In a comedy movie it's always the men who are shown as careless, lazy and source of humor. It is just how comedy is. Even the comedy movies where men cheat, they are the butt of jokes and in the end they are corrected by their perfect wives. Don't you think that is unfair too? How about a comedy movie where women are the butt of jokes for a change? Why aren't u women asking for equality there?
Guys! Listen. People stray for various reasons. Some cheat because they can and they seek "diversity" actively. Thus the comedy moves. Some cheat because their emotional needs were not being met - one partner gives lesser time to another, they no longer have anything in common, you do not connect, one of them changed the other could not, etc. For instance if the wife spends too much time with kids with no time for husbands, the husband would feel left out. At this point he may feel emotionally nurtured by another female which would eventually lead to straying. Not saying that cheating is fine forgivable under the scenario but I understand. Thus the emotional angle in movies. Kabhi alvida na kehna handles emotional side of both men and women.
We are social animals looking for a connect. Bollywood has made a mockery of physical connection. And dramatized where someone just wanted some to love and to belong. DIFFERNECE PEOPLE!

The cheating thing is so true. A man having 4 wives portrayed as kis kisko pyar karu, a comedy movie and a woman married to 5 brothers portrayed as matrubhumi a serious social issue.🙄
Your examples are wrong. Maatrubhumi wasn't just about Woman marrying 5 Brothers. It was basically about Female Foeticide & Female Infanticide. The movie showed a Dystopian future where there are no Women and only Men. The Situation is so dire that one Woman gets married to 5 Brothers who barring the Youngest; all mistreat her. Even their father Sleeps with her.
There are dozens of female centric love stories where a woman is involved with her ex boyfriend and current husband and manipulate both of them by jumping from one relationship to other and yet people haven't criticize those, never heard of twilight or Bollywood film (by famous so called Feminists icon tapsee Pannu) like manmarziyan?

In reference to the first film you mentioned, I have seen this film called Lajja starring Manisha Koirala, Madhuri, Rekha and a great ensemble cast. In that too Manisha's character is stuck in an abusive marriage and the husband (played by Jackie Shroff) has many affairs and a certain point attempt to murder her. She escapes from him fearing the future of her child. Now here's the deal. The film was a women empowerment story and it condemns violence against women, dowry, infidelity and caste system. However the end ruined everything for me. Manisha's character goes back to her abusive husband (not to forget who once tried to kill her) because he is a changed man after listening to her women empowerment speech in the climax. That itself ruined the whole purpose of the film for me.

In retrospect, all those "no. 1" comedy movies were actually number two movies.
Male infidelity vs female infidelity comparison is actually true. Our movies in almost all Indian languages were narrated from male perspective with male fantasies and male psychology. So male infidelity is is made funny or even glorified in movies because it doesn't hurt the male ego and even makes many people's prejudice against women and sexual frustrations work to support such scenes. But any case of female infidelity or even a small element of female sexual fantasy will hurt the male ego . This is why female infidelity is showcased with so much grief and drama.
How did husband cheating became funny in Bollywood was my question always. Thanks for making me realise that the other side is truly a drama genre. Very very pertinent question 👍

The cheating thing that you mentioned is 100% true. This is double standard between the men and women's infidelity. I have asked this question many times. Why in Bollywood movies, they always showcasing the men cheating his wife and portrayed the scene as a comedy while the women cheating her husband and portrayed the scene as a drama. Like in every Bollywood movies, they also always objectifying women where they are playing wives on screen. They are always giving excuses to the husbands and begging them to forgives her and women always feels guilty many times. When it comes to cheating on screen, it is a serious issue for women and funny issue for men. This is not fair. This has to be stopped.

Now look it in this way: Movies that show men cheating, at the end men are criticized for cheating and when women cheat it is like "USKI MAJBOORI THI, BECHARI ABLA".
Movies that show wife-beating is always serious and in the end men are always condemned for beating but movies that show husband battering are considered funny.
Masti movie was not showing infedility as a comedy, but a full movie showing the possible and emotional negative repurcussions of doing infedility, presented with jokes, but at climax, it was not presented as a comic scene. It tried to convey why infedility is bad and never should be a thought as it is wrong with your spouse/partner. (what I feel, rest movies were did not show the realization scenes/climax on a serious note)
