GORKHA is a small district in the hilly region of Nepal and the name GURKHA (also Gorkhali) was given to the then army of Nepal which was in the phase of its unification campaign started by the late king Prithivinarayan Shah of Gorkha. It's territory was extended from Tista in the east to the Kaganda in the west (upto sutlej river). However, the act of nepal was not in the favor of the EAST-INDIA company ruling over India which was also extending it's territory through the colonisation of small states in order to make a huge empire( which is now India , Bangladesh and Pakistan as different countries ) . So it decided to go for a war which is known as Anglo-Nepal war where only 650 Nepalese warriors with their traditional knife called "KHUKURI" fought bravely against the well armed British in the different historical places like Nalapani, Kalapani, and so on. The bravery of GURKHAs is mentioned in several historical books and is even carved in several monuments by the British Government in the different places of present day's India itself where the great heroes had shown their bravery against the same British. And this is probably the only case in the world where the enemy itself is praising the bravery of its rival. Though Nepal didn't get defeated in the war it was compelled to sign a treaty called SUGAULI treaty with the then EAST-INDIA company and lost it's maximum territory which is still now under India ,though it has been said that all the treaties done with the EAST-INDIA company has been dismissed. It was mentioned in the same SUGAULI treaty about the recruitment of GURKHAs(nepalese army) in the British army to maintain the sound relationship between the two countries. Later, after the independence of India, again an agreement was made among the three countries UK-Nepal🇳🇵-India and the GURKHAs became the part of even Indian army. But of the Indians think that GURKHAs are Indian oriented which is not true at all. Moreover, it is not the GURKHA language it's Nepali. GURKHAs are known all over the world because of their bravery and loyalty. There is a saying in Nepali "KAYER HUNU VANDA MARNU BESS" which means -- it's better to die than to backoff. So I'm very much proud to say that I am born as Nepali and GURKHA is my blood. Jaya mahakali, aayo GORKHALI!!

Gorakhas are there for fighting in hilly areas because small size has advantages in hilly areas...
Awesome Documentary.. who ever made this..? I have too tried once in 2005 but my bad luck at final stage I failed in medical because that time I just got cured from Jaundice. but no matter.. Akash Mitra Roy, not all Gorkhalis are from Nepal, they are from India too because the land of the Indian Gorkhas called Sikkim is now Indian State and Bangal has absorbed Darjeeling Dooars region long ago which actually belongs to Sikkim. These regions should and one day will reunify to rename it the Bharatiya Gorkhaland. I love 11 GR. I started my civilian service in PAO 11 GR in March 1961, when Lt col HS Chauhan was Comdt and Maj Bhagirath Sharma was 2 ic , Maj Gogia SRO. Interestingly, I met Capt Subhash Kashyap of Charlie Coy at Clement Town in1961, and again after a long gap, as LAO Army Delhi Cantt when he was Maj Gen GOC Delhi .Then, again in 1980 at Darjeeling.

Gorakhas are there for fighting in hilly areas because small size has advantages in hilly areas...

Akash Mitra Roy, not all Gorkhalis are from Nepal, they are from India too because the land of the Indian Gorkhas called Sikkim is now Indian State and Bangal has absorbed Darjeeling Dooars region long ago which actually belongs to Sikkim. These regions should and one day will reunify to rename it the Bharatiya Gorkhaland. The big question is, when will the top politicians of India begin to be honest human beings rather than being dictators upon Gorkhali population ?
