If the Prince did kill the dragon and then took its head or tried to parade it around, I honestly feel he would have had an immediate revolt and subsequent execution. You dont kill your kingdoms one and only national treasure and guardian and expect the people to cheer your name... especially when the people would know the Prince didn't actually do anything to do it himself. Meanwhile, if he did that and the people found out the dragon had an egg, and they likely would since the guards and everyone involved knew. Then again, the prince would have a revolt on his hands. He was literally walking on the line of suicide to try and stroke his ego and hope his name was recorded in the books when he hasn't even been made king yet. And he is still very young. If anything, Saika saved his dumb ass by pointing out how stupid he is, and it is likely why the elf left him continue on with the insults as its something the prince needed to be told that not really many others could tell him without facing some kind of judgement. That and his attempts at doing this to impress Efa only would make things worse for him. The dude literally needed to take a chill pill before he overheated and died. Both the insult and rejection at the same time should serve as a lesson that if he wants to be remembered, it is not as a murderer and baby killer while also freeing a slave only to re-enslave her. Bro came off kind at first, and likely is, but his sense of judgment is all kinds of fucked up because he wants to try and make a name for himself where he is honestly too young and stupid to think rationally about the fact he has years of his life to find other things or solve other situations that can be just as impactful as his mothers.

If anything, he can at least write a book now that confirms the thought to be legends of the old queen and how she raised a dragon, as well as the reason the dragon would have strange behavior would be because of a egg/baby. Instead of treating it with hostility, they can resolve it by simply building trust. Handing said book down through his future lineages to be something he can be remembered for instead of being remembered shortly as the prince that had their dragon killed.
