If you see an unusual color scheme that isn't yellow, it was probably selected a long time ago I've never heard the "official" story, but from what I have heard, White was chosen for visibility as black was by a very large margin the most popular color for automobiles at the time. The gold stripes reflect the gold pinstriping seen on early trucks

It just all depends on the department itself a lot of departments have where they have blue and red and then just red again it just depends on the agency and the state laws
