the normal way. But I was lazy, and thought it would be easy. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    hi Memphis. What if there are already pre drilled holes from the old screws? Did you line them up or drill new holes? If so how did you line them up perfectly? Ty!

    • @MemphisApplegate
      @MemphisApplegate  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My holes were not pre drilled. If they would have been, then I would have drilled from the bottom to get a perfect fit for the bolts.

    It looks like a whole new trailer now. Should last for another 16 years at least. I have found that cheap drill bits work well until they the dull but they never resharpen well while the better drill bits do resharpen well.

    • @MemphisApplegate
      @MemphisApplegate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, but I'm so hopeless when it comes to drill bits that I can't tell the difference between good and cheap bits. Ninety-nine percent of the time I'm drilling into wood, so it's only these kinds of situations where I show my butt.
      But frankly, as I slowly watch my "youth" drain away, the hardest part of these kinds of projects is moving the heavy wood around. Or lifting the tailgate, or anything laying on the ground.
      I have one of those Wizz-bang diamond sharpeners, but I normally just sharpen by eye on the grinding wheel. Perhaps we have discovered my problem. However, I did manage 40 3/8's holes, so all is not lost.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.
