Absolutely love and impressed by the flexibility and team work. Capt. Pickford giving an excellent presentation... opps. Has to respond with tower to a fire... NO PROBLEM. Jame Vasquez (Paramedic Firefighter) steps right in, picks up and completes the presentation PLUS takes us to the brush fire. Great to see the equipment in use. Thanks again to all. BRAVO ZULU!
Good luck. It's super hard to get into the good fire districts. Hiring season you'll be competing against several thousand candidates for 1-2 slots per district on average. There is a reason the pay is comparatively low for fire/ems. The supply of people willing to do the job who can pass CPAT far outweighs the demand. Don't let that be a deterrent though. Be willing to move to a new community or another state or work private fire/ems.
I enjoy watching your Videos because I was a volunteer fireman for St.Helens Oregon for seventeen years and I can't believe how things have changed since I was a volunteer. Back in 1984. Miss those days.
Probably one of the most interesting videos yet! I can see where almost every fire department could benefit from this type of equipment and the "porta-pond", especially in areas where no hydrants are available or great distances from the fire! Great job, guys!
That was really cool to see how the Tender actually operates and how versatile it can be too refilling and fighting fire at the same time. It is good that there are so many pieces of equipment available to deal with a variety of different types of fires. These videos are probably of real value to those seeking out information about what it is like to be a fire fighter.
Love the videos, my towns fire department is building a new career fire department next to the old one just down the road from where I live so I’m excited to see it finished and if they’ll get any new vehicles since the ones there are quite old now
Great video thank you guys. Did have one question. Noticed how are 34 crew was putting on blue jumpsuits is that an additional piece of their turnout gear?
Hey man I see you a Roblox fire fighter too try first responders coastal heat it’s a good game and tons of game passes and no I’m not trying to get people to play it
Yeah, the apparatus can vary by quite a bit from rural to big city fire fighting. When I moved from the 2k souls town I learned to be a firefighter in to a quarter-million city, I constantly was like: "One tender? How do you run shuttle?" or "Three rescues? When are you ever going to need more than one simultaneously?" :D
that happens all the time when we fill our tankers to. Its hard to tell usually what we do is watch the indicator light once the top light starts to blink we starting slowly closing the hydrant but most of the time the water over flows most fire engines and tankers have over flow valves on them. Most of our town does not have hydrants we have only 21 pressurized hyrants in town. Our tankers tend to go mutal aid often to other towns we have a large mutal aid agreement
Theres usually a tank fill valve that you can open and close on the pump panel that would make shutting down the 5 inch intake faster then spinning the hydrant closed. Although im not sure if the back inlet on this tender is just a straight waterway and is always open much like the back of ladder trucks.
@South Metro Fire Rescue PIO Great job at producing another informative video on your special apparatus. Also, one question for you Eric. In regards to the Garmin GPS screen in Tender 34: does that screen auto load the address of the incident from the MDT when the call is dropped, or does the crew manually enter it before responding?
A question about tires. Are firefighters trained to change the front tires in case of an emergency. Like what happens if at a rural brush fire the front tire blows? Is this unit then out of commission or is there some procedure to fix it and get the unit back into service ASAP? Thank you for all the hard work that you all do to protect us.
Thanks for confirmation. I looked everywhere and could not see it. Wikipedia, your home TH-cam channel page, the website and just could not find it. Thanks so much again!
So how long would a truck like this stay in service? I assume anywhere around 10 years due to the call volume, I know my department's tankers tend to be replaced around 15+ years due to lack of use since they tend to have a more urban interface and the lack of need for them.
With how many vehicle vs building calls, technical rescues, and working fires, and with how big your district is, is there plans to permanently staff rescue 34, and get new heavy rescue sense South Metro is an ISO class 1 department?
Do you have to worry about debris getting in the porta-pond? Imagine if you put it under the wrong tree in fall it might clog the pumps, unless they're just waaay too powerful for that.
South Metro has 6 tenders that all carry 3000 gallons of water. Tender 40, 45, and 46 are similar in design and specification to Tender 34. Tender 39 and 41 are older tenders that might have some differences in appearance and pump capacity, for example they both carry their portable tanks on the driver side and Tender 39 has a 500 gpm pump.
Thats basically what happens when you fill the tank to capacity. Thats how you tell when to stop. It just purges water so it doesnt overfill and cause pressure a pressure buildup.
You also want the tank to be full so there isn't any weight shift when going around a corner. A less than full tank can cause the truck to tip over when the water shifts.
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thank you for your response, and I thank you for what you do for your community, state and for our country. Stay safe out there, and peace.
@@perfectpickle176 South Metro does not currently have any tillers. Station 32 was built to potentially house one in the future, but all their current aerials are on the newer side and therefore do not need replacement yet.
And instead of having a tender and ladder, why don’t you just get a engine tanker, like a 6 man pierce velocity cab but with that 3000 gallons of water, that’s what our department does
The tenders responds to rural operations where there is little to no hydrants in the area for a fire. Engines or trucks (Towers/ladders) respond to medical calls with the medics if needed
Tender 45 and Tender 46 (twins) were the tenders seen in the Fire Academy video. They are a little bit older 2015 models, but have similar specifications as Tender 34.
Thanks all of y’all who are saving lives. Especially during this time. Thanks.
Finally, a tender fleet Friday.
Probably one of the coolest fleet Friday's yet!
Oddly enough the video about the tender rollover was what led me to this channel. Glad this tender video was about a much happier subject!
This has to be the best Fleet Fridays yet! The truck gets toned and then the tender! Way too cool!

Congrats PIOs on finally getting some Fleet Friday responses and an actual bonafide tender response to an incident. Color me shocked.
How to tell if a tender is full: it overflows.
atleast on this one there a gage on the valve and in the cab so they know when to stop
LOL my station has a tanker and u can’t tell

Does South Metro still have a SWAT medic program? Are those firefighters still deputized by the Arapahoe County Sheriff? Thanks!

Some cities have field mechanics but with SMFR I don’t think they do and if they do they did not list it.
South Metro does have mobile fleet trucks, they are dispatched to extended incidents or when requested.

Did some flagging by station 17 in Castle Pines the other week
The next one's got to be the collapse unit and the mobile command unit I mean I think those are the only ones that you guys have left?!!

There are several tankers 30-40 years old still flying the skies so 15 years is nothing for a tanker

What happened towards the end when all the water started overflowing on the truck? Was that an accident? What happens when you overfill the tank?
Thats basically what happens when you fill the tank to capacity. Thats how you tell when to stop. It just purges water so it doesnt overfill and cause pressure a pressure buildup.

that is when you know your rig is full.

What happens if the tender is needed but the medic and tower are both out at calls?
That's a nice tanker
Could the tender fill from a lake or body of water if it was closer than a hydrant?
Do American firefighters do running training?
Go watch there fire academy form 19-2. I believe it is. It’s kind of boring after a while but at the beginning it’s interesting.
Will dive 16 be featured? Also does south metro have two hazmat teams?
SMFR has two HAZMAT units but I may be wrong as I am looking at their fact sheets from last year
triple pull GO GET EM BROTHERS
I'd assume all firefighters have the special license to drive these big rigs?

Tender 34 is Pierce Job # 32692.
does South metro have a Recuperation and care unit #FDNYRACUNIT
for firefighters after a big fire
Why were the tower crews putting on blue jumpsuits never seen them respond in that before
They do that to protect themselves from people who have or possibly have covid instead of wearing a blue plastic apron
Question for Eric What is south metro SAF18 and south metro MIDT32 on pulse point
So tender is kinda like a tanker?
And instead of having a tender and ladder, why don’t you just get a engine tanker, like a 6 man pierce velocity cab but with that 3000 gallons of water, that’s what our department does
thanks to pio Eric
So the ambulance and the tender respond to medical calls???
The tenders responds to rural operations where there is little to no hydrants in the area for a fire. Engines or trucks (Towers/ladders) respond to medical calls with the medics if needed
Does south metro regonize advanced EMTs??
Can you do a fleet Friday on Med 1?

Is there a volunteer system in South metro or are there only paid fire fighters?
