That Maine Maple is simply one of the best - truly, with any kind of grain ... and I also appreciate a bowl with a little meat on its bones ... the way it feels in your hands - says a lot. Nice bowl🙃
Thanks Peggy - another lovely example of your artistry and your commentary is very welcome. My wood shavings go to a local bee keeper - she tells me they are much better as fuel for the smoker than the purpose made pellets which keep going out.
I save small amounts in Ziplock bags for packing pieces to ship to friends and family. Some I give to sis-in-law for fire starting. The bulk my wife uses for composting, etc. Pretty much same as you. Nice video!
hi Peggy,Ivac up all mine and when bag gets full I put in burn barrel and it smolders away in a day, lots of shaving, have two big vacs, very nice bowl, good work thanks foe sharing
I use shavings in the flower beds It can be used as fire starter. A coffee can. 75 full and a bit of diesel or even baby oil works well. I have to ask, are you by any chance a Pink Floyd fan. I love the bowl and your narrative. Peace ✌️ and love baby. Child of the 60s.
I compost also. Thanks for the discount codes, gotta hit up Total boat. Simplicity is good. (Just used some Starbond to repair some wildlife carvings by Dr. Bernard Carr, a noted carver. His family asked for my help).
Good evening, Peggy. Wonderful video. I enjoyed watching the shavings come off and the bowl take shape. My shavings are shoveled into a wheelbarrow and given back to the land.
I think the shape of the finished bowl really compliments the plainness of the wood, good choice on both. It works great and I like it as much as you do. Thanks.
The bowl has a simple but wonderful grain pattern. Very nice turning. Excellent choice in the bowl and simplicity. Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to!!
Enjoy your videos. I use most of my voluminous shaving pile for compost in the garden. My dirt is so soft, and grows anything! About the CA in the cracks, I noticed you didn;t show the whole sanding process. Usually you have to take a layer off otherwise if you sand off the stain, you will get a depression. Good job doing some editing. Because of you , I am going to try my luck with Epoxy and dyes.
I use my shavings for the winter Peggy for wood burning stove for heat and to Insulation around my orange trees . I purchased a vacuum inverter for my revo 1836 laguna wood lath witch I haven’t tried it yet .I’m out of town as of now can’t wait to see how it works. If you use this device can you give me ur input on it Peggy ? Thanks for the great videos u sharing with us all on u tube 👍. Be safe, work safe, stay safe and keep spinning great bowls .
I agree, sometimes the simple bowls that I turn are my favorite ones. As far as the shavings go, my wife uses them in making fire starters with wax. I keep some around to help with the drying process. But for the most part I put them in the compost pile. I'm still looking for some creative way of using them... Great bowl Peggy. Take care 👍👍✌️
Lovely bowl Peggy, like you I do not turn thin walled bowls as I think the thicker ones are more stable! That one looks like it would be great filled with popcorn to watch a favorite movie!, Well done and thanks! Cheers Al
Nice job, PF!! Simplicity in wood turning is some times the best way to go; particularly when wood does not offer much in colors. I like bowls with some meat to them as opposed to thin wall turning. I tend to make the inside larger than the outside when I try to turn a thin wall bowl.
Nicely shaped bowl. Thanks for the product discounts, just ordered some more Acks paste using your discount code. 🙂 Most of my shavings fall straight into a large box strategically placed beneath the lathe then every few weeks it gets dumped back into our woods & turned into the ground. We have been turning a lot of plain Jane sycamore lately. Like Maple very plain so to enhance we usually apply pecan or cherry or gunstock stain. Gives the bowl some nice color.
I can’t remember what it is called but their is a tool that you use for carving out a bowl. Then you don’t have as much shavings and it allows for you to have a second bowl or more. Now after all of that do you have on of the tools?
A very nice bowl Peggy. I have found that people love the fancy bowls, but buy the more basic ones most often. Like you, I don’t turn my bowls thin. I know that you turn a lot of Maple, but have you ever turned Black Limbs? I give most of my shaving to a friend that puts them in her chicken yard.
That Maine Maple is simply one of the best - truly, with any kind of grain ... and I also appreciate a bowl with a little meat on its bones ... the way it feels in your hands - says a lot. Nice bowl🙃
Thanks, Liz! 👍🏻✌️😎
Gotta love Maple. Nice Bowl Peggy.
Yes! Thank you!
Your work is always done well and the best
part of your presentation is that you explain what you're doing. Beautiful Bowl!!! 🧐🌲👍
thank you!
Gorgeous bowl...not plain at all. Maple is such an awesome wood to turn!
Agreed on the maple!
Beautiful bowl. The chatoyance is beautiful.
Thanks!
Just finished an Oregon maple bowl.
About the same size but half the wall thickness. Purely ornamental.
Just gotta love that maple wood.
Very cool! Thanks!
Great chatoyance on this one! I've got a metal garbage can in my shop for filings and chips. When it gets full I dump it onto my burn pile.
Nice!
Thanks Peggy - another lovely example of your artistry and your commentary is very welcome. My wood shavings go to a local bee keeper - she tells me they are much better as fuel for the smoker than the purpose made pellets which keep going out.
Interesting! Very cool 😎
A very pretty bowl Peggy.
Thanks, Jack!

Thanks, Jane!
in the winter i burn shavings in my shop wood stove or compost in the summer nice job, thanks,BM, aka, woodbutcher
Thanks 😊
love the plain and simple, I also don't go for the thinnest wall, functionality is always good.
Exactly! 😎
Very nice basic bowl. Will make a great salad bowl. Nicely done.
Now I’m hungry…for salad 🥗
Good looking bowl, Peggy.
Thanks, Brad!
We use the shavings to continue making a natural path into our nature preserve trails behind our house.
Nice!
Great bowl! Be safe, be cool! Beach, NC
Thanks 😊
Awesome bowl Peggy excellent job. Peace out
😎✌️
Nice one I liked the grain on the inside.
Thanks for watching 😎
Might want to apply sanding sealer first. Then CA glue and filler to the crack. May help minimize the CA stain. Great video!
Good point
Looks great 👍
✌️
I give mine to a neighbor that has cows, pigs, donkeys, and chickens, they use them for bedding and to cover feeding and wet areas.
Very cool…I’m sure the animals appreciate it! 🐄
Exactly. I always keep a bag for myself as a fire starter. The rest I give to my neighbor for her compost barrel.
Love your work!
Thanks, Kevin. Much appreciated
Like you, I like a simple, thicker walled bowl. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your work.
Thanks for watching ✌️
...nice bowl...and nice work...and nice shirt...great taste all around!!!
✌️😎
lovely bowl very nice grain
Thanks 😊
Very nice bowl,, I use my shavings to start fires out in the pit an I also put around my trees
Good use of ‘em 😎
I really like your videos because you explain what you are doing. A lot of people just do it without any explanation. Good work.
Glad you like them!
Nice bowl, Peggy. I see some tiger stripes in the grain. That will be a great salad bowl. No shavings here. I'm not a woodturner.
Bill
Thanks for watching
Good job, my shavings go to a friend for garden compost. I too like a thicker bowl, long lasting and functional.
👍🏻✌️
I totally agree with you Peggy on this bowl. There is just something quite beautiful about it. Amazing job! 💜
Thanks, Tracey!! 😎✌️

Thanks, Greg. Yes, I do like Pink Floyd.
Simple beauty. I catch my shavings in 5 gallon buckets and take most of them to the garden.
Great for gardens!!
Gotta love that happy smile, all my shavings and saw dust goes to a friend's chook house, the chooks Act like kids at a Lolli scramble
😎👍
Sometimes simple is beautiful. This is one of them. As always great job. 💜
Thanks, Jack! ✌️
Gotta love maple, like the shape. I dump my shavings in the wooded area behind my home. The squirrels like it for nesting material.
Very cool!
A friend uses them for wild duck box bedding and compost piles
Cool! 😎

Thanks for sharing!!
The bottom has some very interesting figure top isn't bad either like the little brown spot.
Put some shavings are my daughter's tree.
Cool. ✌️
Super cool
Thanks 😊

My wood shavings go under the electric fence wire that is around the garden to keep down the weeds
Cool. ✌️

Thanks. I don’t use a vacuum…have t tried that yet.
Nice turning Peggy. Always enoy your commentary too. I use my shavings, except walnut, in my garden and around my fruit trees. Thanks!
Cool, thanks!
Great bowl. Liked and Subbed!
Yay!!! Thanks!
If the wood is freshly cut and unspalted, I put the shaving in a lawn bag, and use them or give them to friends for smoking and grilling.
😎👍🏻
Great turning. 👍 Maple is a beautiful wood. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice bowl ….. I like the thicker walls so that it can actually be used! Thank you for sharing your skills and wonderful attitude with us 🤠
Thanks, Randy!
Nice piece. Love the roundness of that bowl. Looks super functional
I think it is too. ✌️
Very pretty bowl! Simplicity wins this time!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful bowl. Very simple but elegant. Thank you for sharing. Peace out
Thanks, Karl!
Nice work, i use shavings for wet spill clean up, burnishing grain of the object being turned before finishing resin work.
Nice! ✌️

Sycamore- I’ve not turned that yet. Is it nice to turn?
Less is always more. Elegance in simplicity. My turnings either go to the compost pile or mulch.
😎✌️
love it good job
Thanks!
Peggy is the paste food safe
Yes, it is! Thanks for watching.

No. It’s a bowl coring tool.

I know that you turn a lot of Maple, but have you ever turned Black Limbs?
I give most of my shaving to a friend that puts them in her chicken yard.
No I have not tried black limba, what’s it like?
@@PFWoodturning It’s a little softer than maple and cuts very smoothly and sands to a nice luster. Black Limba is one of my favorite woods to turn.
where can I find a curved tool rest for a Harbor Freight wood lathe. I have checked eBay, Facebook market. Do you have any suggestions?
I’m not sure, Clay. If I find a link I’ll let you know. But they might not make them for the HF brand- not sure.
Nice, very nice. What were the final dimensions? Since u do like it more than other items you have turned is this a keeper?
Can’t recall the final dimensions. I don’t usually keep my work.
I haven't seen any recent videos, everything okay? I miss you!
I’m back today!!!
super
Thanks
what kind of tree
Maple
Very nice bowl Peggy. Not every turned piece has to be super pretty, there's a lot to be said about plain, utilitarian pieces as well.
Thanks so much 😊
Ok. Now I want you to write a detective story where the main character is a hard-boiled private detective named “Chuck Jawz”.
Lol. Go for it!!! 👍🏻
Give my shavings to a friend for horse 🐎 bedding.
Nice!
👏
✌️
How come you don’t core out the piece and make two bowls.
👍👍👍👍👍
